Title: No RBA WW Post by: poptart1234 on December 18, 2014, 02:35:24 AM Okay. Im not going to lie, my old TAS work of this game was not trolling, but it wasn't serious either. I was just really interested into the idea of TASing i just really never had any time plus i really never knew what optimization was, or I didn't know about frame perfect tricks or anything like that. Anyways I moved to a little town in Virginia called Culpeper, and I am currently home schooled so i have a lot of spare time on my hands. I want to try TASing seriously now. I want to work on the one open category, No RBA or WW. I am going to need help from the community on time savers and everything. So what do you say? Give me another chance? My Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3lc5R_B3KGB02hxEdU8Ciw - Poptart1234Tas I will upload WIP videos and link them here. If you don't know who i am, then i will link a video of an old TAS so you have an idea of why i say i wasn't trolling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZURAc62EhwI&list=UU3lc5R_B3KGB02hxEdU8Ciw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHgJgulnU6g&list=UU3lc5R_B3KGB02hxEdU8Ciw&index=34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9oQhgQQBCc&index=41&list=UU3lc5R_B3KGB02hxEdU8Ciw

Title: Re: No RBA WW Post by: Hyperion64 on December 18, 2014, 03:47:51 PM I'm not from the TAS community but I think I can help you with this one. TASing takes a lot more time than you'd expect if you aim for the high standards of OoT. The problem with longer categories is that the ideal route changes quite frequently due to new glitches being discovered. It's difficult to collect most of the TAS knowledge since it's different from 'real time' applications and the documentation at tasvideos.org (http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/N64/ZeldaOcarinaOfTime.html) isn't up to date at all. I'd suggest looking at the Author's notes of previous TAS submissions at that page. They explain a lot and help you getting into a mindset which is totally different from the real-time running approach.
As for the actual contribution to your journey: I'd recommend version 1.0 NTSC-J for the BotW chus early glitch. If it hasn't been TAS'd before, try finding a Shadow Temple BK skip from the entrance room without Longshot (that's the max% adult version) which will most likely require bombs before Shadow. I haven't seen you HISS/HESSing in your WIP videos so that's something you want to look at if you haven't already. It allows angle changing like ESS and has the speed of a superslide. ZSR (http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/oot/) has a lot of useful background knowledge as well. Other helpful tools besides trying different strategies and timing them could be MHS (memory hacking software) to make approaches more systematic. TASing can be very frustrating if you don't get the results you're expecting. Try getting into contact with real TASers if you think you're up for it. Good luck and we're all looking forward to seeing your TAS evolving ;) |
