Title: What's the Hardest OoT Glitch for You?
Post by: Razor7581 on September 11, 2010, 01:33:55 AM
I thought it would be fun to see what people of all levels, from the pros to the beginners, had trouble with in OoT. If you can't think of single, toughest trick/glitch list multiple. Mine is the ZR rock clip.

*counts as a super beginner*

Well...the other day I booted up my N64 and I got out of the forest without beating the Deku Tree (I used the method of clipping the guard with the crouch-stab) and wanted to try the RBA...stole the fishing rod, and forgot that you had to get in the water and out first before pausing (or something to that effect), and lost the sword.

*snerk* THEN, I was like...well, since I'm here, lemme try a DoT skip! Yes. Without a sword. I felt like an idiot when I tried it and realized this halfway through the attempt. XD

So I restart. LET'S GO TO GERUDO VALLEY AND DO THE CUCCO JUMP! WOOT! FEELZ THE POWER!

Failed. Miserably.

So I open up my other file. LET'S GO THROUGH THE WASTELANDS WITHOUT LENS OF TRUTH USAGE! WOOT!

...yeah...didn't go so well.

So yeah...those are the ones I kinda have trouble with. XD

^^ I understand your feelings... We all started like this I think (exepted Chuck Norris). Just train and you'll get better quick.

Anyway my nightmare is a simple superslide. In MM it's ok, but in OOT I've never been able to do a baclwalking ss and I only get a normal ss 1/7 times, it fears me when I see how many superslides you guys pull out in one segment while I'm happy when I got two after 10 atempts...

Superslides and bomb hovers (without hover boots) in OoT.

Maybe that's why I like Majora's Mask so much. Pisseasy tricks in that game.

LA skip

I know it technically doesnt exist yet but I know it works I just got to test something

Im also rewriting the any% route with LA skip but just a very vague outline

Cucco Jump with a Deku Stick on C-Button only, having left the Forest early using the Crouch Stab Clip with a Deku Stick only (having never obtained the Kokiri Sword).

Cucco Jump with a Deku Stick on C-Button only

It's hard because it's not possible, you have to press the C button to equip and then there is a 9-12 frame delay before you can use it properly.

As for hardest trick in the game. I would say Ganon early with light arrows on B.

I'm still a noob, so I say cuccko jump. I hate it.  Period.  I made it twice, but was both times caught before passing the boxes.  Didn't know that they saw you both on top of the fence and a tiny bit up the slope.  They have really good eyesight!

I'm too lazy to practice and get good at it, dumb guards caught me when I tried hovering.

I'm perfect at every trick in the game... But seriously it's a bomb boosted hover (off a seam) to a backflipped shield-dropped bombchu boost.

Title: Re: What's the Hardest OoT Glitch for You?
Post by: Dashiamo on September 26, 2010, 06:25:20 PM
I guess I'd be in the category of beginner. I used to think it was the Cucco Jump until I learned to pause buffer it (but I wouldn't make a good speed runner if I had to pause buffer every trick I did).

Now out of all the tricks I've tried I find a regular superslide the hardest. I've never got one normally with bombs.

Oh, hey, I can actually do these now.

So, uh, I'm really terrible at staircase hovering.

So you have no issues with WESS Forest Escape, Megaflip Gerudo Bridge Skip no-ISG, or Tektite megaflip to the fishing hole? Teach me master :).

JK, but anyway what I suggest with the DoT Skip is to learn how to consistently clip through the wall to begin with, don't even worry about the jumpslash until you can clip ~1/3 tries. Set up the angle, move to the right a few feet then back-up against the wall again, hold slightly down-left to where Link is SLOWLY walking backwards to the left, press A to roll, pull stick all the way down left quickly and mash A repeatedly.

Well I don't have any problems with the wess forest escape. I can do the gurdeo bridge megaflip no isg (like 1/100 tries) and the Tektight megaflip is bullshit. But thanks for the advice dude.

When i first tried the Uber Challenge, i had so much trouble with the Shadow Temple Early... I would get up there but at one of the turns, I would fall down and just stop for a while.

P.s, I only had 7 bombchus at the time and i still have my file in shadow temple (can't get the bird statue to explode with 3 bombchus...)

BotW Vine Clip

I say I'm having a hard time with just about everything I try.

I'm a fairly big name glitcher on the mmorpg runescape. But runescape glitches are mainly technical, logical, and physics doesn't apply at all.

And because I'm new, I can't do much yet.

I haven't once clipped through the door of time, much less getting timing on jump-slashing back into map on the other side.

I haven't been able to do gerudo valley cucoo jump.

I can't perform extended superslide without using emulator version.

I only perform the rolling->groundjump on bomb superslide 1/12th of the time (Though I do pretty good on mega flipping which follows a rather similar procedure).

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do a gainer. I can do a blackflip without l-targeting easy. But even with pause buffering I can't get it to move forward even though I'm l-targetting again. It just does normal backflip without l-targeting and I resume l-targeting part way through the flip, thats about it.

Yes, you can do a gainer in Ocarina of Time. You just can't grab ledges out of a backflip(or gainer) like you can in MM.

Is there anything wrong with that I'm doing? I've seen very little info on how its performed.

All I've seen is to do a backflip without l-targeting, got that down. And you have to start l-targeting again a few frames into the flipping animation while holding forward. I've tried pause buffering it, but it back flips normal (except me fluctuating the l-targeting).

Am I missing something here?

I am also having trouble with the gainer. No matter what I do I always go backwards. The explanation on the Majora's Mask page doesn't help me too much either.

on n64 : cucco jump

nah theyre not so hard, but theyre annoying. i havent been able to pull the WESS (castle before night) or the new swordless dot skip so i guess they are the hardest one atm for me.

ofc there is bullshit tricks like water temple as child etc, but i never need to do them so...

2) Hovering without Hover Boots
3) Staircase Hovering
4) Any trick involving Pause Buffering

1) Analog Slide
2) Z-Slide
3) BOTW Chus
4) Staircase Hovering
5) 2 Bomb Backwalking Superslide (yes, i have an easier time doing a superslide from a backwalk with 1 bomb than 2 :P)

Oh...I forgot about Super Slides...The way I do them, is easy, but the whole roll, grab, shield thing is impossible. I do mine ESS style with holding the bomb over your head and tilting the control stick slightly down-left. (Im not actually sure if that is called ESS or what, there's so many various Super Slides, its immpossible to keep em all straight)

That's usually called a "damage ESS" and it's way slower than a superslide (about half the speed). I'm pretty sure backwalking is faster than that.

Really? That sucks... It's kinda fun to play around with in hyrule field...until a Poe shows up and screws you up... :( but you tend to have slightly more controlover your direction with the damage ess than backwalkibg. Back walking you ned to stop and turn to continue but ess you can just let go of z and press it again. Plus ess just looks plain awesome :D

This. Outside of a TAS, probably seamwalking, even with ISG. Trying to do shadow temple early and I just hover up from the royal family's tombstone and use din's fire.

I don't really find tricks hard. Tektite hover isn't that hard same with backwalking 1 bomb super slides and unbuffered kokiri (distance) hovering (I can usually get 4-5 in a row pretty easily), so I'm going to have to go with playing well as the hardest trick in the game.

Infinite sword glitch is easy, start with inanimate objects like (arrow) sign, before you try bombs or cuccos.
Also technically, if you can't do ISG, Bomb(chu) hovering must be harder.

Extended Super Slide.  I'm playing on GameCube, but dang, I didn't think it would be this hard!  I think I've only gotten it twice, but I wasn't actually going anywhere when it happened, and I dropped it shortly after I started.  By extension, the Water ESS from Zora's Rover to Kakariko is impossible for me :|

Super Slide also falls into this catagory, but at least I can do that some of the time.  Just need to get the timing down better.

If this was a few weeks ago, I would have said DoT Skip, but thankfully I think I have that down for the most part.  I can setup the angle easy (which is by far the hardest part), but I have some trouble setting up the sideroll > sidehop > clip.  As the old saying goes: Practice makes perfect! :D

Oh, yeah, and Infinte Sword Glitch is a pain!  Can someone tell me which frame of the crouchstab I can trigger ISG, please?

Well, it feels good to vent.  I'll probably come back here when I try to learn staircase hovering >_>

I have a very reliable pause buffered method of doing the Vine Clip for BOTW Chus here (http://www.twitch.tv/kimimaru4000/b/338035493). The quality is pretty bad, but you can read the description for the steps on how to do it.

Ever since I started using this method in races I've been getting faster times.

I can't do it buffered and I fail WW. OoT simply hates me, that's why I play MM. XD Doesn't mean I don't try though.

The thing is, I suck at buffering. I don't know what I'm doing, but my rhythm gets messed up some how and I either hit it too early or too late and I screw everything up. XD

yeah im pretty bad at buffering so thats why i learned unbuffered

The hardest is DoT Skip and Botw Chus for me so far and I tried not much, yet. I would RBA but I play on the pal 1.2 version so I don't get it to steal the fishing rod :( If I would only be able to do Botw Chus, then I could just DoT Skip and get my bombs!

well on 1.2 u can still do swordless dot skip to do rba

You can steal the Fishing Rod in any version of the game. Alternatively, you can just get through as much as you need without getting the Kokiri Sword and do a swordless DoT skip.

I already fail the slash timing and did it only once so far. Swordless is harder, right? Not sure if I can do it at all, then..

I just started learning MST about a week ago and ganondoor had me for the longest time :(. The next trick I have to learn and haven't tried yet is DoT skip which I hear is a huge pain in the ass... :(

Buffer it.

I have some problems with B1 Skip, I fail it sometimes

If you do it unbuffered then that's completely normal. You don't have a lot of frames for the inputs.

Off the tricks I'm trying to master, it would be Gohma clip unbuffered.

Although I'm getting better and can sometimes get it 6 or 7 times in a row.  :)

Off the tricks I haven't tried to master yet, child void warp in ganon's tower would obviously take number 1.

Now, i think that it's the Gohma Clip, even with pause buffering, it's actually pretty hard.

Did you check out my thread with all the frame screenshots?

Inspecting closely every frame (you don't really look at them for long when pause buffering) helped me tons. I can now do it 80% to 90% of the time unbuffered (depends if I'm on a good day or not).

Then again everybody's different, what works for me could possibly not work for you. But I'd say it's worth a shot. :)

Yeah i check it everyday, good job, i hope i'll be able to do gohma clip in my next run.

hmm... i've been getting more advanced as i've played the game a lot more and i understand most of the things now, and i can actully do a DoT skip with a sword, without a sword, and with a sword unbuffered. but swordless unbuffered is just insane. i have naver been able to do it, and i probaly won't, but that is the hardest one for me.

The hardest OoT glitch for me would probably be Gohma clip. Getting ISG for me with enemies can be annoying for me :p

botw vine clip for chu's

I have practiced this for a week and have never gotten  it. I have tried 2 of the non-deku nut ways and the deku nut way, and I just cannot get it. I don't know why, whether my visual queue's are off or not, i don't know, but that is just one glitch that I hate more then anything. That and Ganondoor, but I've actually gotten it multiple times

Deku Tree B1 Skip. Pause buffering it gives me about 95% consistency. Without it, it drops to around 75%. I probably just need to practice it more, but that's the hardest for me.

As an emulator player there's nothing I hate more than botw vine clip. I'm getting hte hang of pause buffering, but it still is annoying when after ten pause  I don't advance the frame, and after 20 I just miss it.

It's Gohma Clip for me.  Ganondoor was tricky, but eventually I realized the window for OI inputs started sooner, and that OI effectively froze the loading of the warp (meaning the trick doesn't start being frame perfect until you cancel OI.)

After Gohma Clip it's climbing up the damn tree, I struggle endlessly with the wall Skulltula's for some reason.

*ahem* *coughcough* Naviless Forest Escape *coughcough*

Seriously, though. I can do everything else in an OoT Any% RTA run but the naviless escape and the void warp at the end. The void warp is supposed to be difficult to newbies, but the naviless escape! REALLY!

I tried many different setups from watching speedruns and YT vids, but I just can't seem to get either the angle or timing right. It makes me feel retarded   ::)

I also have not recorded/streamed a run yet, mostly because I can't get a handle on one of the easiest tricks :( . I might just do an Any% run with Navidive and running down the tower normally, for the sake of having a proper run out there.

If you streamed a bit I bet a lot of runners would come in and help you out ;)

Oh my gosh. I had an image in my post and I didn't realize it was that big. Fixed it a tad so it doesn't mess up the forum's aesthetics (click for massive size if you must):

On  another note, I just did this today, pretty happy. It may have been an older method, but whatever :)
