Hello,

I started to run some Glitchless about 2 months ago. I'm training on my PAL GC in english atm.
Since my splits start to be decent I would like to get started in Jap.

When I look at the Glitchless Leaderboard I see that the majority of runners are using the JP Wii VC.
In my case I dont own a Wii so I was wondering to play on emulator.

I would like to know why ppl prefer to play on VC that on emu ? Is there any difference in time ? Is this only a Pad confort since using a GC pad on PC need an adapator ? Is this related to the saving time (nt revelant on glitchless since savewarp is forbidden) ? Is there any reason that a runner on emulator will be dis-advantaged compared to a runner on Wii VC ?
It's not like I plan to beat some record and can't stand to lose 2 sec with the wrong device but I would be nice to know the strengths/wkness of my setup.

Thanks by advance.

Emulators are inaccurate compared to consoles (technically the Wii virtual console is an emulator too, which makes it inaccurate, but it's official which makes it ok) People dont really consider emulator runs legit especially if a WR was done on it. Emulators do have some problems, to my knowledge the game can crash on Ganon's Castle Trials or something.

On glitchless I don't think theres anything Emulator loses time to other than pause buffering which is difficult, because of the way lag is emulated. Not sure if glitchless has any tricks requiring pause buffer though.

Using a slow version on purpose is your choice, but you will get no sympathy or agreement from me.

Thanks for your answer.

I might be able to get a wii so there is my second question:

I am not very aware of the process to get JP OOT on a PAL Wii. By checking online I found this:
http://forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/index.php?topic=1271.0

If I understand well i'm not going to use a "legit" OOT from the Japanese Nintendo Shop throught the official VC paid 1000 with nintendo point, it's a emulator used throught the wii and I will play it for free right ? Is this "legal" or it's in the same dark clouds of an emulator on PC where I'm good to play as long as I own the original game ? (not that i'm absolutly againt any non-legal process but it's more curiosity than anything).

Since I am not using an official VC from a NTSC Wii is this considered by the speedrun community as an emulator or a JP WII VC ? In other words on the leader board what's the platform ?

technically the Wii virtual console is an emulator too

Since again it's a emulator on wii is there any emulated lag problem as well ?

Sorry if those question seems basics and dumbs but it's all new to me.

Thanks by advance.

Basically it uses the Wii VC emulator with a "rom" of the Japanese version, you could technically region change the wii and go buy it from the Japanese shop, but it's not really worth it. (Wii64 is a completely different emulator, you dont want that) But yea basically same dark clouds, even if you own a copy of the game, you basically don't have the rights for it, just a way to play to it. Even though you technically already paid for it, it's not legal to use roms which is pretty dumb.

The VC "emulator" used is the same for all regions, it's just the rom that is different. The games themselves do have a region lock, so you need to find a way around that.

The emulated lag isn't bad on VC with pausing, people usually use VC over N64 and GC because it has less lag and loads faster. (Its possible to put a 1.0/1.1 rom inside the emu too, but since Nintendo never released either version on Wii Shop, it's not allowed)

The problem with pausebuffer on emulators is that the unpause and pause lag aren't consistent, and it's hard to advance frame by frame.
