Title: Hori mini controller
Post by: drseatbelt on January 30, 2012, 08:47:19 PM
Can anyone comment on how well these work for the zelda games? they seem to be miles ahead of the original controllers (which gave me blisters back in the day because of the joystick)

It seems to be fine for OoT, but from my experience (IDK if my hori is just borked or not) it seems to have issues with diagonals on MM, i.e. pressing forward will invariably make you run forward and to the left (which does happen on normal 64 controllers but only if they're really worn out).

Always stay with original controllers! No matter what! Those third part controllers are always bad and they doens't work long at all! They always suck aaasss!!!! Always love original Nintendo hardware!!!

Ok, as it turns out, the issue is caused by a missing screw on the back of the control stick on some horis, causing the stick to be slanted downward the tiniest bit on the side that is missing the screw. I took my hori apart and removed the screw (I couldn't find a second screw that would fit, I think the little "spirals" inside the hole are also missing) so that it was balanced and it works fine now. However, I think it's inferior to the original N64 controller for the N64 zeldas (at least MM) since it's a lot harder to hold the hori stick in one exact spot for a long time.
