Title: All dungeons, no damage
Post by: Cosmo on May 03, 2010, 09:21:18 AM
All dungeons no damage. It's too amazing to not have its own thread. Invented by Ringrush but the rules have been tweaked by Cosmo.

Rules:

  • You cannot take damage (ever drop below max hearts)
  • You cannot get a game over. You cannot be revived by a fairy.
  • Off limits items: Nayru's Love (damage protection). Double Defense (1/8 heart damage)
  • RBA is banned.
  • You must collect Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Light, Forest, Fire, Water, Spirit, Shadow, dispell trials barrier, beat Ganon.
  • You cannot ever save or savewarp. This is single segment only.
  • The entire run must be recorded or streamed for it to count as a completion.

This is amazingly challenging and rooms that you didn't even think about when playing normally have become nightmarish and intense.
There are amazing moments like when you get hit but have roll invincibility and don't take damage.

My attempts:

Attempt #1:
got Emerald, Ruby.
hit at Barinade (2nd phase lightning)
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/663244

Attempt #2:
got Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Requiem, Light medallion
hit at Forest Temple Stalfos (1st set), via jumpslash shieldpoke
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6641027

HALL OF FAME: (beat the game)
[empty]

attempt 5: forest temple, the last stalfos (i had requiem)
attempt 6: barinade, I did the third cycle too fast and he went underground and shot me with lightning which I didnt expect cause he didnt do that last time I sent him under
attempt 7: baba in deku tree trying to get nuts.

obviously you do worse if you keep trying in 1 sitting

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage

Attempt 1: Deku Baba in Deku Tree while trying to get nuts (just wasn't paying attention)

Attempt 2: Lightning bolt from Barinade in his last phase

Any hints for doing the tough parts? (Barinade, stalfos/wolvos, deku babas)

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage
Post by: Cosmo on May 08, 2010, 07:17:09 AM
Barinade strategy imo:

while strafing to the right, hit the 3 things to detach it from the cieling. after you throw the third one, get ready to move fast
the moment the rang returns to your hand, immediately throw it, in manual aim, at barinade. chances are it will stun the baris close to its body.

I pause at this point to confirm the hit

once it has been confirmed, I throw a deku nut. Then get ready to throw your rang again. Don't throw it as fast as possible, wait for barinade to actually get close to starting the next phase. if you hit it too early here it will submerge underground and chances are you will be dealing with lightning bolts.

when you hit it once it has started phase 3, once again use a deku nut to destroy the baris

final phase, simply strafe and throw rang until it is stunned. when stunned, deku jumpslash
now it will submerge. at this point, ROLL INTO IT so that you hit barinade with the tail end of your roll (roll invulnerability). you will fly back and make barinade resurface but it will not shoot lightning. then repeat this 2 more times and you win

-----

for the wolfos in forest temple, when you walk in, immediately hookshot the wall on the side so they dont spawn yet. when you reach the key they will have spawned, but you can safely jump -> roll towards the door and reach it without fighting the wolfos

-----

as for stalfos strategies, to each his own

I doubt anyone will get this. Try just doing Ganon's descent without taking a hit. Can you dodge flaming rocks on the ground, falling rocks from the sky, and kill 2 Stalfos without getting hit by any of those things atleast once? I'm out. It's doable, but is it worth it?

I've done this a few times believe it or not. After doing the escape so many times the only damage challenge is the Stalfos.

I have a question. Do we have to play using glitches, or can we play through it normally without any fancy stuff?

You can play normally if you want. All you have to do is beat all child dungeons, adult temples, and all trials. RBA isn't allowed.

Well i gave it a shot

#1 Attempt (route)

- Get sword 'n' shield
- Deku tree
- Skulltula hover (no vine clip since causes damage)
- Beat gohma
- Fairy ocarina
- went to gerudo vally
- cucco jump (got caught the first time i got over :S so went back again)
- gate skip
- Gerudo Dessert

and this is where i screwed up, i think it's a fun challange and i will give it more shots :D

I don't know if i should go to spirit temple right after, but after i played it i figured out, how the F... do i get out of the desert after i beaten the spirit temple. hahah so i guess that attempt was a big time failure :D

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage

Yeah, what we do is get Farore's Wind when we go to Jabu, and set it in the dungeon so that we can use it to warp away from the desert.

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage
Post by: ING-X on May 16, 2010, 03:01:11 PM
that farore's wind shit is the proest shit ever

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage

Yeah, what we do is get Farore's Wind when we go to Jabu, and set it in the dungeon so that we can use it to warp away from the desert.

Hmm, yeah i see, but well isn't it abit time consumeing?
I thought about going to jabu right after deku tree and at that point you won't have FW the reason is that the barrinade is the most difficult boss, and thats why i wanted to get rid of him as fast as possible, so i won't have do do a whole lot and then get hit from Barrinade :S
The bombchu's would be usefull though then you could skip saria's song entirely since you won't need gorons braclet to enter DC and backflip mido skip. (Correct me if im wrong :D)

#2 attempt (still trying diffrent routes)

- Sword 'n' Shield
- Deku tree
- Lake hylia
- Price upgrade (Golden Scale)
- Bottle
- Jabu
- to goron city
- light bombs (warp to lost woods)
- Warp LW
- Saria's song
- Goron's bracelet
- DC
- GJ to switch (Regular DC after that)
- Magic meter
- Owl Fly (kakariko)
- Early Well enter
- Chu's
- Learn SoT
- Went for DoT skip Framebuffered, but missed 2 frames and fell down :S, (Realized after that i didn't have hover boots and couldn't get out, so in a way i'm glad i failed -Tried to make it look cool since i recorded :D)

I just tried to defeat Ganons castle + trails and it's actually very easy the diffucult part is the falling rocks, i really never had any trouble with Stalfos

FW sound like a good idea i try that next time :D

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage
Post by: SD2 on May 17, 2010, 09:36:50 PM
If you had beaten all 3 child dungeons, why didn't you just play the SoT and open the door of time, bypassing the hover boots?

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage
Post by: Cosmo on May 17, 2010, 10:40:13 PM
You should definitely open the DoT, cause you will need the SoT anyway (after getting Hookshot)

Title: Re: All dungeons, no damage

Sorry i allready erased the run, i use an extern harddisk with all my video recordings and since im not recording with a dazzle, but with something else (a bit hard to explain what it is, well i guess it's some sort of dvd recorder) then i record the full 3megabites per sec from my gamecube and the run took about 5-6 hours you do the math

I don't really have the time right now to explain but, well since im going to try again after i'm done with boarding school and done with my Trip to USA then i will give it the last 3 shots, maybe i get it :D

Haha, yeah i know it sounds like just a bad joke xD
But don't worry i will upload the run when i get it. And now you almost push me to make the run but yeah expect it when i get back from USA

DONE!! ok maybe not exactly. I had a run already going that was no damage but it was segmented. and i didnt plan on positing it so i dont have video, but it definitely is possible.

Meh, until someone shows otherwise, the furthest anyone has gotten is the Forest Temple Bow room. None of this would hold any weight for new tricks, so it doesn't hold for this either.

Well i have some time now so i can just as well just post my adult route

-------------------------------------
Kakariko Village - Graveyard, Get shield and then go race dampe for hookshot - Gravyard again, bomb hover to Shadow Temple Early. Use Dins Fire to open for no damage.

Shadow Temple - Get Hoverboots, then go get one key and skip to Ferry, Get boss key, superslide over gab, ISG Bongo Bongo

Sacred Forest Meadow - GJ on top of maze

Forest Temple - Get key from first room + key from skulltula room (Set FW here). Get on platform by useing Hoverboots (From room to left). Get Bow and then FW to main room, BK skip to Boss

Fire Temple - (FW in 1st room) Normal platrough until Fire pillar room. Superslide to switch. and then normal to Megaton hammer. FW to first room, get BK normal way. and then Boss

Lake Hylia - Stand on spot to Hookshot and open Water Temple

Water Temple - (If possible FW dive if failed hoverboots fish dive) Lower water level to lowest. Do the sidehop Jumpslash trick to get on the second floor room for key. Then go down to the lowest level and collect the key down there. At the lowest water level go there where you need the longshot, Backwalk with hoverboots and make a backflip to pass. Normal way to BK. Use FW to get on top. Hammerslide to Boss. Collect Fire arrows after cutscene

Gerudo Vally – Hoverslide over bridge

Gerudo Fortress – Get on top of jail, and then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkwP5VqESZM

Spirit Temple –  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP30EUE8rGk (silver guantlets skip) and then the normal way for rest of temple

Trails – Basic. With a ISG when crossing invisible platform (Shadow Trail) and fire trail http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHgDftT9Zwo rest is normal.

Ganondorf – ISG if fails, normal way.

You see, it is possible. No doubts you just need the right route to avoid any unnessecary danger :D

Wuu!

Okay, here we go Single Segment, No damage MST
Finally did it!

I have the Raw recording, and i will get my new laptop in about 1week (So i can edit it)
so in about 7-8 days i will have it on youtube. I don't fell like writeing the route right now but, well go check it out when i uploaded it

Should i make a post commentary on this? (Would have done live, but i figured it would distract me + i don't have a headset right now.

Anyways good stuff, thanks Cosmo for starting this challange :D

The point of the challenge is to not use savestates or savewarps. There is not way to tell if you actually did this when playing on an emulator. It's not challenging or entertaining whatsoever to do this in segments or with savestates. It needs to be done on console in one sitting if you want anybody to believe you.

I guess you could stream the emulation and record that with Ustream.
