Title: TWW HD demo info
Post by: Cosmo on June 12, 2013, 12:19:01 AM
tomorrow and saturday if you live near one of these best buy locations you can play a demo of TWW HD
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Games-Promotions/Nintendo+Experience/pcmcat303600050002.c?id=pcmcat303600050002&DCMP=rdr107939

the demo contains two options
(http://i.imgur.com/0t7zxpj.jpg)

the outset demo gives you a bunch of items, but you have just received the clothes from grandma and can do outset events. you start with things like the bow, the wind waker, the sail, and access to korl.
the helmaroc demo puts you in the tower at the bottom. you have magic (but no leaf?) and skull hammer, many items.

i might go tomorrow and check out the demo. reminder though that OoT3D had a glitch patched out of it after Mitjitsu went and did ISG on a demo, so maybe we shouldn't upload stuff. it wouldn't be hard to discreetly test storage and cancel it immediately though.

more people playing it (mainly helmarock section): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=VGZPH1t6t5o#t=316s - be warned the guy barely gets out the water, only look at this for visual aspects or minor things like movement, he literally does nothing in the helmarock section other than swim.

One thing I noticed in one of the Hands On videos is that there's still that little burst of speed when you change from the fast sail to the normal sail.  So getting that boost is probably gonna be faster, and easier since you only have to press A.

I'm guessing this is just a 'change in translation between versions' thing, but in the developer direct, instead of saying "Fast" it says "High" when he's showing off gamepad only section.

Saw this on YouTube this morning, a text comparison, it really is a LOT faster, as the person demoing does not seem to be "mashing" to progress text like the original gameplay is.

Just some updates on what Zellpree found:
-No wind waker diving
-Sail pumping doesn't work
-Text is slow (scrolls fast but you can't cancel it until a second after)
-Movement is too sensitive and is bad
-Gyro for telescope sucks
-Soup glitch doesn't work b/c items are switched without pausing
-He didn't try zombie hovering but his friend did and it didn't work
-No cutscene skips
-C stick is inverted
-Freecam works like TP, where it moves behind link after a while and doesn't stay still
-You can still mash and cancel the wind waker repeatedly, so storage might still be possible with a rock or pot
-Ladder physics still suck

From what I've tested (my Best Buy was really poorly monitored) wind waker diving doesn't work, and the new method of storage doesn't work.

Ledge clipping SEEMS possible, but I couldn't get it to work like the Abahbob screenshot.

The game engine hasn't changed it appears, as it takes a heavy load very easily. The lag you get on Outset 2 and FF2 (due to the NA NA NAs) can be achieved simply by breaking 4 or 5 trees at the same time (I did this on outset). It seems like the new particles and shaders don't mesh well with abundance.

Soup glitch won't work because the menu is different.

I can try to go back and test the old method of storage (mashing wind waker and cancelling it every frame) if anyone really wants to know.

If superswimming is possible in this version, speed shouldn't be an issue, which will be great for swimming from DR to Bird's Peak and from Windfall to Outset.

Playing the game felt like playing a softmodded version of Windwaker, which was really nice. It genuinely felt like a better version for awhile. The bloom gets really tolerable after playing for a bit.

If I can't get storage to swim, I'm gonna try my hardest to manually do it for at least 10 frames to get a few inches of momentum, just to see if you can even build momentum. (It's very possible you can still turn 180 degrees every frame but you might not get launched backwards anymore)

If I can, I'll edit this post with secondary testing results.

I assume if you are using the pro controller then the menus will work like the original WW? If so soup glitch may still be possible?

Also I think they said you don't have to use the gyro for aiming so I don't think that would be an issue.

I played the helmaroc king portion. The nintendo guy was breathing down my neck and backseat gaming the entire time, so I didn't get an opportunity to go too far out of line and zombie hover or anything. All I noticed is that when you were fighting Orca, the symbol for the parry attack was changed from green to yellow. Also when link went into forsaken fortress for the helmaroc king cs, his sword was clipping through his hat and it looked really unfinished. I know minor graphical changes/glitches don't really matter, but that's all I got.

Wind waker diving from climbing up a ledge and using the turn around doesn't work. It may be possible to WW dive with the old method.

From what I tested is completely different from what everyone has said thus far. I DID get storage on Outset and I DID super-swim. I got the storage by mashing the Wind Waker and then cancelling 3 frames before the ground. I got it on the fence behind the tree in front of grandma's house. AKA the same storage method as we do right now. I super-swam out of the outset quadrant and the game hard-locked. My guess is that the rest of the game isn't there yet and the demo REALLY wanted you to stay in outset.

Also, i tested zombie hovering. The result was VERY good. I didn't get a FULL hover going because Helmrock hit me unexpectedly and didn't have a good place to mash. HOWEVER, i did get the grounded jump slash to start the hover. From that, I infer that you still can zombie hover.

I was dumb and didn't get video and/or picture evidence, however i will be going back on Saturday to get the desired evidence for my discoveries.

Might not be much, but a little thingy I didn't see anyone pointing out yet: It looks like Orca doesn't immediately knocks you down if you do a wrong sword attack, which might bring hopes for easier quick parries.

First things first:
I was making friends with the reps for the whole event, being a nice guy and all. I realize I was sort of showing off my knowledge of the game and telling them about all the ways I knew to exploit glitches. She told me later AFTER I HAD DONE SUPERSWIMMING that because the game crashed (didn't know where to send me after I drowned near where earth temple should have been) she had to report the crash. They might have reported everything I said, and I may or may not be the reason the glitches I talked about wont work at release. I nearly begged them not to report it because people playing the game normally would never find them. I had to try.

That said, I got storage on the fence near the woman with the pigs and got super swimming to work.

I tested the "new sail pumping" which made me go so fast there was a screen blur effect.

Orca's training seems more lenient in that he won't knock you down on your first mistake.

I played Outset twice and Helmaroc none. The inventory for outset includes Bow, Bait Bag, two red potions, the color pictobox and possibly another thing.
I saw that the Helmaroc inventory did not have deku leaf. There was the grapple hook, bow, and hammer, that's all I saw.

I think SOUP GLITCH may be possible by changing play mode to be on the game pad instead of the TV and doing it normally.

I tried ledge clipping, but I had never done it before. I must have done it wrong or something, because it didnt work.

There is a place in the menu to change the inversion of the c-stick for those that don't like it.

The game pad's gyro controls did feel weird, but they also felt like they were supposed to be that way. It was just strange.

I still have yet to test a couple things, and I get a couple tries Saturday to try again and actually get pictures.
I watched other players and no one wanted to test out the tingle bottles and whatever it does. What we know has no use for speed running, but we may find a hilarious glitch in the future involving them.

Why bother trying to be a nice guy to those Nintendo reps, you dont gain anything from that.

"I may or may not be the reason the glitches I talked about wont work at release."
Fucking amazing, this might become OoT3D again.

Oh and dont take pictures, that makes it suspicious and ill be sad if they get fixed. Try to get video and say its just gameplay to youtube, dont mention glitches and avoid crashing the game again, dont upload to youtube but instead somewhere else.

Alright. So I got to play this yesterday and, of course, I tested storage first. It did work. I got it where near Link's house on the cliff where the sand and grass are about to meet. Superswimming worked, but crashed after I drowned. Probably because it didn't know where to put me. Then I played Helmaroc. I think the soup glitch still may be possible but I doubt. it. Here's to hoping they don't patch it!

Title: Re: TWW HD demo info

Guys. WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW RIGHT THIS SECOND IF THE GLITCHES WORK. We can check all that shit once the game is actually out. We do not want to tip off Nintendo about any of this. So it completely boggles my mind that you would do something that is very obviously a huge glitch and has a very good chance of crashing the game, let alone telling the Nintendo reps about every glitch in the game. What the hell.

As for pictures/video - I can't stress this enough, DO NOT TAKE PICTURES OR VIDEO. Period. Ugggh. There's probably a decent chance all this stuff will be fixed in the final now.

Thanks for caring, wooferzfg1. I know it bothers you as much as it bothers me that I'm possibly the cause of it being fixed.

GC version still exists. Wiis are still being sold. Speed running is pretty underground anyway. Does it matter if we lose this iteration of the game to a tiny group of (one: me) nervous wrecks losing their spaghetti? Perhaps HD could simply be its own category. We don't know for sure until October.

I feel all the shame for this, and feel I need to restate that I practically begged them not to report and told them very clearly that someone playing through normally would never find them.

We don't know for sure until October.

Which is why frankly it's stupid to bother testing this stuff at all right now, especially when glitching the demo makes it less likely the glitches will make it to the final build.

Next time a Zelda game gets a remake and has a demo, can we just not test things until the game comes out? It's a lot of risk for no real reward. You guys aren't testing if the glitches work in TWWHD, you're testing if they work in this particular pre-release build of the game. They're still going to need to be checked when the game releases even if everyone was perfectly smart and discreet about it.

Holy hell you sound selfish; borderline narcissistic, even.

I know for a fact there are a ton of people like you who only went to the demo to say LOL LOOK WHAT I CAN DO to stroke your e-peen. If you really cared about the game, you'd bring a wingman or something to distract the rep while you discreetly test storage and then continue the demo, but you don't.

But if it was pointless, why was this info dump created?

Maybe to report things like "the models have changed, the sword animation is different, the rope animation is faster, the text boxes are faster, this cutscene is different" that aren't integral to speedrunning. This is more about the game and not about breaking it while it's still indev.

I dont really like how people bash Mitjitsu about the ISG video, i doubt he wouldve known it gets fixed like that and I believe it wasnt because of the video it was fixed, the second "fixed" NFR came pretty soon after the first NFR. The video itself has no mentioning about ISG (other than the description) and he doesnt even show how the glitch is done.

Why are people posting videos of glitches in WWHD already..

Okay, it's great to know that there are still glitches from the original WW, but it's not so smart to post videos about those glitches.
I mean, didn't you hear about the guy who posted the ISG from the OoT3D Demo? Please, don't let it happen again!

Im sure Miyamoto spends his time browsing youtube for glitch videos of demo zelda games. I mean, it's not like they already knew it was there for a long time and just fixed it after the first store demo ... RIGHT?!?!?!

I am sure they already know about these glitches.

It's just a matter of Nintendo deciding if it is worth the cost to fix them.

Anyone who is planning to play the demo tomorrow, can you set the game to off-tv mode and see if the game freezes up when you want to change items in a way similar to the console version?

"Storage doesn't work" - Recognized people from the community

"STORAGE WORKS OMG" - Randoms from Cosmo's chat.

This isn't hard to figure out, people.
Storage does work. I went to Best Buy and played it myself. I just hope they don't fix all the glitches.

This situation of not being able to trust people is kinda annoying, in order to prove it, you need video evidence but people dont want that to be done. So in otherwords you cant prove they exist. Seeing ZH still works im sure storage does too.

My mom works for nintendo. Trust me on this one, I would know.

All circlejerking aside, if they left in ZH, storage is likely still there, I'd just like to see some proof before people make lofty claims.

BUT...we can't show any proof or people will get angry and want to take off the video. It's an infinite loop. instead of arguing if it works or not, we should just trust the people who test it. It would make sense for the game to crash if you superswim somewhere else. But for now we should just wait till october...

OK, think about being a person in Cosmo's stream and you get to test this stuff and want to report your findings. Where would you go? Shouting it in the chat wouldn't help much, but then you remember this ZSR site so you go there. It would still be possible for a troll to do that, but seeing at least 3 people claim the same thing and one the other, it either means that the 1st person failed and the others did it right, or the 3 people are lying. Im sure the first possibility is more correct.

You're right, creating multiple accounts anywhere on the internet is impossible. I see the error of my ways.

I think he means, it's much more unlikely that somebody would go that far out of their way just to screw with people here, especially because most trolls would try to be annoying in a livestream chat where there are a lot of people rather than a forum that is already obscure to most speedrun viewers. Not saying it's not possible, just that it's unlikely, and it makes more sense to believe them IMO.

But I don't really care because I don't really care that much about TWW HD anyway LOL
I guess I'm just a little curious so I'm just lurking here.

I tried to be as subtle as possible. I was the first in line on Wednesday

storage and super swim works, I tried it on Saturday. The Nintendo Rep was barely even at the stand. The Best Buy manager asked if I was Cosmo, too. I look nothing like Cosmo though

EDIT: oh, someone already posted my link

The crash that has been mentioned (if true) would come from superswimming out of the quadrant, as it would attempt to load other islands that may or may not be on the disc. And what happens if you try to load something that doesn't exist?

It seems that from this image that the first wallet holds more than 200 rupees this time(or the rupee color doesn't change when you upgrade it)

it seems like charts have been completely replaced by shards. so in a speedrun this would be 20-30 minutes faster.

New screenshots. Less bloom, smaller HUD. Nice improvements IMO.

EDIT (unconfirmed): Somebody told me that they saw a comparison video between the English and Japanese versions of TWWHD and they said English text is faster. English text scrolls by words while Japanese scrolls by characters I'm assuming. I can't find a video, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But interesting.

Gamescom 2013 update:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iT13e6KYrQ&feature=youtu.be&t=2m20s

"According to a rep at my demo, the Swift Sail can be acquired at the auction house after completion of the first dungeon..."

The Swift Sail can sail at any direction at MAX speed regardless of the wind direction. So pure glitchless runs are faster on TWW HD for sure.

"There’s also an enhanced first-person camera which now allows for full movement in that perspective." So you can walk around and aim in first person mode.

Five Triforce pieces can now be grabbed directly, and only the remaining three will require translated charts. - Notable drop for rupees required.

Hero mode exists as soon as you start of the game by turning it on or off on the file select screen. - Based on Skyward Sword and not OoT Master Quest.
Also no hearts drops which also means R.I.P Helmoroc King skip via Zombie Hover on Hero Mode.

"and those pictures can live on Miiverse. But Link can also take funny self-photographs" - Where is the Kreygasm face that you can take if you go OoB?

"it’s no longer possible to accidentally skip Tingle’s island, as the developers have inserted an introduction to the quirky character into the main quest."

Woah, the wind direction changes when you use the fast sail. That's pretty legit. Wind's Requiem skip incoming?

Post by: wooferzfg1 on August 24, 2013, 03:25:17 AM
Wind's Requiem skip incoming?

Still need it for leafing and for getting Triforce Shards/Charts. Also the fast sail is acquired from the auction, which is likely very slow.

A new trailer for the North-American and Europe versions. It seems the HUD is optional and the first wallet holds more than the 200 rupees that we have now. Also, firing bombs from the boat has been changed (I think you have to press the cannon button, then A to fire).

The atmosphere and the lighting in FF looks beautiful btw

Why wouldn't glitchless runs be faster than before? Swift Sail doubles your speed. Definitely would make glitchless runs a lot faster.

One of Zelda Universe's editors apparently has a full copy of Windwaker HD, and they've mentioned a few things about it.

  • The boat cannon shows the trajectory of the Bomb like in Skyward Sword.
  • The Windwaker's beat does not start until you play the first note.
  • After learning a song for the first time, if you play a song with the Windwaker it will not repeat, meaning wind changing will be faster.
  • The Hero's Charm has been moved to be the reward for completing the Savage Labyrinth, while the Heart Piece that was there has apparently moved to Paw Island
