steal the rod in real life is easy, just get the proper distance and mash the B, or activate turbo

Actually, stealing the rod in real life is quite difficult, as it is hard to hide the rod as you walk out of the fishing store. Furthermore, rods will often have magnetic bar codes that trigger an alarm if you try to leave without paying for them.

Can you just slash the crystal switch before hand or must you waste the bomb? Or can you avoid it completely?

Either way, although it requires an extra bomb, that looks faster than ZFG's method, because you don't have to pause to equip/deequip hover boots and equip/deequip BGS (we need MS for flare dancer).

You can just slash the crystal. I don't think you can avoid it outright, because every time I try to do so, I end up in the unloaded lava room.

Speaking of which, I managed to escape the unloaded lava room once by falling into a void, but I have no idea how I did it. When I tried to find the entrance to the void again, it seemed as if all of the walls were solid.
