Title: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Paraxade on December 09, 2011, 06:55:02 AM Kay so I'm starting a test run. I was itching to try running this game, plus I want an idea of how long this game is for a run and I want to get some strats out there for every little part of the game. Anyway since this is just a test run and the game only came out a couple weeks ago, chances are I'm gonna be half-assing this. I expect to miss a lot of little things, which is why I'm doing it in the first place. :P

Horde Battle & Ghirahim (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0iCDJJwCOw) Segment 77 - Demise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_c-xds8cX4) Final Time: 6:23:20 Known improvements: -Skyview Temple (Segment 6): The spider in front of the small key can be knocked off its thread with a skyward strike -Skyview Temple (Segment 7): It should be possible to kill the spider without using a finishing blow -Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Jump slightly to the side after pushing the box off the ledge so you don't land on it -Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Sidehop after shooting the crystal switch with slingshot -Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Use the ropes to get back after the boss key instead of going on the tightrope again -Skyview Temple (Segment 8): Hit the crest from further back -Skyview Temple (Segment 8): It's technically better to save at the prompt instead of the statue, but it's such a small difference that it may not be worth it -Earth Temple (Segment 14): Pick up less bombs. You need 2 bombs to defeat Scaldera optimally and you need 5 until you can get a 10 bomb refill later in Lanayru in segment 18. -Lanayru Desert (Segment 17): Make the bomb go off faster; either hit it with something or light the fuse earlier -Lanayru Desert (Segment 17): Activate the Timeshift Stone from the side to skip the text with the robot and Fi. -Lanayru Mining Facility (Segment 21): The sand room has a shortcut where you can jump over the spikes to get to the switch faster; however, it needs to be done very fast to save time, is difficult to do quickly without getting hit, and saves very little time -Second Skyloft Visit (Segment 27): You can dive right off the Tower of Light instead of jumping down to the wooden platform. -Lanayru Caves (Segment 38): It's faster to go through the desert to reach Lanayru Caves instead of going to the sky and dropping back down. -Bombs (Segment 38): Don't bother refilling bombs. At this point you only need one bomb (in Skipper's Retreat) before a bomb refill is available in Pirate Stronghold. -Fire Sanctuary (Segment 52): It's possible to hit the frog mouth from the bottom floor instead of going up. -Bokoblin Base (Segment 66): Sidehop to the lower ledge before the first bokoblin. -Bombs (Segment 68/Segment 74): Make sure you finish Bokoblin Base with at least one bomb. There's a bomb flower right next to the Adventure Pouch. The bomb speeds up killing the Cursed Bokoblins in Sky Keep by a lot. -Sky Keep (Segment 74): The Iron Shield Moblins can be pushed off the ledge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW9ucysnCRg) instead of killing them normally. -Sky Keep (Segment 75): Take the timeshift orb up the hill with you instead of dropping it then running across the room to the hill. Potential improvements: -Rupees (Segment 1/Segment 9/Segment 21): It's probably faster to get the 40 rupees in the cave crawlspace instead of the two red ones I got (one from a bird in a flying sequence, one from a Hydra in LMF) -Faron (Segment 4): Test whether it's faster to get the Kikwi in the hole first rather than last -Skyview Temple (Segment 7): May be better to knock the last spider off with the beetle instead of hitting it with a skyward strike -Scaldera (Segment 14): Should be possible to kill Scaldera much faster by replacing one of the normal swings with a Skyward Strike. First cycle would be the easiest, but might need to be done on the third cycle to prevent Scaldera from going to phase 2 too early. Needs confirmation. -Lanayru Mining Facility (Segment 22): Possible faster cart sequence break by putting the bomb to the left of the cart instead of the right and then jumping onto the right side, so you can jump off earlier onto the gust bellows platform Check video descriptions for individual segment and total times. Timing is done from the first visible frame after file load to the last frame before the "save" option is selected at the bird statue. I'll probably attempt my own segmented (or single segmented, I'm not sure yet), sometime after Christmas. Good luck! Also, do you try all different dialog options while doing test runs of each segment? It would be a good time to do so, as you probably end up doing each segment a few times before you get a time you're happy with. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 09, 2011, 09:06:51 AM Probably going to redo seg 1, I didn't realize that the game prompts you to save before the race lol <_< Would obviously be better than saving at the statue.
edit: redone, will edit into the first post tomorrow. any suggestions where the 50 rupees for the beetle upgrade are going to come from? I don't remember if there's any rupees that are right in the way. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: CloudMax on December 09, 2011, 10:18:55 AM Probably going to redo seg 1, I didn't realize that the game prompts you to save before the race lol <_< Would obviously be better than saving at the statue. edit: redone, will edit into the first post tomorrow. any suggestions where the 50 rupees for the beetle upgrade are going to come from? I don't remember if there's any rupees that are right in the way. I think there's a jar next to the bazaar that gives you 40 rupees. There is also 50 rupee chests, but it takes a long time to open chests. I can look around for good rupee sources later today. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 09, 2011, 10:19:37 AM there's a 20 atop one of the posts in the shrine behind skyview. There are also many 20s in the holes on the outer wall of the main room (im sure there are chests elsewhere faster to get though). There is a rupee chest behind a wall in the cave area in eldin that has all those fire breath things in it, just after you get the mitts/same place you get the rupee dowser. Also I wouldn't be surprised if certain dig holes guarantee large rupee drops.

There is a rupee chest behind a wall in the cave area in eldin that has all those fire breath things in it, just after you get the mitts/same place you get the rupee dowser. Also I wouldn't be surprised if certain dig holes guarantee large rupee drops. There is some dig spots that gives like 30-40 rupees in total, but such holes are usually a bit out of the way.It would be better if they are located in places that we run right by. The fastest rupee chest I can think of: Red rupee chest inside the skyloft cave. You run right by it. There is also 2 red rupees in the crawl spot at the end of the cave if I remember correctly. that'd give us 40 rupees and the two combined should make it worth the few seconds it takes, especially since you can roll into the crawl spot. so these 40 rupees, and then 10 more which you probably can get randomly from enemy drops, or maybe just a jar that you run by. Or we could just open the chest and take the 2 red rupees in the crawl spot and we have 60 rupees before we even leave skyloft, and we only loose a few seconds. I still think it'd be a better idea to just get the last 10 from random drops though. I do not think there is any rupees that you can get faster than those 40, but I'll take a look anyway. Okay, so there is a 100 rupee chest that takes about 20-25 seconds to get. But because of how long it takes, it isn't useful, sadly. The chest is located in the cave where you get the mitts. The fire maze room. You blow up a wall next to the mogma that teaches you to dowse for rupees. This may be useful in 100% though.. And you even walk past the guy that teaches you to dowse for rupees, which may or may not be a part of 100%. That discussion does not belong in this thread though. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 09, 2011, 11:44:33 AM lol that is the chest I was talking about.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 09, 2011, 12:46:32 PM Rolling into trees often gives away 5 or 10 rupees, also there's rupees you can collect thanks to the beetle in skyview temple :p for example in crates.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: CloudMax on December 09, 2011, 12:48:51 PM Rolling into trees often gives away 5 or 10 rupees, also there's rupees you can collect thanks to the beetle in skyview temple :p for example in crates. Those rupees takes a long time to get. I'd say we get the rupees in the first cave in the game, those are probably the fastest. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 09, 2011, 01:00:51 PM Actually I thought of something, there are these two 3-headed kind of dragons in skyview temple, which each drop 20 rupees. You have to kill them in order to open the door to continue, so that's 40 less rupees to get.
edit : Apparently there's only one of these hydras when you first do skyview temple (there are two when you come back but you don't have to fight them cause you opened that door between main room and boss door room). Well that's still 20 easy and fast rupees. If you don't beat em with full life they apparently leave a heart though. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 09, 2011, 01:49:19 PM That hydra is probably faster than the crawlspace one in the skyloft cave.
Also now you mention it there are 2 of those hydras at the start of LMF. IIRC you don't need to return to the sky between getting the hook beetle and entering LMF, so these 3 hydras should be the fastest possible red rupees before speed beetle. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 09, 2011, 02:00:25 PM I also thought of these two, they're fast to kill if you aim well, and die fast iirc, so yeah. Also you can't upgrade beetle before completing LMF I think, so anyway I think that's prolly the fastest way.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: mzxrules on December 09, 2011, 03:30:00 PM Thought Lizafos dropped 20 rupees as well?
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 09, 2011, 04:08:53 PM Only thing the Lizalfos always drop is the tail iirc. Could be wrong though.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: aleckermit on December 09, 2011, 05:07:11 PM Very glad you're doing this Parax, I have a lot of little timesavers in my head so I'll let you know if you miss anything.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 09, 2011, 07:32:38 PM Wow, didn't expect to see so many new posts here.
Updated Segment 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6RRY5z6y28) I'm not getting the rupees in the cave because I really don't want to redo segment 1 again. If it turns out they're the fastest then it's just gonna have to be something for a real run to do. The hydras sound promising though. Aren't there some rupees in a few required crawlspaces? Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: AniMeowzerz on December 09, 2011, 09:24:18 PM Only thing the Lizalfos always drop is the tail iirc. Could be wrong though. They drop tail 100% of the time but they can drop something else with it as well. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 10, 2011, 12:30:56 AM Yeah that is what I was trying to say. Just that the something else isn't always the same thing.
Parax just get the hydra ones, they should be at least on par with the cave rupees speedwise. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 10, 2011, 03:13:52 AM Segment 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3LdWf-ZguY)

I need to know so I know whether to waste time breaking them in the next segment.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 12, 2011, 12:51:32 AM I vaguely remember someone complaining they had to do the full skyview temple 2nd time because they forgot to open the shortcut, so I assume not.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 12, 2011, 01:23:43 AM that sounds more like the iron gate near the end. the first couple rooms really aren't a big deal at all. also, the wooden gates are gone if you go in without opening the door so that implies it changes in the second visit.
Segment 5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPAJ4E7PKRs) edit: looked at TOO's run, looks like I don't have to waste time with the gates Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 12, 2011, 06:53:35 AM Nice job so far ! Go go sub 8, if not sub 7 :D
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 12, 2011, 10:54:56 AM The Hydra in skyview doesn't drop a red rupee.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 12, 2011, 12:10:59 PM Wut. How many times did you try it ? I remember getting red rupees all the time from hydras through the game, I thought this one would give one too.
Well anyways there's 4 in LMF I think (2 in the cross-shaped room, I think second room, and two in the room with the first "fan-on-the-head" monster) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: CloudMax on December 12, 2011, 12:49:52 PM Wut. How many times did you try it ? I remember getting red rupees all the time from hydras through the game, I thought this one would give one too. Well anyways there's 4 in LMF I think (2 in the cross-shaped room, I think second room, and two in the room with the first "fan-on-the-head" monster) Is it fastest to kill two hydras that you don't even have to kill, than entering the crawlspot? It can't take THAT long to enter the crawlspace Running up to two hydras, killing them, and waiting for the rupee should take longer than that? Also, when you take the rupees in the crawlspot you don't have to watch the small cutscene with link holding the rupees over the head, right? If you do it on the hydras you'd have to watch that once. I really think that the crawlspace is faster since it is two red rupees. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 12, 2011, 06:49:15 PM That's right.
I also thought of a silver rupee in dungeon 2 that you can get with the beetle (it's in some small hole in the tunnel you have to cross with the stone ball) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 12, 2011, 09:44:04 PM Yeah the crawlspace is probably better, but that's in segment 1 which I already did so I need a different spot.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 12, 2011, 09:50:49 PM Well I guess the two hydras in LMF are not too bad, they're rather fast to kill with a good technique. There's also the silver rupee in second dungeon but I don't know how much time it takes to get it...
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 13, 2011, 02:26:39 AM You don't have to see rupee text from hydras, the only rupee text in this game is from chests/prizes. I'm not saying 2 hydras are faster than the crawlspace though, just clarifying a point.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 13, 2011, 04:03:39 AM ^ Actually there's rupee text for every kind of rupee, including green ones, the first time you pick them up. They just don't reset every time you restart the game like in TP. I've had a few attempts ruined by picking up a green rupee by accident.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: EverAlert on December 13, 2011, 05:09:17 AM Ah my bad, the logic behind some of the design choices in this game confuse me to no end. x_x
I take it it does reset when you make a hero file though? Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 13, 2011, 07:08:41 AM Yep.
Segment 6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFvAKWOTFiA) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: CloudMax on December 13, 2011, 08:56:18 AM In the second visit of skyview, isn't the wood wall shortcut in the beginning the only possible path you can take? Isn't the other door locked down entirely?
I am pretty sure that they despawn. If they don't, then just blow them up with bombs, that should be faster than removing them during the first visit. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: aleckermit on December 13, 2011, 03:47:54 PM Seg 6 was great. You can actually cut that hanging spider's thread with a skyward strike right before the two eyes balls and key, although it's really picky.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Abahbob on December 13, 2011, 11:54:25 PM Are the silver rupees underwater in ancient cistern worth getting? Those shouldn't take very long, but they are kind of late for the beetle upgrade.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 14, 2011, 04:52:48 AM Yeah, that's too late. I need the rupees by the time I get scrapper fixed.
I'm pretty sure I can grab at least 40 rupees from hydras in LMF without really losing any time. Would prefer to get another 10 somewhere else so I don't need to waste time with a third, but really I think I'm good on rupees. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Tamis on December 14, 2011, 09:29:55 AM In LMF too there are rupees behind the statues you make fall with bombs (the basketball thingies), and there are some you have to make fall (at least one). I think there's 5 rupees here ;D
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: CloudMax on December 14, 2011, 09:41:37 AM In LMF too there are rupees behind the statues you make fall with bombs (the basketball thingies), and there are some you have to make fall (at least one). I think there's 5 rupees here ;D Getting those rupees inside of the dungeon doesn't seem to be that fast. (I can't remember statues that have 5 rupees behind them in the dungeon. at least none that you have to destroy. maybe there is one that I can't remember) I'd recommend getting rupees behind the statues at the desert. I'm pretty sure that there should be one or two statues.. can't remember for sure. There may also spawn some rupees from boulders that you blow up at different places in the desert. And in the future, I think the fastest method of getting rupees will be the crawlspace in the beginning. But he obviously doesn't want to redo the entire run. There is also rupees right outside the bazaar itself in the jars. I think the drop in those are random though.. They drop like 5-10 rupees or something. takes a few seconds to take. There is probably A LOT of 5 rupee spawns pretty much everywhere that we just don't remember from the top of our heads. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Abahbob on December 15, 2011, 03:13:53 AM Rolling into bushes in the desert can drop 5-20 rupees. Iirc they are location based 100% of the time in some places. Saves time from slashing sword at grass, but I'm not sure if there are any in the direct path...

Isn't killing spider first in the room with 3 eyes faster? You start climbing up the vine during the cutscene of the door opening. It probably makes almost no difference at all, but it may be faster? I'm not really sure. And when you push down the box, you can just jump slightly to the sides so that you won't land on the box. Activating the switch to raise the water before entering the room should be slightly faster, and it would make the segment less of a pain, since you could just restart if you did bad on that trick. In the room with the boss key, when you shoot on the switch to open the gate, you can also shoot down 1 vine in the room while you're at it. (or when you're on the log at the top, so that you're at least moving while shooting them) After the boss key, use the ropes to get back to the boss door. Also, was it really faster to use the skyward strike on the spider, instead of just using the beetle? I am aware that it is possible to do it faster the way you did it, but most of the times you end up loosing time while doing it. Segment 8: Autosave instead of using bird statue. I know, it makes the next segment a pain since you have to talk with the kikwi every attempt, but this is faster. Take the heart container. If you don't, you have to re-watch the cutscene during your second visit. Most of these things are very minor, but it is something that people could do when they're making an actual run. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on December 17, 2011, 01:48:15 PM Isn't killing spider first in the room with 3 eyes faster? You start climbing up the vine during the cutscene of the door opening. It probably makes almost no difference at all, but it may be faster? I'm not really sure. I killed the spider then because I was already right next to it since I was pushing the box. Quote Activating the switch to raise the water before entering the room should be slightly faster, and it would make the segment less of a pain, since you could just restart if you did bad on that trick. Nope, it'd actually be better to make the shot when I did and then sidehop into the water before the cutscene so you don't have to wait while Link surfaces. I didn't do it because it meant missing the switch at all killed the segment. Quote Autosave instead of using bird statue. I know, it makes the next segment a pain since you have to talk with the kikwi every attempt, but this is faster. barely. not worth it. Quote Take the heart container. If you don't, you have to re-watch the cutscene during your second visit. I was aware of that. I didn't take the heart container because it would make deathwarping slower. Even just one extra heart means it'll take 4 hits instead of 3 to die. i don't think rupees are an issue anymore. I got a red rupee in segment 9, i'll be picking up a few blues in segment 12, and if there aren't another 15 right in the way then I'll just grab one from a hydra in LMF which wouldn't really cost me any time. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Mitjitsu on December 18, 2011, 02:10:05 PM In Segment 8, after the cutscene at the top of the stairs finishes. I didn't take the heart container because it would make deathwarping slower. Even just one extra heart means it'll take 4 hits instead of 3 to die. but more hearts (especially on hero mode) is a good thing. even if deathwarping at MAX hp takes longer. You can plan your damage. There are quite a few bomb spots that are sped up by attacking the bomb. thats a quick 2 hearts that do not replenish. i am pretty certain that AT LEAST the skyview one is beneficial to get. Also, how do you do the horde battle without getting absolutely owned in hero mode? I found that so much damage was quite hard to avoid. its easy to die to it without a fairy. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: fury on January 07, 2012, 12:52:48 AM I registered just to say thank you for posting your run. I have always had a fascination with speed runs, and Zelda series in particular. Especially this game because of how frustrating it is to play even casually- it must be 10 times as maddening to speed run it!
(you could hear me muttering under my breath every few minutes something along the lines of "my dear friend Motion Plus, thank you for not swinging my sword the way that I swung it, I very much appreciate and prefer dying." except with slightly more cussing) I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of it, the final time, and whatever becomes a "real" run if this is only the test! Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Abahbob on January 07, 2012, 01:08:17 AM Well welcome to ZSR! Yeah Parax is a god at this game. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on January 07, 2012, 03:39:31 AM Thanks :P I'm actually not having THAT much trouble with the motion controls, they're mostly only an issue on fights with little room for error like Stalmaster.

Maybe you can rehearse and make sure exactly how Links sword swings his sword compared to the Wii remote wawing. You may also check how your position/angle towards the TV and sensor bar is, to assure optimization. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Matt23488 on January 10, 2012, 05:19:18 PM sensorbar isnt even needed so its definetly the sensor bar. Might I ask, why you often recover only 1/4 of stamina? If you notice, when the stamina bar gets to 1/4 left, it starts draining slower, which makes that the fastest way to travel on foot. I didn't realize that either until Parax pointed it out. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Paraxade on January 10, 2012, 08:21:27 PM What Matt said. Also, the sensor bar actually does matter. If you aren't sitting right in front of the sensor bar then you'll notice that the motion controls screw up a little. It's most noticeable when you're using the beetle and finding it just about impossible to move straight.

Bombs do a lot of damage to this guy (two explosions is enough to end the first phase). What if you were to rip all his arms of, roll a bomb in when he starts his chakram throw, run in after the bomb, land a few quick hits and then detonate the bomb? might be enough damage for it to work. Still don't have my disk of the game otherwise I'd download a save and try myself, so just putting this out there since skipping the one arm regeneration cutscene is pretty desirable in a speedrun.

Its a tricky maneuvre which involves hanging off the ledge and knocking them off via a collision boost.

Mitjitsu: Any chance you can get a video? Segment 76 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0iCDJJwCOw) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Hakutri on January 19, 2012, 05:52:45 AM Oh okay, didnt notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. Also thought, that Sensorbar isnt needed. I played without it and didnt notice any difference, so i thought its not necessary at all. Wrong again :D. Well the sensor bar's only function is that it is constantly recalibrating the Wii remote as your hands shift position, the sensor bar has no affect other than that on your movement and pointing which is controlled entirely by the Wii motion+ and the sensors in the Wii remote. Things like pointing at the screen are gauged entirely by how much your Wii remote is tilted in relation to its "neutral position" which the sensor bar gauges and readjusts. That is why if you are facing left the sensor bar will determine that to be your new "neutral position" to be facing left, and then as you tilt the Wii remote up/down/left/right the cursor on the screen moves in that direction even though the actual controller is pointing in a different direction. Occasionally the sensor bar doesn't readjust quickly enough or has issues, in which case you can recalibrate it manually(minus on d-pad) but other than that there is no need for it. Hurray, part 76 is here! Good job with the test run so far it's been really entertaining Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: fury on January 19, 2012, 12:35:05 PM Home stretch! Great stuff
How'd you get that beetle upgrade? :P Well the sensor bar's only function is that it is constantly recalibrating the Wii remote as your hands shift position, the sensor bar has no affect other than that on your movement and pointing which is controlled entirely by the Wii motion+ and the sensors in the Wii remote. Things like pointing at the screen are gauged entirely by how much your Wii remote is tilted in relation to its "neutral position" which the sensor bar gauges and readjusts. Occasionally the sensor bar doesn't readjust quickly enough or has issues, in which case you can recalibrate it manually(minus on d-pad) but other than that there is no need for it. Is there a way to do that minus button centering with the sword? Hitting minus on the aiming screen for the beetle or something is easy and quick so I don't mind having to do it as often as I do, but it doesn't seem to center the sword. When the sword is out of whack, the only way I've found is I have to point at the sensor bar, keep it steady, wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, ah, there, finally the thing centers the sword. And by that time I'm usually hit 2-3 times while waiting for my sword to right itself.Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Wiimote is an original Wiimote with the addon Motion Plus. Are the new Wiimote Plus integrated remotes better at keeping calibration? (I really don't want to spend another $40 just to find out) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Mitjitsu on January 19, 2012, 04:49:19 PM Mitjitsu: Any chance you can get a video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW9ucysnCRg&feature=youtu.be If you really wanna be pro, you might want to try and knock both of them off the ledge by using the ledge shield boost. Sadly, I was only able to do it once in a timely manner withing my 2 hous of attempts and ran out of memory midway through capturing that attempt. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Matt23488 on January 19, 2012, 05:51:13 PM Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Wiimote is an original Wiimote with the addon Motion Plus. Are the new Wiimote Plus integrated remotes better at keeping calibration? (I really don't want to spend another $40 just to find out) This could be the issue, I have been using the gold Wii Remote + that came with the game, and when I point at the sensor bar, it is pretty much instantaneous calibration. And yes, pressing minus while aiming or on the map screen doesn't fix the sword, which is annoying :/ Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run Post by: Hakutri on January 19, 2012, 06:09:35 PM I don't know any way around not being able too press minus because of Fi talking. Normally if I need to I just press C to go into first person and then press minus quickly and then go out of 1st person with a sword swing. Alternatively you could always pause the game and recalibrate it(but seriously, no one would go through the trouble). I have heard people say there may be an issue with the motion add-on to the pre Wiimotion+ controllers, but I don't have any evidence backing that and don't know if I buy some of the stories, but there could possibly be a problem with it.

Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: ArthurDent on January 20, 2012, 08:20:07 AM Congratulations with your world record! I've not been to youtube for some days, and I got a nice suprise that you finished it. It's amazing to see sub 7, that's 1h47m shorter than the live run! Only 2 monhs afte the game came and it's done in such a time.
do you have a playlist of all the segments? Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Paraxade on January 20, 2012, 08:57:12 AM not so far, youtube won't load my playlists. hopefully i'll get one soon.

Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: UchihaSasuke on January 21, 2012, 08:09:50 PM congrats parax on beating the game this fast.
good to see the game reduced to speedrunnable times. sub 6 looks possible with more speed tricks and with BiT looks pretty easy to do. surprising that this game ended up being shorter than TWW (considering the early runs of the game) Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Swiffy on January 22, 2012, 04:50:56 AM I don't really have the means to watch this run right now, so I have a quick question. Is there any reason you need any rupees throughout this run? I've read that upgrading the beetle was worthwhile, but any use for rupees otherwise?
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Hakutri on January 23, 2012, 03:08:30 AM I don't really have the means to watch this run right now, so I have a quick question. Is there any reason you need any rupees throughout this run? I've read that upgrading the beetle was worthwhile, but any use for rupees otherwise? The Beetle upgrade is the only thing he needs rupees for. In a 100% run you would need rupees for other things(to play the pumpkin arrow shooting game, to get a bug net, etc), but if they ever actually need a large amount of rupees then they could just go to the nightshop and sell stuff. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Paraxade on January 24, 2012, 07:54:01 PM ^ It makes no sense to me to go way out of your way to visit the night shop so you can sit through long dialogue for rupees when there's tons of them right in the way and you don't even need that many anyway.
Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: Hakutri on January 25, 2012, 05:49:00 AM ^ It makes no sense to me to go way out of your way to visit the night shop so you can sit through long dialogue for rupees when there's tons of them right in the way and you don't even need that many anyway. Obviously in an %any run where there's hardly any rupees to collect the night shop's dialogue is way too long. In a 100% run though, based on the definition, you would potentially need an enormous amount of rupees for all the wallets, medals, upgrades, etc, and in hero mode you can fill up a wallet of any size with one visit just because you can start out with as many goddess plumes/gold skulls/etc as you need. It may not work out that going to the shop at any point in that route would make sense, but it may possibly be worth it if, for instance, you max out your wallet, use all that money to purchase wallet upgrades, and while in town visit night shop to fill up that wallet and then purchase more items, or do some other thing in order to eliminate making multiple trips. Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: ArthurDent on January 30, 2012, 08:56:54 PM About Skykeep, I assume you've done your best to find best route, but it seems to me the rearrangement is a bit excessive. Maybe since you do it fast, I probably move the rooms a lot more around.
Since this time being achieved on hero mode, I'm curious just how much time the cutscenes would take. Would be quite some part of the whole playing time. And how is the playlist doing? Title: Re: Any% Seg'd Test Run - FINISHED: 6:23:20 Post by: TimpZ on January 30, 2012, 10:25:27 PM I have just watched half the run and I just wondered: Why only let the stamina gauge refill up to ~1/4? There's a refraction period after you stop sprinting before it refills so to minimize the percentual time there's a refraction I'd assume you should let it fill as much as possible before next sprint. At least when you're running a long way...
Am I missing something? If you notice when you first start running the stamina meter goes down fairly quickly, but once you get down to the last 1/4 the speed of its decreasing slows down. All the rearrangement and backtracking is necessary so I can skip the earth temple room.

If you notice when you first start running the stamina meter goes down fairly quickly, but once you get down to the last 1/4 the speed of its decreasing slows down. I was sceptical so I decided to do some sciency-stuff. I ran the distance from the rail to the shattered mirror thing (twilight? Idk no spoilers please) in the temple of time 3 times using 2 methods: Stamina meter completely fill up and fill up 1/4th. Results: 1:37.7 for letting the stamina meter fill up completely between dashes 1:37.0 for letting the stamina meter fill up 1/4th between dashes Conclusion: The difference was 0.7 seconds which I would deem is within the margin of error (5 turns). Therefore, dashes should be planned out in advance to fit the appropriate terrain (climbing, platforms, pushing, whatever) but favouring a special type of dashing wouldn't really matter... But I guess you already knew that :p.
