Title: Weird Glitch
Post by: Shredwot on May 19, 2012, 12:36:01 PM
So i was watching Gregortixlkyns tonight and he was doing a bingo which included the Child Dungeons WW to DC from Deku. On the way he got the Slingshot, when he executed the WW and made his way through DC the staircase was already down. He also replicated his route again after the bingo. Does anybody have any clue as to what may have caused the slingshot to trigger the staircase being blown up?

Hi Shredwot,

We have a thread for research and discovery things in OoT, since there would be a million topics otherwise. Check it out: http://forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/index.php?topic=20.0

As to the glitch, I have a feeling mzxrules could shed some light onto it as he's done a lot with temp flags recently.

Actually I've been working with permanent flags more than temp flags. But anyway...

I figured it out. There exists a group of flags that store temporary dungeon stuff like the ladder in the slingshot room. It turns out that these flags are reset only when leaving the dungeon through either save quitting, leaving the normal entrance, leaving via the blue warp in the boss room, and possibly exiting via Ocarina and Timer warps. It's important to note that this set of temp flags persists when travelling between the normal dungeon scene and the boss room scene, and on death.

Now, when you perform the wrong warp via death, it appears that the temp flag persists, most likely because the game must fail to trigger the flag reset. So, if you hit the ladder in the slingshot room in the Deku Tree and death wrong warp, the staircase in Dodongo's Cavern will drop because the flag values line up.
