Title: Site Issues? Please post here
Post by: mzxrules on September 27, 2009, 03:51:10 AM
If you happen to be looking through any of the sites, and find a page with broken links, spelling errors, or whatnot and don't feel like fixing it yourself, please post here. Simply post either a link to the page, unless it's one of the main pages, and someone will eventually fix it maybe.

Known site issues - October 6th, 2011

[!] The front page needs to be redesigned to add Ocarina 3d, Link To The Past, and Skyward Sword sites
[!] Images used for the side padding and top separator are missing from non OoT sites.
[!] Page CSS needs a bit of clean-up (header elements clash in some instances, like h2 and h3)
[!] We need a uniform guideline for making and editing pages, for consistency.
* The Version Differences page no longer has the fire temple songs
* No solution to the Google Chrome bug where it will auto play the two different Fire Temple Songs?

Unwritten Pages - October 6th, 2011

Many LTTP pages are stubs.

I hope this is the right topic for this.

I've mentioned this a few times in IRC and it still hasn't been fixed. I guess I'm the only one experiencing it.

In the "Account Related Settings" section under "Profile", I'm unable to change any of the settings. This is because when I put my password in, it says it's the wrong password. This is not true; I even changed my password to see if that would fix anything, and it didn't.

It's pretty annoying, because there are some settings in there I want to change. Hopefully we can get this sorted out.

I dont know if this is just me but when I use ZSR IRC the background is messed up. It repeats. after it says "ZeldaSpeedRuns.com" right after that it says "ns.com"

Anyone else have this problem?

Forgive me if I'm nitpicking or being critical, but I just noticed this:

Quote
Welcome to ZSR's Ocarina of Time section. See below for recent updates and news, or view this section's content in the expandable menu to the left. If you can't navigate the menu you need to install Java.
If you'd like to contribute content come to #zelda @ irc.speeddemosarchive.com (If you don't have an IRC client use this link).

From what I can tell, the menu on the left only uses some Javascript, which is not the same thing as Java at all.  Javascript is something that is usually supported internally by the browser, rather than being an external plugin or something similar.  Also, if they're using a browser made since like 1998, it probably supports Javascript.  In short, installing Java will have no effect on whether or not the menu works, since it uses Javascript (not Java).

Windows and the Internetexplorer don't come with Java(script) because microsoft didn't want to pay royalties anymore. The link points you to the Java virtual machine, which will also handle Javascript.
I suppose we could remove the link and probably don't loose a lot of users, but since we have that introduction text anyway and you also need the java VM for our web chat, it doesn't hurt to have it there.

Menu items in the OoT section are off from the new update I think. When you click bomb hovering it brings you to ISG, or something like that for most of them.

Sorry about that. I must have ran an older version of my updater on the OoT site yesterday which had a bug that caused page names to not match the proper link in some cases, and didn't notice the links were jumbled. I just ran the updater and everything seems fine now.

I discovered a few issues with the site that I don't know how to fix...

Let's say you have two tabs open, and you go the TP site in one, and the OoT site next with the other. If you click on the Admin link on the TP site, it takes you over to the OoT site's page because when you opened up an OoT page, the $game variable is overwritten.

In a few cases, the site doesn't handle invalid URLs in a proper fashion. For example, if you add anything after http://zeldaspeedruns.com/site/index.php?game=oot, it will try to load a site that doesn't exist, when it should instead throw a 404 or something.

the issue where the Bottle Adventure tab wasn't working is fixed. It's just one of the many issues we have with the updater, which in this case there were some empty folders in the content file for OoT

Also, on the Version Differences page, if you load it up in chrome it will automatically play the Two Fire Temple songs. From what I've read, the problem probably lies within the <embed> tag, which isn't supported by all browsers.

I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem, but when I type pm's and sometimes even simple replys, the scrolling gets messed up after passing a certain point. *bump*
In the site for MM there used to be lots of glitches posted on the site. But then they were redoing the site to make it better. OoT had the same things with updates, but not MM. Why is there fewer glitches and no updates on that part of the site?
Re-updating the site with both the old tricks and the newer ones that weren't previously on the site is a WIP that will probably take some time to complete. I know ZFG is working on the OoT section, and I thought Kaztalek was working on the MM section.

There's a problem with the login

For me, I click on 'Login' enter my user and password, click 'always stay logged in' and Enter, it gives me a blank page with a legit ZSR URL on the tab. I reload the page, and everything is fine. :-\

Also, (just for fun) type your username correctly, but your password incorrectly, and click 'Always stay logged in' or whatever, and Enter. now look at the 'minutes to stay logged in' box  ;D

Can someone please add sidebar/top-bar/bottom-bar graphics back to the MM page? I know some existed before the site redesign, but now they're gone, and the pages just look bad without them. I'm only asking because I'm working on the MM section over break, and I'd like it to look decent to people visiting the site. Hell, even Skyward Sword (http://zeldaspeedruns.com/ss/) has good-looking bar graphics on it, and we don't even have a link to it on the front page.

Admins can change nicks so you appear as Goldenboy and not Goldenboy2742 or whatever his old nick was, but they can't change the account name so you'll always be reminded of how stupid you were as a kid. Cosmo could theoretically mess with the tables by hand, but I doubt he'd care to do that.

Why, you want a different nick?

There's been a major glitch with trying to create new--and sometimes edit exiting--pages. Whenever a page is created/edited, it is sent to the OoT section and is impossible to remove to its proper section. Does anyone know how to fix this?

When clicking the "jump to last post" icon on forum topics, sometimes it doesn't actually jump to the very last post, and you have to scroll down. At one point, I'm pretty sure it was so off that it wasn't even the same page of the topic as the last post. I have no idea why.

Every time I login I have to type my password twice, as the first attempt always seems to clear the password before it checks it. The next time I enter it (the same exact way, no difference) it works.

This is really ridiculous. It happens every single time I login, and even though my password is entered correctly both times, It says it is incorrect the first time I try. Again, this makes no sense whatsoever.  ???

Links listed in preview mode have a different URL than on a live page. For example

[link here](tp/dungeons/lakebed-temple) will link as http://zeldaspeedruns.com/tp/dungeons/lakebed-temple in preview, but the live page URL will instead be something like http://zeldaspeedruns.com/tp/dungeons/tp/dungeons/lakebed-temple

Just a couple of spelling mistakes on http://zeldaspeedruns.com/oot/dungeon-tricks/spirit-temple-adult

Silver Block Skip Method 1 - Hover Boots
Once you are on the top aim towards the block. Put on hover boost and roll toward it.

Mirror Shield from Outside
Sidehop across the face of the left pillar, and shield once, then do a nuetral roll forward.

Speaking of the pages, could we get a little team together to update all of the non-N64 OoT pages? It would be nice to not have to go through pages of R&D to find out how to do a certain trick. Seriously, this needs to get done.

I'll just say that you've got your work cut out for you on OoT 3D ;)

The forum hasn't been able to send emails for about two months now, making it impossible for anyone to be approved automatically.

I've changed it so that new accounts must be approved for the time being.

I don't know if it's just me, but I can't log in to the leaderboards. I'll type in my name and pass, but the page will basically just refresh when I hit enter or click log in.

Do you have a ZSR account, not a ZSR forums one?

Yea, the ZSR forum accounts are separate from the ZSR site accounts. I think you have to talk to maxx to set up a ZSR site account.

I'm having the same problem as the poster above, I put my email address in and got the 'ERROR' screen.

The site is up for me, but when I look at it all of the "collapsed" links are out and overlap each other making navigation difficult, and none of the pictures or videos load properly on any page. I tried on both Chrome and Firefox. Here is a screenshot of how it looks.

Yeah, it's the same for everyone at the moment. Not sure why it's like that :/.

A temporary fix for the broken stuff on ZSR that I put together the other day http://cloudmodding.com/zsr/fix.html
Just follow the simple instructions on that page.
This is the piece of code that it runs:
Code:
javascript:$("head").html($("head").html().replace(/(stylesheets\/bootstrap(-select)?\.min)"/g,"$1.css\"").replace(/(javascripts\/bootstrap(-select)?\.min)"/g,"$1.js\""));void(0);
It fixes the broken bootstrap paths so that you'll be able to at least navigate the site.

Am I the only one having issues with the main site? These forums are fine, but it seems that the main URL (zeldaspeedruns.com) takes much longer than most other sites to load. Using the most recent versions of Opera, Chrome and Firefox show slow loading times. Even my Nexus 5 struggles to load the webpage.

Don't know if it's just me, but it was faster a couple weeks ago. Figured I should let someone know, just in case.

The site was just moved to a new host.

I know that. I just didn't think that would've been the problem. Although, maybe if it has something to do with making the initial connection to the website's server, compared to already being connected (first loading as opposed to browsing the site, I mean). I was just curious, it's a tad annoying but not a huge problem.

Damn this new technology, I have no patience anymore  :P

Has anyone else noticed that none of the images on the site are working anymore? Also, has anyone else been having trouble uploading videos to ZSR's youtube? I haven't been able to get anything to upload for months.

none of the images are "working" because we lost almost all of the images on the site a few months back when we were having server issues.

I think this is the right section to post about this.

When I go to "Edit Account" and put in new settings I get an error that says "Password doesn't match confirmation". I have checked several times by logging in and out and the password I am entering is correct. When I try to change my password it takes me to an error page, leaving me unable to change my password to try to resolve it. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but when I log out it takes me to an error page as well.

Internet's been out for a week...

Do you mean on the forums, or the front page site?

So this isnt the site specifically, but this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfP5ljrc36E (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfP5ljrc36E)) video has terrible quality. Im a big fan of having videos of the glitches but, this isnt the least bit helpful.

EDIT: Its fixed now. Thanks guys!

"Deprecated: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in /home/zeldaadmin/forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/Sources/Load.php(225) : runtime-created function on line 3"

On forums pages.

It happens quite often that the website is down and the default Heroku error page is shown.

I don't quite understand why ZSR doesn't use a custom error page. That page could display a decent error message and a link to let say speedrunslive or the ZSR twitter.

For more info about setting custom error pages: https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/error-pages

The website already uses S3 Amazon AWS so it would take a minute to set up.

Also all forums avatars are gone, and the icons for having a video and/or having a verified run under the "Status" column on the leaderboards are not showing up for me (on Chrome at least)

Also all forums avatars are gone

I am also not able to log in permanently any more. There are some PHP-errors visible however. Maybe the server can be configured in a way to use an older PHP-version just for the forum, which should solve the problems.
