Title: Learn from new savefile
Post by: Willy on January 07, 2013, 02:25:19 AM
Hello guys,
I played OoT a lot when i was a kid, and now i want to take it to the next step (your site is very nice btw).
Problem is, I don't actually have a savefile. Since a completed savefile is very useful for practicing most of the techniques, I want to have one, but not by going "normally" through the entire game, because that's long and boring and I've done that too much. And I want to have fun with those new toys :p
So, I wonder if there's a route for someone who want a completed savefile (100% would be icing on the cake), faster than with doing the entire game thoroughly, and with a gentle learning process along the way, that allows me to practice in the meantime and afterwards.
I don't mind the difficulty of the tricks if it's very important to learn, like DoT skip or BotW.
Also, i would gladly take any advice for practicing efficiently, like how you manage your save files and such ...
Thanks ;)

I use the Wii homebrew Savegamemanager GX. For every category I run (which is none atm) I make a folder and within that folder I put folders for every point I want to have save file. With Savegamemanager GX you can then backup your save file and restore it at any point you want.

Why not play through the game with glitches? You can get a better feel of how everything is obtained this way. Plus there are tricks that can't be done once you've beaten a dungeon.

For example, in the Deku Tree there's a trick you can do to skip all of B1. If you play through an already beaten save, you cannot practice the web break sidehop, nor can you perform the web clip in the basement since it ONLY works if you've broken the first floor web. You also can't perform Ganondoor since you cannot have gone through the blue warp yet.

Thanks for the answers.
And yeah, i thought about those "one time tricks" so I guess I'll just do a common segmented route on a new savefile :)
As a beginner, what category should I aim for ? The WW any% route sounds wrong to start with. 100% looks like a bit overwhelming.

Child dungeons, a very common route for beginners. You gain solid knowledge about the game (tricks, movement, etc.), and in my opinion it's pretty fun.
