Hello! I'd like to invite everybody to come do a puzzle race for Link to the Past! It'll be held this Friday, December 30, 2011 at 9PM EST.
Out of bounds glitching is allowed. Since I imagine that most of the LttP racing community is not familiar with the advantages that going out of bounds may provide, I will be providing this map to help them on their way:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6998359/dungeonworld.pngHere are some descriptions of the Death Mountain Descent and Exploration Glitch to get you started:
- Go to where the Death Mountain broken bridge is, but in the dark world.
- Move against the ledge where the bridge would be, then use the mirror.
- Move one pixel right. You may find it easier to move up or down out of the portal, then adjust your position one pixel right, then move back to the portal.
- You should appear slightly closer to the ledge in the dark world. DON'T MOVE! Just use the mirror again, then move to the right out of the portal.
- When Link stops blinking, move backwards into the portal from the right.
- You should appear in the middle of the ledge without warping back to the light world. If not, try the previous step again.
- Hold right. You should jump off the ledge. Now if you walk down a screen, you will be off Death Mountain. If you walk down in the right spot, you can jump off the ledge and continue on past the graveyard.
- Jump off a ledge on the dungeon world. Not every ledge works, but most do. It must be a ledge that takes you from layer 1 to layer 2.
- Save and quit. This will activate the glitch on whichever file you load next, so long as the SNES doesn't power cycle or reset.
- Load the file. The next time you dash a wall or take damage you will "fall" to layer 2. However, it's mostly only useful to do this on the dungeon world. It is not useful to do this in the Sanctuary.
- You should be able to walk around as you please, with a few restictions:
- If you walk into a room that changes states, such as a room that unfloods in the Swamp Palace, or the room that leads to the big key in Misery Mire, you will be stuck as soon as you enter the screen. In this case, the only recourse is to save+quit and avoid the room in the future.
- You can only break out of the glitch in rooms that use the second layer. Such rooms include the Sanctuary, the entrance to Tower of Hera, and the well. Most dungeons cannot be broken into.
It's not a terribly hard puzzle, so keep an open mind and have some fun racing!
