Title: The Official ZSR Guide to Essential Sequence Breaks
Post by: RingRush on March 07, 2010, 02:51:45 AM
We all know success in a speedrun, race, impromptu, or challenge is largely dependent on what tricks you can do, and how well you can do them. However, with the sheer number of discovered tricks and glitches in Ocarina of Time, it seems impossible to learn them all. That is where this guide will help. This guide lists all sequence breaks important to races/impromptus, in order of importance.

Importance is based off of two criteria: likelihood of needing the trick, and amount of time saved with the trick. To further help, it will be classified into "tiers", based on how essential the trick is to know. Click a trick to view a youtube video of it. Finally, the estimated difficulty of the trick is presented (one to five stars, five being hardest).

Shadow early should go up and Trials skip should go down a lot

I think BotW chus should go down to M instead of H IMO

It's barely useful.

Title: Re: The Official ZSR Guide to Essential Sequence Breaks
Post by: Lexkeeta on May 23, 2010, 05:24:17 PM
i disagree.

if you don't know a specific sequence break, you can usually reverse engineer it with hovering.

Ex: first time I got mirror shield as child, I didn't know the efficient way to getting to the adult side, so i slingshot hovered there.

Post by: icebreaker007 on May 23, 2010, 11:10:45 PM
hovering can also be used to get fire arrows and fire temple bk skip

You need to add Deku Tree as Adult. Definitely a decent sequence break, it skips a cutscene + you can just burn the webs to the basement immediately. Oh and Since I see you have just regular tricks on the list too: Keep Master Sword in Ganon Fight.

It's when you throw Ruto to the switch in the elevator room of Jabu Jabu's belly. This combined with a megaflip allows you to beat the boss immediately after getting the boomerang.

So very pro. I think a few things need rearranging; for example, HESS past boulders should be either last or second to last, it is far too difficult and can be circumvented with minimal time loss by going through Lake Hylia to Zora's Domain, and from there to whatever destination you have planned. For the most part though, this is an incredibly solid list and the format is excellent. I'll discuss a few more suggestions I have in IRC after I finish this essay that I'm semi-procastinating on right now.

I think the issue with this is that it's completely based on opinion and experience.

What do you mean? How would you improve it?

Why is BA/RBA 4 stars? Seems like it should be the same as steal the rod since there is nothing difficult after that.

cosmo: what razor is saying is that the rankings on difficulty and usefullness are subjective and are based on the amount of time that you have spent practicing the trick. he isnt suggesting any improvements

exodus: im assuming that it is because of the difficulty of predicting what will happen not necessarily the difficulty of the trick itself

cosmo: what razor is saying is that the rankings on difficulty and usefullness are subjective and are based on the amount of time that you have spent practicing the trick.

that's the point. how would it NOT be subjective? without subjectivity, the usefulness of this list is gone.

RBA is 4 stars because you need to be extremely cautious when using it. many people have lost races because they messed it up.

I don't want to say a poll, but averaging out the difficulty votes for everyone is more accurate. I was mostly just making a statement for anyone who looks at it.

is there a difference between the reverse DoT skip and the adult DoT skip? (tiers e and f)

Title: Re: The Official ZSR Guide to Essential Sequence Breaks
Post by: ZFG on October 08, 2010, 03:30:20 AM
Reverse is going to the front from the master sword side, and adult DoT skip is clipping through the door with giants knife/BGS.

I would say no, and it probably never will. The difficulty compared to the time saved is too much.

some of these skips are really out of date/ not used nearly as much...

exodus' fire temple boss key skip needs to be put over the old hovering method,

the alternate ways of doing thigs should be linked as well... like with 'Version 2' or whatever

eg deku tree as adult

Ganondoor should be added in a high tier, and ocarina items should be in a higher tier (basically next to ganondoor) as well

Oh and also FWWW/ganonless

Seems like bombchu hover is the least useful for sequence breaks here. Its SOOOOO useful in MM.

Obviously, this is quite old. Bombchu hovering used to be a think in low% and probably some really old any% stuff relating to gerudo valley bridge. These days it is not so important.
