Only it takes a few hours of pushing, but after that you can complete the game swordless.

I saw a video of someone doing a swordless run from the east palace and onward. He said you had to push on the guards to the right outside the house for several hours for it to work and thus he cut that part out. I found this afterwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tHLYtYUpuA I haven't tried it myself though... EDIT: I just confirmed this on emulator. It took about 1:40 hours on SNES9x 1.51 with 1000%fps and turbo A on with the American version on an above average computer. I made a savestate if you want it :).
