There are several tricks that can be done either by mashing or by timing, and I generally find myself mashing, but I'd like to know what other people do and their usual success rate in doing it. The tricks I'm talking about in specific are rolling, WW diving into dry storage, and ledge clipping into pulling out a leaf. Also, I've heard that timing your rolls is faster than mashing, is this because of some mechanic that purposefully forces you to wait a few frames more before Link rolls while mashing, or is it just generally the idea of "getting the feel for it?"

I time rolls, I try to time the other things but sometimes mash, especially for pulling out the leaf.

Mashing rolls isn't slower theoretically but I have much greater success + accuracy by timing them.

I time my rolls for the most part. When trying to get storage I'll mash the wind waker to get the dive.

I also have a bad habit of mashing b when there's no more dialog left in a cutscene and sometimes making me pull out the sword when I don't need/want to.

Always time your rolls, you'll get less worn out that way + will get consistent roll/speed preservation (this reigns true for Twilight Princess as well).

Timing for all of them, it feels easier and more consistent.

To any new person reading this thread: move away from mashing to timing as soon as possible, it definitely is superior and makes getting dry storage a lot easier
