Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Blizzerk on September 02, 2009, 02:56:30 PM Well, TP runs off of the Wind waker engine, and the engine is pretty stable, I mean, OoT has engine issues as did MM (Hovering, ISG, among other things) but these two games have no engine breaks. in TP there is LJA but that is the single lone engine glitch. Most glitches come from abusing the elements in rooms and such.
Just my 2 cents. I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Blizzerk on September 02, 2009, 09:15:02 PM Sorry for being a nub, but yeah, those are issues. However for the most part the engine is solid, compare it to OoT :3
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on September 03, 2009, 04:29:41 PM I was watching the twilight princess at the home page and:

I was watchin the FT tricks stuff and, the boomerang early was found by paraxade, using a trick found by fierce Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on September 05, 2009, 07:52:56 AM Lets hope mzx doesn't change the entire route before Chimpas finishes. :-\ Speaking of which, how is BiT coming mzx? I haven't made much progress on the BiT save because I've been sidetracked by the huge possibilities BiTE. But I'm about 90% sure now that the BiT save can be completed, and would save about 3-4 minutes on the any % now that Epona doesn't need to be tamed. But then again, I could be wrong. I hope so also, I have never able to do the BiT with a void but if the route is changed I'll shure do it, will hurt since the LBT, snowpeak ruins, forest temple 1/3 and AG are not that easy to do... My guess is that you're trying to do BiT way to late, which is the same thing Jer was doing. Over a void, you should reset the game just a hair or two after Link reaches the peak of his jump. You're really going to have to play around with the timing though if you want to get it. I suggest recording your attempts so that if you do manage BiT you can figure out how to do it again. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Unreal on September 06, 2009, 03:52:58 PM I was watchin the FT tricks stuff and, the boomerang early was found by paraxade, using a trick found by fierce It was discovered by Acryte not Paraxade. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on September 07, 2009, 04:18:57 PM Is a fact: I'll leave my actual speedrun and do the BiT speedrun, I just need a written route because I don't know this glitch at all
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ComboKing on September 08, 2009, 03:28:27 AM Is BiT faster than EMS? Also I would like that route to so I can do a playthrough using it.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Jer on September 08, 2009, 04:32:54 AM Yeah i think it might be faster then EMS
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: SD2 on September 08, 2009, 12:44:52 PM We can't put the two together? EMS saves well over 20 minutes, I can't see BiT saving more than that.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Jer on September 08, 2009, 02:41:55 PM When you BiT after Faron Gate Clip, you respawn with the Master sword, so idk how it would work
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on September 08, 2009, 04:13:15 PM When you BiT after Faron Gate Clip, you respawn with the Master sword, so idk how it would work Nop, BiT after the gate clip and you wake up with ordon sword and Hylian Shield, then rescue talo using them, then do EMS and almost everything goes normal, BiT saves 5 minutesTitle: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Jer on September 08, 2009, 04:55:12 PM Yeah, you're right :P
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on September 09, 2009, 04:15:52 PM I'm having an amazing crazy idea:

I already said I don't know how do BiT works, my idea was being at faron, like in the first days, having the boomerang, boots and master sword, so scape through the gate, but I don't know how would Link respawn at BiTE, if all items are there and not twilight, then my idea is possible.I can't test that myself, every time I attempt BiTE my game freeze Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Majora MIM on September 26, 2009, 01:13:46 PM Quick bomb drops:

I couldn't tolerate breaking jars over and over in Lake Hylia to keep testing this. A blue rupee appeared 3 times in 2 hours. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on October 17, 2009, 02:14:45 AM Indeed thats old
APART: have somebody timed if it's faster to go AG before SPR? I timed and result two seconds faster to warp to lake hilya then run to fyer, would be more comfortable to go SP using auru's memo, EDIT: hey guys, I found a nice sequence break for the SPR, it was found by ZS19 first but wath the hell, he did it using hidden skills and I did it using three simple bomb boosts: At the room with the puzzle, push the first block to the frozen block, bomboost-jump attack onto the small block and quick jump to the block you pushed, time a bomboost-gap jump on the block of boxes near the frozen block, you mu8st time and direction correctly or you (or the bomb) will get fozen, then just bomboost-jump attack to beat the invisible wall and get the ordon pumpkin. EDIT 2: I almost clip through the first web at the faron cavern, and would be possible also at the gate where the clawshot is, usig the same method than the LBT gate clip I'm sure it's a great alternative to beat SPR (´till the B&C at least) then use it to get AG easy, and beat death sword also, I don't know how slower than the 'normal' sequence is it, but now would be worth to skip MC since are lower the warps... Can somebody time this for me?. Or make a video please?? Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Erodyne on October 31, 2009, 04:20:53 PM Clip through a wall in Death Mountain. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: logitechsdaz on October 31, 2009, 09:08:04 PM Clip through a wall in Death Mountain. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJg6mviVEYo) Check out the link in the description for the actual use of this glitch. I need to find a way to optimize this to save a few more seconds. In reality, this would be done when the Goron is trying to punch you and when lava rocks are falling. It is harder to get the wall clipped quickly as a result. It is possible though. After clipping the wall, there might be a better spot to use LJA. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: TSDA on November 05, 2009, 12:24:04 AM This is weird....

I have no idea if you can take the stone into the town but just an idea ;) Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Chimpas on December 21, 2009, 05:43:01 PM I found a little timesaver at PoT, around 8 seconds: just skip the prompt os saving after Zant then save after you fall to the dungeon, it will warp you to the entrance of the mirror

I tried side jumping, bombs, regular jump-attacking, long-jump attacking with the boomerang..and of course the stupid crate. If someone's already done this too, please let me know, but I couldn't find a video of it. Try map glitch if nothing else . http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/site/index.php?link=tp/tech/MapGlitch Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: brynnagiadrosich on September 08, 2010, 09:16:37 AM This isn't really a time-saver or anything terribly interesting, just something kinda neat I found while practicing the sewers:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jfzADi_5L8 You can just avoid the first jump on the last stretch of Midna-On-Rails. I did it by accident, and it's riskier than just doing it the normal way. Thought I'd share. EDIT: Something weird just happened in my game. For some reason, the camera wouldn't center behind Link, causing for some very disorienting angles, and even during the goat herding it happened. It started up right after the Ilia scene at the beginning. Has this happened to anyone else? I caught it while I was recording, if anyone's interested, and I've been trying to recreate it. The weirdness didn't really go away until I completely reset the system, saving and quitting didn't help. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ComboKing on September 08, 2010, 10:14:44 PM I'd like to see the camera glitch.

Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: brynnagiadrosich on September 13, 2010, 12:25:57 PM Apparently my version of the game seems to be very buggy/glitchy. Just ran across another weird glitch that happened while recording Lakebed temple for my LP.
I'm rendering the video now, and should be up in an hour or two. I was once again attempting speedrun techniques, but gave up on a few so I didn't waste recording time, and then got the boss key after raising the level once. I then, went to attempt a long jump attack to the boss door, failed, fell in the water, and was headed for the vines to climb out and try again. And then I swam underneath the bridge, and for some reason, the game though the water was raised another level, just underneath the bridge. I am unsure if one can recreate this, nor is it really helpful, but I sort of wonder if anyone else has had this problem while in this temple. Is there a possibility that the game thought it was full because I had gotten the boss key? And if so, why just underneath the bridge? Video up in a few hours, but posting this early in case anyone has heard of this. EDIT: Video up! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NIyXE4aB18 It's straight from my LP, so there is commentary. Just mute if you don't want to listen to it. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on September 13, 2010, 07:00:09 PM The spinning staircase is already particularly glitchy to begin with. There seems to be a water actor attached to the stairs, and you can actually swim underneath the stairs if I recall correctly. However, I haven't seen anything this weird.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ComboKing on September 13, 2010, 10:32:05 PM An actor shouldn't cause you to be sucked in like that. Right?
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: JRD05 on September 16, 2010, 12:23:44 AM I think I have found a way to duplicate the bomb bag you get from the Zora at the end of Iza's rapids. It makes use of the duplicate boomerang glitch. Unfortunately, you need to get oob in the cabin right after you beat the messengers. I got oob using AR codes but there might be another way without cheats.
http://www.megavideo.com/?v=TNO4URG1 I used the invisible floor cheat when going downstream just to make things slightly faster. I'm not sure if this has any use in speedrunning but maybe there is a way to dupe other items that would be more useful. Also, the quality is severely lacking in this video. Thanks, I originally made a megavideo account so I could upload my ILs. However, since those days are probably done for me and megavideo has some upload limitations, I think I will create a youtube account in the near future. brynna, Since Hyrule Castle is considered a dungeon in this game, save warping will place you back at the entrance of the whole level. Death warping sends you to the last set of double doors you entered to get to the towers. The fastest theoretical way to leave the barriers that I can think of is to somehow get oob and fall into a void. You will reload in the same spot as death warping but you won't have to put up with the game over stuff. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: bluephantom340 on September 22, 2010, 04:09:07 AM Looks like game over is the best for a speed run. Nice find

Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Razor7581 on October 10, 2010, 03:14:42 PM I think that this glitch has been majorly overlooked and forgotten:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-9BAcMEGPI Surely this could be used to skip the first and second goat games, unless freezes occur. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Paraxade on October 11, 2010, 02:13:17 AM no, it hasn't been. first off it doesn't work until after you've finished the second herding, second off you end up getting permanently stuck at the taming epona sequence
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Razor7581 on October 11, 2010, 09:20:21 PM no, it hasn't been. first off it doesn't work until after you've finished the second herding, second off you end up getting permanently stuck at the taming epona sequence Too bad. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Paraxade on October 12, 2010, 01:12:14 AM Again. There is no second goat herding skip, because the trick doesn't work until you've already finished herding. It's 100% useless.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: JRD05 on October 12, 2010, 07:15:08 PM Again. There is no second goat herding skip, because the trick doesn't work until you've already finished herding. It's 100% useless. That doesn't answer my question. I was wondering if this Ordon Ranch "alternative exit" was performed on a BIT game file. If so, I was curious as to whether or not there is still a dead end at Kakariko Village, since Epona is already tamed, and if there are any other effects. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on October 30, 2010, 05:59:53 AM For those of you who don't quite get it yet, this is my theoretical "Skip half the forest" route
We do the normal Any% Seg route through from BiT up until just after the Sword and Shield skip. From there we do EMS normally, but without collecting bugs. We shouldn't need to collect them because we should be able to do BiT Equipped from Mayor Bo's house to jump straight into to Kakariko Twilight. From EMS we go over to the Forest Temple to collect the Gale Boomerang, then head to Bo's house, save, and BiTE. Here is where we run into the big issue. We cannot warp from the map screen with Z warp without destroying the messengers on the other side of Kakariko Gorge, and without this we cannot warp the cannon for Early CitS. However, if we clear Kakariko Twilight, we lose the ability to learn the Z warp. So we have to figure out somehow to get to the other side of the bridge, or else Skipping half of the forest will be useless in a speedrun. Despite that, the skip should still be possible. After we clear Kakariko Twilight, we should be able to activate the Map Glitch without the Z Map button in Hyrule Field and fly Epona around past the boulders blocking the path to Laranyu Twilight. However, I still haven't been able to manage to activate the map glitch unless Midna is on my back. Hopefully we'll also still be able to warp the Goron Rock as it doesn't require the Z Map button to warp, but I have a funny feeling that someone already tried this and failed with cheats. From there it should be relatively smooth sailing until the CitS subquest, where I've forgotten everything about that crap. Unfortunately it only works under a few circumstances. You can try and see if you can get it to work in other places. As for that route, the bigger issue with that (iirc, there's so many weird things to remember about TP), is that you can't move the stone from Death Mountain without Z Map. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: TLoZSR on July 11, 2011, 05:07:13 AM Thanks, I'm working on something, and this may or may not be helpful

Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Razor7581 on August 03, 2011, 03:00:40 PM I found that if you do infinite bombs & arrows, and then do BiT & die, you will have the bombs and arrows (set to the default values of 30) in your inventory. After discussing this with Logitech, we also believe that this finally makes getting the clawshot before the Forest Temple possible for FT IL runs. Here's the basic route he came up with:
1. infinite bombs/arrows 2. BiT 3. ems 4. clear Faron twilight 5. iron boots 6. BiTE (to get to Kakariko) 7. clear twilight 8. bomb the rock close to Eldin bridge 9. enter lake hylia 10. rupee dive, enter Lakebed, save (to automatically get past the water tunnel) 11. empty bomb bag, get water bombs 12. get ooccoo, blow up rock to Deku Toad, get clawshot 13. warp out, warp to north Faron, enter forest temple (We could probably also get the Ball & Chain early as well and possibly use it on Diababa for a much faster fight.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nanS4gHC9w Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: JRD05 on August 04, 2011, 03:00:21 AM I found that if you do infinite bombs & arrows, and then do BiT & die, you will have the bombs and arrows (set to the default values of 30) in your inventory. The Dangross fight to get the Hero's bow can be skipped and we can just lja off that ledge to go straight to Fyrus. NVM, we still need to collect at least the third key shard, so we have to fight Dangross. It might save a few frames from having to open the Hero's Bow chest and possibly hitting the blue crystal switch in the water room, but nothing really spectacular that I can think of. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on August 06, 2011, 04:31:25 PM Just the Sword and Shield LJA, nothing new. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Razor7581 on August 10, 2011, 07:27:15 PM After some discussion with Logitech, we came to realize that you can substitute water bombs for normal bombs when doing bombs & arrows in BiT. This means that it is no longer necessary to do any stupid cutscene diving into Lakebed temple as we can now just blow up the rock. I've restarted playing through Logitech's route, and after I have finished will probably post an edited version of the route along with a Forest Temple IL route.
EDIT: Improved Clawshot before the Forest Temple route can be found here: http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/tp/routes/clawshot-before-forest-temple Also, here's the new Forest Temple IL routes: Any%: >(Have clawshot & bomb arrows equipped) - Roll twice in tunnel, shoot bomb arrow at cage (A good shot should kill one to two of the walltulas as well.) - Midna Text - Clawshot up vines >(Equip lantern over bomb arrows) - Open door to torch room - Clawshot vines to door on left (GCN) - Burn web >(Equip bomb arrows over lantern) - Early Gale Boomerang (Have fun with this as the wacky camera makes it very difficult to optimize.) - Ook with bomb arrow >(Equip boomerang and lantern) - Roll across bridge back to torch room (Don't get screwed up by the camera when exiting the Ook room.) - Use a LJA (GCN) to get on torch platform, or Jump down and clawshot to the vines (Can be a Wii alternative or just an alternative in general. It's just as fast as a good LJA, but easier.) - Clawshot to vines (Make sure not to be too close to the monkey or he'll grab you.) - Burn web >(Equip clawshot over lantern) - Clawshot to vines >(Equip bomb arrows over clawshot) - Pinwheels with boomerang - Roll near chest as gates open - Big Key - Make your way to monkey tree room *- LJA to Boss Door - Diababa with bomb arrows *If you're playing on the Wii Version, get on the bridge to your right and clawshot the vines wall. Drop down, and clawshot to the vines by the boss door. 100%: >(Enter dungeon with clawshot and bomb arrows equipped) -Roll into and skip opening cutscene -Clawshot up vines on right -Open Chest (Yellow Rupee) -Bomb arrow monkey cage -Clawshot up vines and open door >(Equip bombs over bomb arrows) -Clawshot to door on left -Go left, bomb deku like >(Combine bow with bombs for bomb arrows) -Open Chest (Heart Piece) -Early Gale Boomerang -Ook with bomb arrows >(Equip Boomerang over clawshot) -Cross bridge to torch room -Open chest on left (Map) -Boomerang web to knock down chest above torch platform >(Equip clawshot over boomerang) -Drop down, use bomb arrow on wall -Open chest (red rupee) -Clawshot to vines on right -Bomb arrow rock >(Equip boomerang over bomb arrows) -Deku like skip -Roll into pole for chest -Open chest (small key) -Roll across bridge to torches -Use Boomerang on left torch -Open chest (Heart Piece) -Clawshot up vines on left -Open Chest (Red Rupee) -Leave room -Clawshot vines -Quick Big Baba -Key -Back to torch platform room -Swing with monkey -Open chest (Compass) -Clawshot to vines -Burn web -Clawshot vines on right -Use boomerang on Pinwheels, roll past gates as they open -Open chest (Big Key) -Drop into water, swim into cavern -Open chest (Yellow Rupee) -Climb Vines -Go to door on right -Drop down to chest and open it (Yellow Rupee) -Clawshot vines to get back to door -Get to Bridge Room -Open chest on left (small key) *-LJA Past Bridge to left -Open door -Leave room -Across bridge -Open door -Tile worm to chest trick -Open chest (Red Rupee) -Drop down *-LJA Past bridge -Monkey tree room -Clawshot vines on left -Deku Like skip -Open chest (small key) -Back to monkey tree room -Drop down -Clawshot vines by boss door >(Equip bomb arrows over clawshot) -Diababa with bomb arrows -Heart Container -Show map *Steps that use LJA's cannot be done on Wii. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Rocmox on January 25, 2012, 04:02:39 AM While messing around with LJ I decided to see if there may be a way to skip forest temple bk. I know it is barely out of the way, but I was just interested to see if it could be done. After looking around, I found that there is a hole in the wall that is covered by a texture which aims at the bk door. Basically it looks like it might be possible, but I suck at ljs so I haven't been able to do extensive testing.
Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AEhOReVLzg I'm not sure if its possible to get straight into the loading zone, but it might be possible to land on the floor right in front of the bk door if it stretches oob and then walk to the loading zone while oob from there. The rest of the wall around the hole seems to be solid, so it might also be possible to land on the bottom of the hole in the wall, and then from there do a lj to either the floor or the loading zone. Have you tested and confirmed with a cheat device that there is a loading zone oob for bosses? I think the only way to activate a boss fight is to physically open the boss door, but I could be wrong. The only exception I know of is Lakebed Temple, since there is a separate loading zone you jump into once the boss door is open. Because it is technically part of the grand hall area, it's still active when you are there, allowing you to get to Morpheel early. Basically, you get on Epona, use a spur, then press and release R (I prefer holding for a bit though) at the last second before Link sits up, press A. If done correctly, you'll dismount while Epona is still moving and rocket forward for a time. I lamely dubbed it the 'Eponaslide!' If we could some how extend out of it, it could be pretty useful! I hope the description is enough for someone to record it in my place.

Not sure how useful this will be, but i figured i'd post it anyway. The only thing that seems like it could matter at all in real time is the wolf dash speed. In certain areas (? still not sure if that's it, but i guess it makes sense that they'd move faster in bigger areas than in smaller ones) it is only very, very slightly faster than rolling, so it wouldn't make sense to switch to wolf for running around. Though i'd guess that the only time you'd even consider switching to wolf just to run faster, you would indeed be getting the 45 move speed, so who knows? Might need to test every area to be sure... Also, always press A as soon as possible when rolling. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on April 22, 2012, 05:25:33 PM Useful info! Thanks for this. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ING-X on April 29, 2012, 02:53:49 AM Yeah, gates in TP have an RNG in them that determines which direction they'll swing when you roll into them. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ahou on April 29, 2012, 03:48:47 AM Quote Rog did some testing with goats, you can read his results on the TAS thread. I actually didn't test how luck affected them at all. I didn't even realize it did. After testing it some, i still don't see any affect from luck. I just started a brand new game, played through to goats, and they started in exactly the same position, facing exactly the same direction as when i tased it. Running around beforehand, and even attacking the goats makes no difference.I can try seeing if my goat herding from before will sync if i hex it in to be 100% sure, but it does not appear to be random at all. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ahou on April 29, 2012, 08:16:15 PM Just hexed in the goat herding, and it synced. It's definitely not affected by luck at all.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ING-X on April 29, 2012, 09:36:58 PM So I guess goats are just so precise and affected by so many factors that they seem luck based then.

If you map glitch in the center hyrule town area you can run up and push the door that the guards usually block open, and if you save, the doors are open ( in the background). so when you load the save it looks like the doors are open from the center market area and then you actually go there and the guards are there and its closed :(. You can get past the first door if you glitch from Hyrule town square. However, I wouldn't consider that to be the closest early Hyrule Castle method. In fact, it's pretty far off and isn't really a method at all. You can walk an infinite distance past the first door using cheats if you do map glitch in Hyrule square then go to north Hyrule and you still won't see the hyrule castle door or a loading zone. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: JRD05 on June 24, 2012, 07:43:18 PM You've posted some interesting discoveries there.
Yea, that Kakariko gorge crossing method is a little slow. But does it have merit for a single segment run (or low% single segment if it is really slow) when taking into account the new forest escape, since you can't BIT, BITE, or reset? And it's good we can skip the spinner. The only problem is that when the spinner is skipped, I think you would also have to skip the double clawshots. You need the spinner in City in the Sky to get across that first bridge and eventually make your way to the mini boss fight. Most likely you won't be able to skip the double clawshots because of that long empty hallway in Hyrule Castle before the last darknut fight. But who knows, maybe a way will be found now that there are TASing capabilities. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on June 24, 2012, 07:50:32 PM You've posted some interesting discoveries there. Single Segment still can't use the new forest escape because of Lakebed Temple. Can't skip City in the Sky because you have to get into Palace of Twilight. The gap in Hyrule Castle for the double clawshots is too large for an LJA to even come remotely close, so I doubt spinner will ever be completely skipped even in a EHC scenario.Yea, that Kakariko gorge crossing method is a little slow. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ahou on June 25, 2012, 06:09:22 AM Isn't there a way to do cits without spinner?
Single segment without zora armor would need water bombs before entering lakebed. I believe the only way to do that is to fish for them, which i can't imagine being faster. Getting over the fence is almost impossible anyway. I tried for 2-3 hours yesterday, and couldn't get over again. It's definitely impossible to skip clawshots. The stairs in HC are about the same height/distance as the spinner one, but without damage boost, you can't jump across any of the platforms. This might lead to more research on item duplication and possibly memory address manipulation if it could get link oob. When you fall oob in the boat house area, I believe the game will dupe the item in your x to your y. If you don't have anything equipped to x or something like that, I remember it giving me a black rupee, which supposedly has a hex value of 00. I've tried using cheats to get two single clawshots, but unfortunately it doesn't work the same as the actual double clawshots item. Most of this is just speculation of course. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: oligi3008 on September 23, 2012, 01:00:33 PM The Black Rupee is an item that was in development but scrapped later BTW. It is an anti-rupee that was later used for Skyward Sword instead.
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on November 01, 2012, 03:55:23 AM found in an old text document
Random info: - Bo's "moveset" changes with movement from Link. His first phase includes a fourth "standstill" move, which allows for a quick grab. - Mailman skip heading to Kakariko Gorge (Twilight) saves around ten seconds if you're already a wolf. Using epona, it saves around 2 seconds. - Enter/Exiting Renado's House to fix Eldin Twilight (Post BiTE) is 2 seconds faster than exit/entering through the Kakariko front entrance. - Wolf from to Auru's Tower is 1.5 - 2 seconds faster than Human. Swimming with Zora Armor is the fastest way to Fyer, followed by running there as wolf. -Crawling to zora armor: Crawl takes 111 frames earliest you can start backing up is 31 frames in if you back up the crawl takes 137 frames (26 frames slower or .86666... seconds) - Back in Time via jump can be done when the D-Pad Item menu is brought up on the 6th visual frame of Link jumping into the air (Ordon Bridge). - It takes 10 frames for the D-Pad menu to disappear (notice movement). - 4 frames after the d-pad item menu starts to disappears, you can hit it again to bring it back up. - Even with perfect d-pad buffering, a minimum of 2 visual frames will pass. - Back in Time is, indeed, only one frame. - Without D-Pad assistance, Back in Time has to be done 3 frames before you jump into the air (4th frame should be the start of the jump animation)(Ordon Bridge). Clawshot aiming: c-up quick aim = 12 frames l-target quick aim = 17 frames standard aim (clawshot in hands) = 26 frames standard aim = 31 frames ^ This is until retina appearance, but the same frame window differences apply for noticable camera movement most of this information is useless Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on December 01, 2012, 04:06:52 AM Differences between the three Any% Categories/Routes:

After doing BiT and saving Talo you have to do goats. If you watch the cut scene into Ordon Village up until the second time you see Epona (She will still be there the first time, but she is in a loading zone so you can mount her) you can skip from there and Epona will still be there. You can ride around in Ordon village, but leaving either back to the ranch or going to links house will cause you to crash.
Once again I'm sorry if this has around been found. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ING-X on February 05, 2013, 02:04:45 AM What exactly would the forest skip no s+q route be? From my estimation, this appears to be the route:
-Old school intro -Get sword and shield -EMS -Forest Temple up to boomerang (get ooccoo) -Ooccoo out of temple -Warp to South Faron, escape -Eldin twilight, kill messengers -Warp to South Faron, escape again -Special Olympics Fence Jump -Eldin tears -Tame epona -Warp to Ordon for sumo -Early Lanayru -Lanayru tears (howl at howling stone in upper river) -Climb snowpeak with map glitch -Snowpeak Ooccoo -Steal bomb bag -Ball and chain -Warp to Kakariko, call epona and catch 2 bomb fish -Get 5 water bombs from Snowpeak -Warp to ZD, get goron bomb bag -Warp to LH and enter Lakebed -Complete Lakebed -the rest is normal except get ending blow on the way to Hyrule Castle This... doesn't seem faster. Skipping faron twilight looks to be slower because you would have to get sword and shield, and forest skip looks to be slower because you would have to do ordon days 1+2 (which is the reason zora armor skip is slower in no s+q). Am I missing something? Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on February 05, 2013, 08:32:53 AM Why would you get sword and shield?
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ING-X on February 05, 2013, 12:09:19 PM If you skip Faron Twilight, you need the Ordon spring warp to come back for sumo since you can't get past the twilight wall from the other side. The Ordon spring warp never gets activated if you don't get sword and shield. Yeah, this plus having to do things like Ordon Day1/2, fishing out water bombs, etc. made me think it's slower. Maybe I'll sit down and time it one day when I'm bored.Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on February 10, 2013, 02:01:34 AM Sword and Shield Skip saves around 2:45 if done well. Skipping the Faron Twilight Bugs saves 2:50 initially, but loses 1:00 - 1:30 from having to do extra howls for ending blow that would be unnecessary in a route that completed the Twilight. Therefore S&S Skip + completing Faron Twilight will always be faster in a run where you have to return to Ordon later (No S+Q run).
Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ING-X on February 10, 2013, 02:36:47 AM S&S skip saves 2:45? That does not sound right. Are you talking like, TAS-quality S&S skip? Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Pheenoh on February 10, 2013, 04:02:17 AM S&S skip saves 2:45? That does not sound right. Are you talking like, TAS-quality S&S skip? Also, are you factoring in the fact that S&S skip wastes 23 seconds going back to Ordon for sumo because of a different warp spot? It takes an extra 26 seconds to escape the forest the second time, call epona in Hyrule Field and ride to Lanayru gate over the other route, so having the Ordon Warp in this particular situation doesn't save any time. Sword and Shield Skip took me 1:10 from control in Ordon Spring to saying 'yes' to entering the twilight (this includes the midna text). I timed it against a perfect sword and shield quest (I got house jump and a first frame Midna jump to the Ordon Shield) which was 3:55. This skip was almost perfect, but even timed against a bad one it would still save something like 2:25 or 2:20. Even in that case, it's still at least 40 seconds slower to get the sword and shield.EDIT: I'm silly, both routes would have to do the forest escape. :P I'll time the actual time lost from having to do the howling stone sequence + running over to the wolf. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Hornlitz on February 13, 2013, 01:29:15 AM Could someone please explain how this clip is done and where by the door this is? It's in the room with the 4 lanterns and the big metal gate. On the staircase up to the gate, there are 2 pillars, one on each side of you. You can roll into the corner between the walls by the gate and the pillar, (Do the one on the right to get the clip through) and then through to a tight spot by the railing. From here, put a bomb down, and then when the bomb is near exploding, aim your clawshot at the tile and release it. If you timed it right, The bomb should knock you out of the clawshot animation and you'll fall to your death. Don't aim your clawshot right away, because it will start pushing you out of the corner if you aim right away. I also tried the theories but none worked. The shadow wall just pushes you out of the way. You would need much more LJA speed to get past it.

Well, I got some (maybe not) interesting results. In my run today, I saved a file at getting the first Sol out of the palace into the courtyard. Normally, when you take the Sol to the center palace, Midna stops you and you drop the Sol. Also, doing an LJA doesn't help because the trigger is quite big and Link can not cover the distance. So, nothing interesting here so far. There is a massive invisible wall there. It's definitely not even close to possible. You need the butter sword anyway. However, when using cheats (Moonjump and Inf. Health) I managed to get the Sol on the other side of the Midna trigger. What I did: take the Sol, throw it over the Twili person so that the Sol would roll against his legs. Then, I moonjumped over the trigger and pull the Sol back by using the Clawshot. Then, I took the Sol to the curtain of shadow crystals. It cleared but still there's an invisible wall by jumping normally. Results: - Normal jump: invisible wall, also as wolf. - LJA (normal direction): invisible wall. - LJA (to the right, as shown in the video under here): invisible wall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTbCL8mJMFk Nothing. Yet. P.S. Has anyone got a .gci file at the beginning of the PoT? I would be really grateful if someone can test it with a "clean" PoT. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: oligi3008 on August 13, 2013, 06:58:36 PM I wonder if these circles were intended by the programmers. This would be similar to the cicular white stone slaps in the Temple of Time, the best spot to shot the crystal switches in the room with the movable walls.

I think it's impossibru though :-/ I always thought Zant's HP in all fights besides the last one were based on the number of "end-of-combo" hits dealt to him, so I dunno if this would have worked even if you could have stabbed him ten times. I could be wrong though.http://youtu.be/S44G53uLIoQ Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: UchihaSasuke on September 06, 2013, 03:12:45 AM i got this fight with Puppet Zelda: http://www.twitch.tv/uchihasda/c/2879088

Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: ZFG on October 03, 2013, 09:13:24 PM I've seen a few people messing around with lag reduction strats using a side view camera and decided to test some stuff myself. On dolphin I went to the lanayru HF area where MDH starts, and in that area I usually get ~75% speed while I can usually play most areas of the game at full speed. I tried running to castle town with the side view strats and it didn't really do anything, but I then tested with C down camera and the speed increased to ~79-81%. I'm not 100% sure this means it's a good lag reduction strat or if it might just be emu issues, but it seems to help. During a run yesterday I also tried it out in the desert out of curiosity and it definitely looked like the framerate picked up but I cant be sure. Just something that should be considered/tested.
Edit: Did some console testing, C down cam didn't seem to help in hyrule field, but I also tested in the desert and it saved about 4.5 seconds from the start to where you ball and chain the tower. Considering that's probably the laggiest place in the game it probably wont save much time in many other areas but should probably be tested more. I found a glitch that allows you to go straight to the Water Temple in less than 5 minutes of gameplay. 1) Infinite Bombs & Arrows with Water Bombs in your first bomb bag 2) BiT 3) Save during BiT 4) Once in FW, get Iron Boots. 5) With boots, get Lantern, then do Early Hyrule Field (Epona Clip method) 6) Do Early Lanayru Province (Epona Clip) 7) Jump off the Hylian Bridge to Early Lake Hylia. This is where my glitch comes in. I call it: "Diveless Early Lakebed Temple" 8) Once in Lake Hylia, swim to where you are near the entrance of the dungeon. 9) Put on the Iron Boots and sink to the bottom. 10) Once at bottom, quickly do Swim with Water Bombs by swaping the Iron Boots with the Lantern. 11) Try to float up enough to where the bomb explodes in front of the rock to blow it up (this may take 2 attempts to be on the safe side). 12) Once inside, you can use at least 3 Water Bombs to get past that underwater tunnel there without Zora Armor. Then tada! What makes my version of Early Lakebed Temple unique is that it is possible on ANY verison of TP, since it doesn't require Rupee Diving, which is patched on the newest TP's (including mine :() However, this glitch sounds good, but it is completely useless unless we can get to the Forest Temple to learn the Ending Blow hidden skill, which is required to beat Ganondorf. For the Ending Blow, we would have to complete Twilight Faron Woods, which would mean doing the Ordon Sword & Shield Skip. Since it's on a BiT file, we would still have to do all the BiT fixes as well, obviously. Now I can't test this theory on my own to beat the game because I have the latest version of TP, which means I can't do the Map Glitch to Early Snowpeak, but I am currently working on getting to that point, but that would be as far as I would be able to get, so it would be up to you guys from there. :( Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: mzxrules on May 05, 2014, 08:21:15 AM That isn't exactly anything new. It's been known that you can quite easily enter Lakebed if you have iron boots + water bombs, since that what I had done way back when I discovered the white midna glitch.
Infinite Bombs & Arrows won't save time because the setup to Infinite Bombs & Arrows must count towards the run time. Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: The Link Between Worlds on May 05, 2014, 06:39:32 PM Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be that good. I'm new to this whole speedrunning thing, but I'm generally a good glitcher. I have a lot of good glitches for TP, but most of them require the use of CD Streaming, which makes them useless for speedrunning, but they are fun as a pastime. I found "Early Kakariko Village," "Actor Cloning," "Poe Soul Text Delay/Skip," "Escape Twilight Faron Woods as a Human," and "Human in Twilight Kakariko Gorge." I like all of your glitches mzxrules. You're one of my favorite Zelda glitchers on youtube. So is paraxade0, kazooie, LogitechSDAZ, and FierceLink. I plan to start speedrunning once I get a video capture card or a damn good video camera. :) I just registered to this site yesterday, so I'm still a noob to it, but I think it would be great if all the best Zelda glitchers could team up and break these games!

Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Habreno on June 27, 2015, 06:19:36 AM Currently, BiTE for Early Monkeys/EBF is done either after the initial BiTE and KB1 fight (in BiTE Route) or after EMS (in optimal route), or after Faron Vessel (All Dungeons). All three of these categories also have a BiT at the very beginning of the game as well.
Why can't we set up Early Monkeys/EBF before doing Ordon Village, during the initiial BiT we are forced to do? Thinking: Start game, gate clip, BiT, jump off edge once to pull up normal HuD. [Exactly like a normal start] Save, but don't quit, jump off again [Normal start would be to reset/quit after saving; jumping off again will trigger a Game Over] Continue, reset with either method (soft reset then skip CS or ride to edge and reset while falling) to trigger Early Monkeys/EBF? [Coincidentally, this puts you at the title screen to load your BiT file and savewarp] The Game Over is slightly annoying, yes, but it's got to be faster than having to S/Q and keep another file for BiTE. Someone who's better than me at TP, if you can test the timings? Title: Re: General Trick Discussion Post by: Habreno on August 12, 2015, 07:25:42 AM While there are a fair bit of glitches, I still have to tip my hat to the coders for this one.
If you do not have the ability to transform between human and wolf, are in wolf form, and attempt to open a chest that would normally transform you to human, you simply fail to open the chest, and Link, in wolf form, simply headbutts the chest. I found this out by the following: EMS, clearing through to puzzle, leaving MS behind. Normal 1st dungeon, Normal 2nd dungeon, Normal 3rd twilight, Zora Armor, Normal 3rd dungeon to Clawshot. Obtained Ooccoo, Bomb Boost to Sacred Grove as Human, ran through, blew up the rock, Ooccoo Jr. back to Lakebed. Completed Lakebed, MDH, Midna Jumps to Sacred Grove, ran through, dug into dig spot and killed babas to spawn chest. I thought for sure something weird would happen. On a side note, I intend to have Max% No Master Sword finished preliminary routing soon, if anyone cares about weird obscure things that don't beat the full game. P.S. Ignore my previous post from June. As I was informed in another source, the suggestion is not done because Sacred Grove sets the flag to 1, thus overriding the Early Monkeys set from KB1. |
