Title: OoT3D: Full Game Speedrun
Post by: TomNook120 on October 25, 2011, 11:09:17 PM
Inspired by CloudMax and his route, I'm going to make a full game single segment speedrun of Ocarina of Time 3D using it. If anyone knows the current record/record holder, could you please inform me? Also, if any other modifications are made to NG+/Odd Mush route please let me know :D I'm very excited and will be working to see how I can cut down any time at all for a while, though i have it mostly planned out. ISG flip being in could help

As far as I am aware, there is no record for a one sitting completion of this game

Great! I still hope to have a record that is as short and as optimized as possible, I'm going for a standing record, not just to be the first with one =)

I have a recorded run with desynced sound. It is about 2:15-2:30 something. I recorded it a few months ago. I can't even remember if it was NG+ or not though... I can look it up later.

I am going to attempt speedrunning the game this weekend & probably the next one aswell. This is because I'm about to have a 1 weeks vacation. :P

Edit:
It was not NG+. And the time should be somewhere around 2:25 something.
It was the standard route where you get bow in forest temple & RBA as adult.
I also had to reset at trial skip because I wasted all bombs (My consistency had never been that bad. Seriously. I've never wasted that many bombs for the skip).

So you should easily be able to beat that as you will have NG+. That alone saves a lot of time since you skip a shiek cutscene & you do not have to RBA as adult.

I should have some documentation laying around somewhere on my computer. It contains information on exactly where and when you RBA everything to optimize it as much as possible. I'll see if I can find it. Maybe I'll share it with you. (I do not really want to do that before I record a proper run myself, or quit oot3d. (which I will do when Skyward sword is released)).

 EDIT:
I'm going to do New Game Plus

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Speedrun by Nook

-Time from 1st control over Link to Final Blow
-No cheats
-All glitches/exploits/skips/BA & RBA are allowed in game and file start (NG+)
-Resets and savewarps are allowed
-Cutscenes, besides ones before 1st control and after Final Blow count towards your time

I'll go for a non NG+ another time, right now I'm concerned with time and efficientcy
And ANY tips on 1 cycling the King of Evil are very welcome :) that is my biggest concern because I do not want to have to reset and add on a surplus of time.

Cool and thanks Cloud!

Skips for my run:
Forest escape, cuccoo through Zora Waterfall, King Zora skip, & Minuet of Forest Skip, Trials Skip

Since there aren't any ground rules yet, I'm going to implement the first set of rules:

Start a brand new game (no B items from other files)
Timed from when you first have control over link until the final blow
All Skips, glitches, RBA, and other tricks are fair game
No cheats (when/if action replay 3D comes)

These are pretty standard rules, may be revised but for now this is what I'll go by

Cucco through waterfall doesn't even work anymore, does it?
And it seems like you're going for the standard category, and not NG+?
That'll be interesting.
I like it more because it is soooooo much easier than NG+.
No gerudo's fortress as child. No insanely hard ganondorf single cycle.

The normal category is just a few megaflips every now and then. :P

Also, you can't skip king zora in the normal category since you're not allowed to equip a sword before performing Lon Lon Stick.

Hmmmmmm....no I didn't mean it like I wasn't doing NG+, disregard whatever I said about no items on B

I'm gonna be going with NG+, I really want a good time for my first speedrun.

I'm hoping that it'll draw attention to my YouTube too, it's not too fun making videos if you don't think alot of people will see them and appretiate them

But  Grunz subscribed to me so at least some1 I respect is watching :)

NG+ = start with item on B.
If you do not start with an item on B, it isn't considered NG+.

Still, why would you even want to skip the waterfall? Lets you skip playing zelda's lullaby once. Not a big deal.
I do not really understand what it is you want to do. xD

I Want NG+, I wrote no items on B as a mistake.

Ahh. That makes sense.

Anyway. The things you mentioned didn't make any sense.
Skipping past the waterfall lets you skip playing zelda's lullaby. But I do not even know if it is faster (or possible at that.. I remember trying to megaflip past it. Aswell as megasidehop. And cucco. None worked for me).
And you do not even get minuet of forest in NG+.
In NG+ you get light arrow without bow, so you never visit forest temple. The annoying thing about this is that you only get 1 single arrow against ganondorf, which means that you have to single cycle him.

I've done a JS through the waterfall, and I had forgotten the light arrow item. I'm not thinking very much as I post am I?

I have been improving my speed across hyrule field, castle, and courtyard. I believe they are as fast as possible and I'll use them through the run. Improving these are really fun! But my route versus the route CloudMax's segmented run are the same up to waking talon because of the chicken having to wait till morning :( but courtyard has been signifigantly improved as you'll soon see :)

For the courtyard, that was not even routed at all. I am totally aware that it can be done a hell of a lot faster. I just did it extremely safely, because I had no intentions of doing that part twice if you know what I mean.
Fun story: I actually DID fail this part once. That is why I went into super safe mode. :P
Normally I do it a lot faster. I have a route burned into my brain for the courtyard, I just didn't want to risk anything in any way when recording, no matter how safe it was.

And I also did bad while traveling aswell. I were supposed to do a bombslide every time (which I honestly is excellent at. I can change direction without any problems at all, as often as I want. I fail maybe every 10th turn, maybe not even that, but that is when I do not pay enough attention).
I can't remember, but I didn't even backwalk, did I? I think I just rolled like an idiot.

Anyway, you should not compare anything with my playthrough, since it wasn't even NG+, and it was not created to be compared with. It was created to show people the basics of the route.

I've nothing else to compare to
And it was to prove the point that from leaving forest to talon, there's nothing to improve you still wait for the egg to hatch

my courtyard route is this:
Press and face against the wall on the bottom of the screen
Sidehop to Zelda

Try it, it works! Guards won't see you for whatever reason

Meant no harm in comparison, just showing what you can do to a standard run
Sorry man ;)

1 Cycle Dorf made easier:

-Hold out your shield while he fires balls at you, until ready
-Look at the floor pattern; The light from his ball attack indicates where he is on the platform!
-Utilizing above techniques, make sure you only begin ball-swordplay when his ball light is just on the edge of the brown square pattern on Dorf's platform
-2 options here;
1) Fire your 1 arrow from afar and jump on the platform. This allows a small window for you to get ready to JS
2) (quickly) jump onto his platform and do a quick "L" view shot at him with the arrow. Allows for more time to set up JS
-Make sure the spot you JS from is a little less than 2/3 the platform size
-Jump Slash 4 times, then turn and keep your circle pad aimed toward Dorf
-Hit him vertically once, then let go of your circle stick and deliver the final slash

This is about as easy as I can make it, let me know if it helped
