I feel that sorry TSA that i can beat TSA's SS minish cap time and i feel creating a segmented run would be very possible in about 20 or 22 segments.

SS: I believe 2:30 or less is possible, if you have watched his run, its full of errors and he even states it was just to get the game in the ground.

Segmented: sub 2 hours, easy. The ocarina glitch would be useful amazing because you can skip 2 dungeons however i this might be a different category on SDA.

regardless, even with no new tricks found (hold for ocarina glitch) sub 2:30 is possible and i'll be aiming for 2:20

Fun fact: the test run (atma's suboptimal) tas was 2:24 but ive found places to improve it.

this page will be edited when Grunz gets back from vacation and has a route.

Actually, I made a route a little while ago (attached with this post).  I was going to do a run with this route, but I got a little too hooked on TP and then just abandoned it.

I don't think anything's changed, but feel free to make any corrections/insult the route.

EDIT: Slight changes to the route, nothing too major though.  Route is up to date as of 06/30/10.

That's quite helpful, actually. Grunz is writing a route and will give it to me when he gets back, but i'm pretty sure they are the same, howerver i haven't read yours yet...

Update: Sub 2 hours segmented is very possible I believe, with some minor route adjustments I can see 1:59 or less (most likely less)

I've decided I'm probably going to tackle a single segment run of the game after I practice a bit.

Sub-2:20 was the prediction we made a while ago with the segmented run using the ocarina glitch, but if you say the TAS got a suboptimal time of 2:24, we could probably get a segmented run a bit lower than the 2:20 we originally predicted.

I'm probably not going to start a run until Grunz gets back with the route.  He made a post on the TASvideos forum, but his post made it sound like he was still on vacation, so hopefully I'll be ready to stream live (if there are no objections and people would actually watch) within a week.

Just adding this on, I saw your new post:  Sub-2?  I had a run at the Fortress of Winds in (I believe) 1:15 or so, so going sub-2 would really be pushing it.

THe test run TAS did NOT use the ocarina glitch, so yeah, that seems possible to go sub 2 hours :3 It depends on the route, shortcuts and such. Ive found a few I havent published... If I posted a .vbm movie of just me laying without rerecords as a test run, would anyone watch it? it would be SS though so I would have to make like 40 small .vbm's

Sub 2:25 with no Ocarina glitch?  That's insane.  Shocked

Sub 2 sounds completely reasonable now...  Ocarina glitch saves at least 15 minutes, so with optimization, segmentation, etc...  What do you think is a reasonable goal for the SS, sub-2:10?

Yes, I'd watch the test run, but don't go out of your way to make it, I've played through the route a couple times and it worked fine.

Died half an hour into a practice run, at the Crenel Wall.  Even with 4 hearts, its hard to survive...

Well, I'd love to see the test run/stream you were speaking about.

sub 2:10 for a SS? I doubt it. Don't do a SS with the OG (Ocarina Glitch) because you need to manipulate a red kinstone of a specific shape from an iron knuckle. you only fight it once. no do-overs. in other words the only other way to get the right kinstone 100% is to go out of your way for a chest and with that you may as well not do MC SS with OG at all :S

The chest is just at the top of the school, takes 2 minutes tops to get, and contains the proper kinstone every single time, if I'm not mistaken.  Either way, it's a hell of a lot faster then doing Royal Valley and Cloud Tops.

Sorry for double post, but I've been watching Greenalink's videos, as well as TSA's old run, and I think I've got the SS route down.

The SS route will remain much the same, except that:

Instead of grabbing the red rupee the second time at the top of the vine (Start of Mt. Crenel), I'll be grabbing the one in the Deepwood Shrine.
I'm going to be grabbing every single heart container.  Enemies are rampant in this game, so it'll be much safer.
Castor Wilds will use a slightly altered route, nothing too serious though.
I'm going to exclude use of the Ocarina glitch to skip a bit of the third library book.  It's far too risky, and I'll be over an hour into the run.  As well, I get 1 shot.  In ways, it's like the Lullaby skip (in MM).
Finished the Temple of Droplets route.  Pretty much the same as Greenalink's, but I'll be including the ice block puzzle skip and will use death abuse at the normal savewarp point.
I'll get the required red kinstone from on top of the school.  Adds a minute max, and takes out the luck manipulation.
Palace of Winds route remains unchanged (thankfully).
Dark Hyrule Castle will be very interesting.  The ocarina glitch will be used to skip the first part, though I can't grab the small key from that because it takes so long.  So I'll head upstairs, Ocarina glitch to grab the key from the ledge.  Jump down the ledge, then grab the key from the southeastern area (the one that you normally have to defeat darknuts to get).  From there, I'll continue normally, then grab the keys from the north corners, get the big key, kick Vaati's ass. Smiley

I think I may have found a new timesaver.  In the Temple of droplets, after revealing the first half of sunlight used to melt the ice, go back to the portal, and go down the stairs.  Use the ocarina glitch, and go down 2 screens.  Use the Ocarina (cancel glitch), grab the small key, continue on.

Don't think it would save more than a couple seconds (if at all), so I won't be including it even if it does save time.

If you are deathwarping, hearts can become more of a time waster than you think. You can't speed up bomb fuses, so you would want to take as much damage as possible from enemies as you make your way to the deathwarp. Skipping just the heart before the deathwarp, may be an option too...

But optimization on that kind of level may be better saved for latter in preparing for the SS...

Looking forward to all MC progress, especially SS!

There's very convenient cliffs very close to me, and I can easily take a lot of damage during the electric chuchu miniboss anyway.

The key for the last two dungeons is simply going to be survival, for those who are interested.  I'm going to be practicing them a lot more (in addition to practicing the ocarina glitch), because both have darknut battles (black darknut in HC can take off 3 hearts with 1 attack x_X) and chain trooper battles.  Especially in Hyrule Castle, where there is almost no health, so I basically have 8 hearts of health for the entirety of the castle.  Thankfully, there's a fairy I can pick up during Vaati's first phase, so health during Vaati will hopefully be a non-issue.

And then of course, I have to practice this all with a gamecube controller. >_>

You can't do the Ocarina glitch very well? O_o I get it 1/2 times, nearly 100% with a gamecube controller...

I'm up around 70% now. Smiley

For those of you who weren't watching, i recently lost a very good ss attempt during the book collection sequence (I forgot to talk to the librarian, best error ever).  The time was around 1:10 at the time of failure, I had already returned 1 book.  I was in health trouble for most of Castor Wilds and Wind Fortress, but both darknut battles were almost perfect.  I had to get a heart piece (costing around 30 seconds >_>) in order to stay alive.

On a side note: Cave of Flames is so fucking easy. Smiley
