Title: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: starfoxleader on February 19, 2013, 06:04:43 AM Hi
I got interested in doing a glitchless Wind Waker speed run. What would be a good time estimate on NTSC-U? Does 8 hours seem like a good estimate? Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Does 8 hours seem like a good estimate? Didn't Swordless do glitchless or something? Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: starfoxleader on February 19, 2013, 06:52:32 AM I don't know
I'm still new to this. I only saw some of Cosmo's 5 hour run. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: Yashichidsf on February 19, 2013, 02:31:07 PM Yes, Swordless routed glitchless with the help of some other guys like Rust45 and myself to determine what is a glitch and what is a trick. An estimated time is around 6 to 6.5 hours if the run is tunerless and English. There are strats that people haven't seen for quite some time that would be used in a glitchless speedrun, like the old Dragon Roost Cavern and old Forbidden Woods routes. Glitches don't save anywhere near as much time as some people seem to think. Superswims save like 15 minutes, Cabana Deed Skip saves like 5, and the various storage strats and ledge clips save around 40 minutes in the run.
Those are very rough estimates, mind you. I personally think a sub-6 time would be possible with good execution. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: starfoxleader on February 20, 2013, 12:35:21 AM 6.5 hours?
Cool thanks for the estimated time! Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: rust45 on February 20, 2013, 01:35:01 AM Keep in mind glitchless allows tricks like sail pumping, leaf pumping, and other things that aren't considered glitches.
Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: starfoxleader on February 20, 2013, 04:32:53 AM I knew that.
What about skipping the Stalfos fight in the Earth Temple? Where you jump from one caufin to the mirror shield ledge using the leaf pumps. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: Multisnivy on February 20, 2013, 04:52:26 AM cosidering leaf pumping isnt a glitch wat u think? ::)
Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: starfoxleader on February 20, 2013, 05:37:42 AM Not the leaf pumping, it's just that you skip an entire miniboss.
Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: rust45 on February 20, 2013, 06:12:05 AM Earth temple miniboss skip is fine by the current definitions of glitchless.
Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: Steve on February 20, 2013, 07:12:59 PM Where are the rules for this? Main things I've thought about using just tricks-
notable skips probably allowed: early boss key in DRC by jumpslashing onto the grapple spot. leaf pumping to skip flower sailing in FW First area skip in ToG using in bounds method (Old Kazooie method) Ledge grabs using leaf in earth temple bomb boost to the small key in wind temple questionable things: cabana sewers skip by hitting switches through walls? savage labyrinth floor skips using hookshot? Probably sub 6 or a low 6 hour time would be a good goal for this. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: Multisnivy on February 20, 2013, 11:07:45 PM im not sure that the hitting through walls thing would be allowed :'( it does seem like a glitch

Main things I've thought about using just tricks- Keep in mind I'm basing this off of when glitchless was routed in Swordless' stream a while back. As far as I know there is no written out route at the moment.notable skips probably allowed: early boss key in DRC by jumpslashing onto the grapple spot. Allowed but keep in mind it's hard leaf pumping to skip flower sailing in FW Every use of the leaf that doesn't get you oob is allowed First area skip in ToG using in bounds method (Old Kazooie method) I'm not sure about this, do you have a link? Ledge grabs using leaf in earth temple Already stated that using the leaf for things like this allowed bomb boost to the small key in wind temple Allowed questionable things: cabana sewers skip by hitting switches through walls? savage labyrinth floor skips using hookshot? Both of those are not allowed Probably sub 6 or a low 6 hour time would be a good goal for this. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: rust45 on February 22, 2013, 01:45:39 AM We hadn't considered that when routing it, Swordless says it should be considered a trick and thus allowed.

Guess we aren't doing ToG anymore :PTitle: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: MC Gamer on July 20, 2013, 09:37:49 AM I am considering trying this category out for a bit for funsies.
I'll be likely posting up some route changes over the next week or two. For the most part, we should be around what we were at when this thread is started. What seems to be the general consensus is - Leaf pump tricks are fine - Sail pump is fine - Going OOB is not fine - Superswims/Storage stuff is not fine. Let me know if anyone has any notes from things changed in the past few months that may add to a route. Title: Re: Glitchless Wind Waker Time? Post by: wooferzfg1 on October 08, 2013, 12:35:46 AM For anyone who wants to do glitchless, there's one key thing to note about the Tower of the Gods waterfall skip. I don't know how many know this, but whether or not you go through the passageway depends entirely on the water level. If the water level is up, you will always make it, and if it is down, there is an invisible wall blocking you. Knowing this should make the trick 100% consistent.

Some things are kind of questionable (like Early Wind God's Aria with the Wind Waker buffering thing, doing Air Snipes on Molgera in my run, and doing the Wind Waker + hold R + B thing to skip half of the Mirror Room in ET), but I managed to get a 6:27 with this route. That's with losing 10 minutes in Ganon's Tower lol Personally I think sub 6 is possible with really good execution on English, and easily doable on Japanese. My sum of best is 6:14 on English after 2 runs. |
