Segmented Any% Discussion

I just did a few tests and found out that constant Deku blasts make a significant difference to your magic. You travel at the same speed, but your magic takes longer to deplete. Did everyone know this?

TSA used it a lot in his run, though I doubted it did anything. That's surprisingly good to know, maybe I won't have to use Soup so often <_<

Yeah lol. That was the first thing I tested, because it took me a while to actually do it. That'd be a pain at the of the trial segment.

I was just playing through Wind Waker. I was collecting the shards and found a time-saver. The problem is I have no idea how to do it. Y'know when you pull up a chest from underwater and the music goes "DUN DUH DUN DUH DUH DUN"... I sincerely hope someone understands that. Whatever. I skipped that bit and went straight to opening the chest, so it saves like 1 second or 8 seconds in total. Maybe worth looking into.

Damnit I didn't mean to post here. Ah well. I'm pretty sure it's caused by putting the Grapple Hook away as soon as you hit the treasure.

Yeah Phazon, it's old. Also completely random methinks? It happened during the Marathon too. I mean, if you really wanna try and to it for every shard, be my guest but eh :U

It;s happened to me a few times, it's due to an Octork being in the way of the chest, from what i can tell. Something any TAS should try to do for every chest possible. I'd not call it impossible to luck in a short segment...

Good to know. The only problem is that the Octoroks don't normally appear straight away. Not from what I can tell anyway, so even in a TAS it's pretty useless.

Ok, now I've been working on Segment 14 for a total of 4 hours and I don't manage to try anymore. So I don't think I'll try that segment again for at least a week. Speedrunning must be the quickest way to get bored of a game.

This is a very true statement, and it pretty much stands for this game more than anything. Luckily I haven't been bored of it (nothing like blowing through the game in one sitting multiple times :3) But yeah, I'd say that's the main reason people have failed at speedrunning this. They eventually get bored =[

I know how you're feeling right now Marcus. I got so angry with segment 14. It's really a huge pain, but you shouldn't give up on the run altogether. Just try again when you're calmer and you will, eventually get it.

You have to remember that it takes time. Phazon's still near the beginning of the game with his run. He took his time with it. Just take a break (I'd say the week you were going to) and start doing attempts then. Also, I don't think anyone here will really kick you in the teeth if you don't utilize the fastest strategies in here, unless it saves say, 10 seconds at least.
