Title: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Unreal on August 31, 2009, 11:04:14 PM Route is in my sig. Any suggestions, feel free to post.
Current runs in the works: Drybes (http://youtube.com/user/Drybes) - 11/75 segments completed (?) Phazon (http://youtube.com/user/lolilops54) - 9/75 segments completed Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 01, 2009, 08:11:57 AM I'm so close to quitting that run and i'm moving closer to a SS run. 75 isn't true anyway, because I was using the GS savewarping. I've been rewriting the run to incorperate them and also a few small timesavers that aren't in the current route.
I might just continue and not bother with the quick-parry, which pretty much goes against what I said in the new segment 1. Btw do you know the optimal sailing timing? Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Unreal on September 01, 2009, 12:58:52 PM I might just continue and not bother with the quick-parry, which pretty much goes against what I said in the new segment 1. Btw do you know the optimal sailing timing? Yes, surprisingly, its rapid sail bursts. Drybes timed it some time ago compared to the bursts with a delay and the rapid bursts were faster.Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: NintendoG8mer on September 01, 2009, 01:06:28 PM Quote Yes, surprisingly, its rapid sail bursts. Drybes timed it some time ago compared to the bursts with a delay and the rapid bursts were faster. Lol I always thought, that normal sailing is the fastest way to travel on water in WW. It's really cool to know, that rapid sail bursts are faster, cause I sometimes did it, but it seemed to me, that I'm slower, but I haven't ever timed it. ^^ Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 01, 2009, 01:35:47 PM That's what I thought he said, but then I looked at his demonstration of Windfall to DRI and he didn't use quick bursts so I was a little confused. Anyway here's the route i've been writing. So far i'm up to segment 20. I tried to be fairly in-depth. Tell me if you spot any mistakes or can help with the 2 parts I labeled as needing more info for:

TBC Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: DRybes on September 01, 2009, 03:05:38 PM Yep, was phazon's sailing that made me realize that mashing it was optimal. 4hz sail pumping > 1hz sail pumping >> nothing at all
The video you were referring to is linked below... it used slow bursts at the start as I was changing direction, and then I didnt quite get the rhythm going till a few seconds later, but from then on it's 4hz. I have my stuff so far on YT so I can provide links if you want. None of my videos are perfect but I think they're acceptable, other than maybe seg. 1 (and the last one, which is still a WIP... that video is from earlier this year) Segment 1 - a jump, swim walk, then all cutscenes Link: Segment 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWruJjh857w) Link: Segment 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBQhTnuUos4) Segment 4 - 15 seconds of gameplay, cutscene, save Link: Segment 5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzHU-R3t9K4) Segment 6 - climb ladder, mash buttons, gossip stone cutscene, save Link: Segment 7 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlZ0EYUV7JU) Link: Segment 8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBz2FpP0pNo) Link: Segment 9,10,11 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1X2KCJYtUs) Link: Segment 12 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOCjggGKVHU) Link: Old Segment 13 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmfklfYoVN4) Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 01, 2009, 03:35:06 PM This is the first time i've seen your segments. Hopefully you can help me figure out the Chu parry cuz i've had no luck at all. Also do you use a turbo controller or something? You text skip way too fast x_X
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: DRybes on September 01, 2009, 06:53:17 PM This is the first time i've seen your segments. Hopefully you can help me figure out the Chu parry cuz i've had no luck at all. Also do you use a turbo controller or something? You text skip way too fast x_X It's not so much that I text skip way too fast, it's that you don't do it optimally ;) Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on September 02, 2009, 12:11:35 AM Yeah, don't mash A and B during the entire cunscene, just figure out if its a 4, 3, 2, or 1 line page of text. Then you only need short bursts of mashing. Then getting results like that aint to hard really...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 02, 2009, 06:39:13 PM I finally got a quick sidle in a good run!
I'll upload the vid shortly :D EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZgnxiSdX30 Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Unreal on September 02, 2009, 09:26:47 PM Very nice segment.
edit: Nevermind I didn't read your route yet... <_< Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 03, 2009, 06:31:46 AM I know how to quick parry, but truth be told, that quick parry was complete and total luck.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on September 03, 2009, 10:16:17 PM I tried it a little a while back, but never managed it. Kudos to people that get it to work...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 04, 2009, 11:53:41 AM The most important thing when quick parrying is positioning.
Anyway after the long talk with Tetra and Quill in segment 3, is it faster to jumpslash up to the fence or to cut the trees? Title: Re: $egmented Any% Discu$$10n Post by: MrSparkle on September 04, 2009, 07:18:00 PM I think both are very comparable. With the jumpslash onto the fence, you lose time recovering from the landing on the fence then ground after the jumps. On the plus side you don't have the delay from chopping the bushes...
I think it is all about how it interferes with rolling before and after the fence / bushes. You don't want to do much normal running to line up the jumpslash or opening the door. I remember DRybes doing the jumpslash, but then did a sidestep to fall without jumping. Don't know if that was useful, it lets you roll more, but its more complex than that I'm sure... Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 04, 2009, 07:31:31 PM I'll have to ask DRybes about. And by that I mean hope he reads this and posts :P
I'm not doing it if it's too hard. It's not worth risking a good Bokoblin battle for 1 added roll is it? If I can roll and get a good positioning, I can get an immediate quick spin on the bushes and roll to the door easily, but it's a case of if that actually happens. I don't want to explain it, but due to complications, cutting the bushes with a thrust is simply out of the question. In a case where that would be my only option I would rather jumpslash, but then I don't want to jump if I can do this sidehop thing, which leads me to the start again. Complicated for something that saves less than a second... EDIT: I get what you mean now. I was overcomplicating. It's just a forward/side walk... Easy. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 06, 2009, 07:05:21 PM Segment 3's done. Bokoblin fight kinda sucks, but meh. I'll edit when i've uploaded.
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/user/lolilops54 Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Unreal on September 07, 2009, 04:44:15 PM Nice improvement there. Only lost a second at that Bokoblin fight but that's no biggie.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 08, 2009, 03:30:41 PM I've been looking at that segment 5 SC and I honetly don't think it saves any time. In fact I think it costs time. First of all you have to save, which costs 2 seconds and i'm willing to accept that the SC saves more time than the save costs if it weren't for one problem. I started the segment and skipped the text as fast as I could; I also did well on the rope course up to the SC point and I had to wait for the rope to come to me for about another 2 seconds. So there's no advantage to using the SC in my eyes. I'm going to remove my segment 4 and combine it with 5. The regular rope course strat is easy so there's no need to split for optimization.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on September 08, 2009, 07:41:34 PM Wait what??? Seg 5 is the rope course, with seg 4 being boarding the ship, then an optional save (no warp). What do you even mean by SC?
On another note nice seg 3, people have trouble with the rolling up the hill, you did it nicely. Then there was the fast rolling back to grandma, that jumpslash then sidewalk off looked nice. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 09, 2009, 07:22:11 AM The SC is skipping the last platform and using the last rope to swing over to Niko.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on September 09, 2009, 11:59:40 AM Ok I see what you meant. When you said you have to save, you meant it's too hard to do without the save, not truly 'required'...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 09, 2009, 12:39:08 PM What am I thinking? Ofcourse it saves time, but as you said it's difficult. I won't do it anyway, because i'll still be waiting for the rope to swing to me which means the SC saves about a second.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: DRybes on September 10, 2009, 02:01:34 AM I like how sparkle noticed I did something complex when I really didn't, lol.
I just accidently kept holding L after the jumpslash up to the fence so i ended up walking slow enough with whatever direction i was pushing (slight angle by mistake) that i walked off normally instead of jumping. Nice 3. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 11, 2009, 11:49:41 AM Thanks, I started 4, but I ripped the skin off my finger from too much button mashing (I mash buttons weird) so I had to stop for today >_>
I carried on with the route anyway. I found that SS Mothula's aerial form is quite easy with 1 deku blast and 4 thrusts. Also you can do the 2nd form in about 2-3 seconds if you do the first form right. So Mothula can go down in about 10 seconds, I think. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on September 12, 2009, 06:38:17 PM http://www.youtube.com/user/lolilops54
I could have improved segment 4 by rolling after the rope game, but as I said in the description, it's not worth it. Segment 5 is being uploaded, although it's just talking so I doubt anyone really cares. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 20, 2009, 12:06:53 PM Unreal update the first page please.

Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Unreal on October 22, 2009, 03:29:20 AM What's come over me? I suddenly have the urge to pick up the wind waker again.... Venick's vids brang back some memories of the hours I spent on this game so I guess I'll start playing more ww. Btw, nice segments Phazon not much to say. :)
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 23, 2009, 05:38:10 PM Hmm, I tried uploaded segs 8 and 9 yesterday, but for some reason Youtube repeats the vid in the same vid to make it twice as long and the second half has no sound. I tried 4 times on different machines and different connections, but the problem won't stop happening. I uploaded an old vid and the problem didn't happen, so it's just these 2 vids apparently? They play normally on my laptop too, so I haven't got a clue why it's happening. Anyway, no more uploads until Youtube stops doing it.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on October 24, 2009, 03:14:39 AM Encoding the video any differently than before? I'd sure thats whats causing it...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 24, 2009, 09:11:50 AM I don't think so, but it's worth a check. Would this be something I should check my convertor for?
EDIT: Actually no it can't be, because they played normally on my computer, just not on YT. So what exactly am I searching for? Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on October 25, 2009, 06:24:26 PM No, I mean when you take the video from the recorder. You turn the .vob or whatever files into somethink like .mp4 .avi and the like. See if you changed anything in that step...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 26, 2009, 05:52:21 AM I checked, everything is the same as always. I'm almost certain it's a problem with YT, so i'm not gunna upload anymore. I'll still play though.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on October 26, 2009, 06:01:52 AM Make LQ torrents of new segments? Upload LQ .mp4 encodes to some ZSR folder? I mean, you got some super complex segments for about the rest of the run, soon...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 26, 2009, 09:56:48 AM Sorry, what's an LQ torrent? And you think I should host my run on ZSR? Can I even do that with an unfinished run?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on October 26, 2009, 05:44:48 PM LQ torrent just means torrenting the segments in low quality. As for hosting it on ZSR, MrGrunz is hosting his TAS WIP here as well, so I dont think there's any rules against it :P
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Cosmo on October 26, 2009, 11:54:31 PM Feel free to throw all your zelda runs / glitch vids / anything relevant onto ZSR
we got the space and the bandwidth for it. go wild Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 27, 2009, 11:38:04 AM Segs 1-9 (Had to change host site half way through):

Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: icebreaker007 on October 27, 2009, 05:57:59 PM is it possible to put your runs on ZSR like cosmo mentioned?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Cosmo on October 27, 2009, 07:54:17 PM For future reference is there anywhere you'd like me to post vids? Make a page in the TWW section on ZSR for your speedrun, and embed all the vids into it :) It can bascially be YOUR page for your comments and the videos and put whatever else you want there. If you aren't that good with HTML I can basically set it up for you tonight and then editting it should be relatively straightforward I've PM'd you the ftp password and username Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 27, 2009, 08:38:23 PM I know borderline no HTML at all. I don't even know how to embed vids :/ If you tell me that then hopefully I should be alright.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Cosmo on October 28, 2009, 02:41:45 AM i made you a page
you can view it already in TWW Section using the ftp you can access, download, edit, then reupload the page to from and to this location: /site/content/tww/speedruns/phazonany.php i'm uploading your first segment and embedding it so you can see how it works (by looking at the code on the phazonany.php page) put your videos in this folder (in .mp4 or .flv format, either is good) /site/speedruns/tww/phazon/ example location: /site/speedruns/tww/phazon/WWSR1.mp4 put all your videos in that folder and copy the embed code from the phazonany.php page, just change the needed things everything else should be easy, simple, intuitive formatting Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 28, 2009, 10:11:51 AM I can't get on the first URL. Apparently I don't have permission from this server.
Edit: Ugh, I forgot how tedious the DRI seg is. It's just unbearable >_> Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on October 28, 2009, 04:50:35 PM The video doesnt seem to work for segment 1, which is kinda odd. Sound does, not video.
If Phazon cant do the page, I'd be willing to do it Thanks, but I wanna try myself. It'll also be easier for me to add my vids. Too true, good point :oTitle: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 28, 2009, 04:56:57 PM Thanks, but I wanna try myself. It'll also be easier for me to add my vids.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on October 31, 2009, 02:03:18 PM Interesting point. My WFI-DRI segs are 49 seconds faster than my old ones. Granted I forgot to change the wind to south and was probably a little faster on DRI, but i'd say atleast 30 seconds were saved, which leads me to believe GS savewarping could save a lot more than 4 minutes, which I originally thought was the maximum time it would save.
On another note, can I do my segments out of order? For example can I finish segment 11 as if I speedran it, record segment 12, then record segment 11 another time? Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on October 31, 2009, 03:07:17 PM I'm pretty sure that falls under the lines of redoing segments, which you can do at any time as long as you keep the consistency with it (Rupees, magic meter, etc)
Although I think it'd be bad if you uploaded the later segment before the earlier one :P Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on November 22, 2009, 06:43:48 PM Another 3 segs:
http://www.youtube.com/user/lolilops54 Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on November 23, 2009, 03:57:04 AM What's there to say? Not a lot of action in these segments. Next one will be fun, too pillar skip or not to piller skip?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on November 23, 2009, 11:35:06 AM To pillar skip, I think. Bomb boost probably. I'm not risking a jumpslash after all that fricken text.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Cosmo on December 16, 2009, 11:06:07 PM Congrats Ani for his new PR during the Marathon
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on December 17, 2009, 05:41:52 PM Thank you Cosmo :), I'm pretty proud of it myself. It was one of the only times I was able to do it in one sitting without major interruptions other than bathroom breaks. If I can improve it by atleast 20 more minutes, then I'll be ready to start recording for ZSR and SDA :D
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on December 18, 2009, 03:34:46 PM Well, do keep in mind you savewarped, although how often or how much time you were saving I don't know. But yeah, goods hit.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on December 19, 2009, 12:55:54 AM I ended up losing all the time saved from savewarping just from fucking up ice ring the 1st time. It was so dumb. But yeah, alot of stuff still needs to be worked on. Good stuff never the less. I'll be practicing more once I get my Recorder and my Mystical Ninja runs are over and done with
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 02, 2010, 02:40:32 PM Hey everyone! I'm doing a Wind Waker Speed Run, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MarcusSDA I got a WR for this game almost 2 years ago but no videos excist of it anymore and that's one of the reasons I'm doing a new run. My time was about 6:10:00 but it had wrong timing back then, I counted the intro in the time. I started the time when the screen appeared after selecting Quest Log and stoped the time when I pressed ''Continue Playing? No'' The time with that timing was 6:17:23, so 6:10:00 or something was what I really got, right?
Now I'm going to try to get a sub 6h because there were some timesaver I didn't know about but it'll still be hard to sub. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: TSDA on January 03, 2010, 03:24:40 AM Nice shit Marcus. I'm already liking the segments so far. :)
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 06, 2010, 09:20:11 PM Marcus, I timed my Fire Trial method to be 5 seconds faster, not including the fact that you don't need to equip your Grapple Hook. I'll see if I can get a vid.
EDIT: No I can't. Whatever, here's what you do: - Roll left, pick up a water pot and throw it in the lava in front of you. - Grab another water pot and jump down to the platform you just made. - Throw the water pot in the lava jet, jump on and wait for it to go up. - Deku leaf to the last grapple point and let go to grab the edge. - Deku leaf to the end and roll to the door. Make a video of it if you want, it's pretty easy to do. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 08, 2010, 05:18:51 PM Better route for Ganon's Castle, using Marcus' new trial strats. There's always enough magic and it's in convenient places. It also leaves you with enough for 2 light arrows for Phantom Ganon, although you only need 1.
-Deku Leaf over to Wind trial -Deku Leaf to ledge infront of spikes -Get hit by Wizrobe and run through the spikes -Continue normally and beat Molgera -Start Fire trial -Throw water pot onto lava on left -Grab another water pot and throw it onto lava jet -Deku Leaf to last grapple post -Deku Leaf to door and two-cycle Gohma -Start Earth trial -Grab pot on left and run up stairs. [Collect big magic from 2nd left coffin] -Drop pot and open the first 2 coffins on the left. [Collect big magic from 1st left coffin] -Run to the light and turn the Chu into stone. -Roll to button and hookshot chu towards you. -Pick up the jar and place it on the last button. -Beat Jalhalla -Start Forest trial and roll to the edge -Deku Leaf to the first vine platform on the right -When the platform rises Deku Leaf to the next platform on the right [Aerial jumpslash at the end of each Deku Leaf to save magic] -Deku Leaf to the end and beat Kalle Demos -Destroy skull on right and collect small magic -Go through main door -Ascend Stairs -Save Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 08, 2010, 06:26:59 PM I just did a few tests and found out that constant Deku blasts make a significant difference to your magic. You travel at the same speed, but your magic takes longer to deplete. Did everyone know this?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on January 08, 2010, 06:40:48 PM TSA used it a lot in his run, though I doubted it did anything. That's surprisingly good to know, maybe I won't have to use Soup so often <_<
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 08, 2010, 10:00:37 PM It means that the Woods Trail is alot easier now!
Great find! Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 08, 2010, 10:23:06 PM Yeah lol. That was the first thing I tested, because it took me a while to actually do it. That'd be a pain at the of the trial segment.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 09, 2010, 04:03:26 PM I was just playing through Wind Waker. I was collecting the shards and found a time-saver. The problem is I have no idea how to do it. Y'know when you pull up a chest from underwater and the music goes "DUN DUH DUN DUH DUH DUN"... I sincerely hope someone understands that. Whatever. I skipped that bit and went straight to opening the chest, so it saves like 1 second or 8 seconds in total. Maybe worth looking into.
EDIT: Damnit I didn't mean to post here. Ah well. I'm pretty sure it's caused by putting the Grapple Hook away as soon as you hit the treasure. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on January 09, 2010, 06:11:41 PM Yeah Phazon, it's old. Also completely random methinks? It happened during the Marathon too. I mean, if you really wanna try and to it for every shard, be my guest but eh :U
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 09, 2010, 08:01:52 PM How sure are you that it's random?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on January 10, 2010, 12:57:31 AM It;s happened to me a few times, it's due to an Octork being in the way of the chest, from what i can tell. Something any TAS should try to do for every chest possible. I'd not call it impossible to luck in a short segment...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 10, 2010, 01:55:17 AM Good to know. The only problem is that the Octoroks don't normally appear straight away. Not from what I can tell anyway, so even in a TAS it's pretty useless.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 13, 2010, 07:16:50 PM Ok, now I've been working on Segment 14 for a total of 4 hours and I don't manage to try anymore. So I don't think I'll try that segment again for at least a week. Speedrunning must be the quickest way to get bored of a game.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 13, 2010, 09:32:08 PM A week? You don't want to get rusty :/
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on January 14, 2010, 05:25:51 PM Speedrunning must be the quickest way to get bored of a game. This is a very true statement, and it pretty much stands for this game more than anything. Luckily I haven't been bored of it (nothing like blowing through the game in one sitting multiple times :3) But yeah, I'd say that's the main reason people have failed at speedrunning this. They eventually get bored =[Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 14, 2010, 06:53:11 PM I've had enough now. I think I stop my run now, I've seriously had enough of that fucking segment 14 now. Sorry.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 14, 2010, 07:03:32 PM I know how you're feeling right now Marcus. I got so angry with segment 14. It's really a huge pain, but you shouldn't give up on the run altogether. Just try again when you're calmer and you will, eventually get it.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on January 14, 2010, 07:13:17 PM Yeah, honestly. Please don't give up on the run, we need one so bad =[
You have to remember that it takes time. Phazon's still near the beginning of the game with his run. He took his time with it. Just take a break (I'd say the week you were going to) and start doing attempts then. Also, I don't think anyone here will really kick you in the teeth if you don't utilize the fastest strategies in here, unless it saves say, 10 seconds at least. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 14, 2010, 08:08:24 PM I've tried almost a total of 5 hours now and it's still not done.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: RingRush on January 15, 2010, 02:30:20 AM I've racked up over 25 hours on segments in my run. I've heard as much as 100. Honestly, a lot of effort is often needed to speedrun. Five hours shouldn't be the level that discourages you and if it is...then maybe quitting before you get too far in isn't a bad idea.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Runnerguy2489 on January 15, 2010, 05:21:45 AM Agreed that 5 hours shouldn't be discouraging or making you feel like you want to quit...You don't even want to know how many hours I've put into my last segment.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on January 15, 2010, 02:15:47 PM I haven't quitted but sometimes I fail because only 2 of 3 slashes hit the Bokoblins and that's so fucking annoying. That's the worst to fail at. Sometimes when I throw sticks on the wood walls they hit at the sides and the wood doesn't get burned. That's also very annoying.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 23, 2010, 11:31:30 PM How about this for DRC seg 1?
- Block puzzle - Quickspin and grab stick - Light both torches WITHOUT throwing - Take stick through door - Drop stick and roll over boulder - Use bombs to remove boulder - Take stick through next door - Light stick and burn through to small key - Save-warp I haven't timed this method and it'd take a lot of optimisation for the boulder skip to happen quickly. I'm trying to incorporate the stick through door glitch into the route right now and this was my first idea. You skip quite a lot of stuff, but in return you can't roll as often and you have to find a way to get over that boulder quickly. I'll also point out that, while the Deku stick trick is easy to do, in a speedrun it could get annoying trying to do it quickly; not to mention twice in one segment. EDIT: Wait. I don't know if a stick will even go through a locked door. It should provided it bounces at least 3 times (which is usually does). Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: AniMeowzerz on January 24, 2010, 05:52:49 AM Well if not, unlock and then re-enter and grab another stick. it'd still be faster than taking the normal route
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: ZFG on January 24, 2010, 06:44:51 AM Vid of stick trick?
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on January 24, 2010, 07:51:36 AM I was never able to get a stick though the first door with the bobokins, but yeah its been done on some other door once. It had conveniently placed torches nearby to get useful angles. ALso the stick carry trick in question was found by kriby a while ago, I'm pretty sure the video is lost...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 24, 2010, 01:34:12 PM You used a torch to get it through? I've been using the door frame, which you think would be consistent with all doors, but nope. At least it'll be less situational though. I'm recording it now ZFG; it was too late last night and my DVD-recorder was overheated so it wouldn't initialize a disc anyway. I never got a stick through a locked door, but I actually got the stick OoB in the door and it just vanished instantly a couple of times. I got pretty close to getting it through too. I think it's possible on certain doors.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 24, 2010, 11:22:42 PM I've got a question. Why do you get the wallet upgrade on Outset when you get the chart instead of when you go to see Jabun. I mean you go in Beedle's shop just as an excuse to get off the screen, which you don't need when you get the chart. It just seems like a bad idea to miss the expansion the first time you go back to Outset.
EDIT: Alternatively, if I can find an extra 10 rupees before that point I can go to Beedle's shop and buy the bait bag and a pear. That seems like a better choice. EDIT: After paying Tingle with the current route, you have 8 rupees left and if you get 10 to get bait bag and pear quicker then an extra 2 during idle time in segment 3 would mean you can skip a red rupee somewhere in the route. That could break even in time if you get a yellow somewhere, but if you get the bait bag quicker then this way is faster. The only red I can think of is the one between WFI and DRI. EDIT: Are the rupees in Savage Labyrinth random? The route says you should get 700 rupees, but I just went through the first 30 floors and gained 609 rupees. I hope I'm missing something here x_X. EDIT: You don't get 250 rupees on the Cabana, you get 152 >_> Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on January 28, 2010, 06:28:12 AM I've always gotten the first wallet asap, and you should too. Theres too many places with rupees you can pick up, to wait until later. I don't know about everyone else, but I get the Bait Bag and pears when I go pick up Maker for WT, its right there, after you warp...
Theres not much point in counting even tens of rupees in most segmented routes, who knows what spoils you will get as you play the game. SL rupees should be set in stone, last I checked? Do you just mean the pots you grapple at the Cabana? I forget what pots are at the chart... Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on January 28, 2010, 09:28:38 AM I tested the route and worked out that you save roughly 15 seconds by getting a yellow rupee early and buying the Bait bag and Pear when you go to see Jabun.
The Cabana rupees was just me being stupid and not noticing the extra 2 pots above the fireplace. Still there's almost 100 rupees less than the route says in Savage Labyrinth. Also I get the rupee upgrade at the same point in your route, I'm not talking about changing that. I got sidetracked when I was doing the rupee route, with Ghost Ship information and finding that wrong warp. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MarcusSDA on February 01, 2010, 05:07:41 PM I have tried segment 14 again today. Since when was that part of the game so FUCKING hard?!?!? It wasn't even 1/10 of this difficulty for me in 2008.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on May 06, 2010, 11:05:18 AM Huzzah. I should be getting a new DVD-recorder soon. Then I can finally continue with my run. Right now I'm not sure whether to redo segment 3.
^Also that old post about Hyoi Pear, I realise now, is stupid. EDIT: Something else I'm considering is whether or not to do the impossibly hard method for the first DRC segment. How much faster will it actually be? Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on May 08, 2010, 07:32:16 AM What super hard method? That deku sticks through doors route? Not happening...
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on May 08, 2010, 10:59:58 AM The biggest obstacle is getting over the rock without wasting 30 seconds. Deku Stick through door one isn't hard at all. Through 2 doors is a pain to be honest.
I don't want to commit to doing that method if it's not faster though. EDIT: Actually I'd need to unlock the first door and then go back in so I can get the stick through. I don't think a Deku Stick can go through a locked door, so this way probably is slower. There was a new way of getting a Deku Stick through a door (should work on all temple doors) that I saw in one of Razor's vids. I'll have to play around with that and see if I can get a stick through a locked door. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on May 10, 2010, 09:48:44 AM I thought all this Deku Stick through door routes ended up being pointless due to a rock locking the game because you can't finish goig out a certain door.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Phazon on May 10, 2010, 01:26:36 PM No that was me going from the Chu Parry room through to the main room without blowing up the boulder. You never go through that door with the deku stick route.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Marcus on June 18, 2010, 11:09:06 AM New WT route:
-Play like normal untill the room where Makar usually get caught and use Klydestorm's new glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU7jYujSUgM -Leave Makar in the room and shot the cauldron in the next room -Save -Jump into cauldron -Get small key -Defeat miniboss -Save -Go to the room where you left Makar and then play like normal untill you get small key -Save -Make your way to the boss with Makar -Jiano's boss key skip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4PHpPSiK4c&playnext_from=TL&videos=r_EhkRmvArw&feature=sub -Molgera Should be a little faster and in that case the fastest right now, right? Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: RingRush on June 19, 2010, 08:16:43 PM Keep in mind every time you savewarp you have to recall Tingle. If the savewarps save approximately 10 seconds combined, then it is worth it to do it SS. Furthermore, it would probably be best to do the Tingle balloon trick in the first room, since you already need to call Tingle to save Makar anyways.
Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: Marcus on June 21, 2010, 05:11:46 PM Keep in mind every time you savewarp you have to recall Tingle. If the savewarps save approximately 10 seconds combined, then it is worth it to do it SS. Furthermore, it would probably be best to do the Tingle balloon trick in the first room, since you already need to call Tingle to save Makar anyways. Saving after shooting the cauldron saves running across the whole room, then next room with the WGA stone and the wind room. If you savewarp you just have to walk to the cauldron. This must save a minute or so.Saving after the miniboss saves using the hookshot, hammer the switch and then exit the room. It also saves hookshoting all the way up. Starting from the beginning untill you get to the room where Makar usually get caught must be 10 seconds faster atleast. I don't think that saving after the small key saves any time but it makes getting to the boss and doing the boss perfect ALOT easier. Title: Re: Segmented Any% Discussion Post by: MrSparkle on June 21, 2010, 06:24:16 PM For what its worth, you can go back to the small key room after getting the hookshot, and get warped back up top with a floormaster warp. Even with Tingle delays, I don't think its faster, but it will be close...
