Title: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Runnerguy2489 on April 11, 2010, 04:06:07 AM Since we are racking up the impromptu results, it seems like a leaderboard might not be a bad idea.
Here was how I was thinking of scoring it: -forfeits get you 0 points. -finishers get increasing points based on the number of entrants Example: There are 5 people in an impromptu race. 3 people have finished, two people quit. 1st place: 5 points 2nd place: 4 points 3rd place: 3 points 4th place: 0 points (this person quit) 5th place: 0 points (this person quit) Totals from all the impromptus would be added and then an overall leaderboard would be done. This does not have to be the point system, feel free to discuss other systems. I just liked it because it awards points based on how many people you beat, and encourages people to actually finish to get points. Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 04:28:13 AM The only problem I see with this system is that it's based on the number of entrants, which is essentially random. If sixteen people show up to do an easy goal, then the first place winner earns 16 points; if only seven show up for a hard goal, then the winner only earns 7 points. Of course, "hard" and "easy" are relative standards, so it would be impossible to formulate a scoring system based on them.
Edit: Using Runnerguy's scoring system, I've mocked up the MM leaderboard
Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Cosmo on April 11, 2010, 04:44:52 AM I like where that is going, I wanna see the OoT one now! :)
good work darkeye btw I definitely forfeit once, but I'm not on the list for MM? lol IDK if 0 pointers should even be on the list but yea Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 04:56:29 AM The OoT one will take a long time, considering many more people participate and there are more races. I'm working on it at the moment, though.
btw I definitely forfeit once, but I'm not on the list for MM? You didn't show up on any of the results, so I didn't include you. And I kind of agree with removing the zero-pointers; I just wanted the list to be comprehensive.Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Cosmo on April 11, 2010, 05:04:39 AM Actually I kinda like the 0-pointers, the list would look sort of empty without the fallen names of those who ragequit
I was in impromptu "5.75" lol so I guess thats why I wasn't included http://forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/index.php?topic=238.0 Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 05:10:51 AM Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 05:37:02 AM The OoT board is done! Note that this includes Grunz's uncertain 1st place finish in the recent impromptu. If Pokey DQ's Grunz, I will change the results accordingly.
Edit: Fixed a numbering issue with tied scores Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Cosmo on April 11, 2010, 05:42:00 AM awesome list darkeye. I need to step my game up. I would also like to see a list like this for the OoT Races and MM Races (though you don't have to make the chart, I might do it myself later. the results are stored in RBABot)
Also a more proper way to do ties is like this: 1st 2nd 3rd 3rd 5th (not 4th) Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 05:58:07 AM I'll make the boards for the races tomorrow morning. It will probably take a long while, as there's tons of races to sift through.
Edit: Turns out I finished it tonight. Here is the board for OoT. There's only one MM race saved to racehist, so I didn't make a board.
Big Question: Jiano and Sig were angry because the current scoring system gave too many points to people who got, say, 5th place in a 15-person race. They wanted the majority of points to be rewarded to the top three positions. Here's the system I devised to remedy this: First place: Number of entrants Second place: Points awarded to first place minus one Third place: Points awarded to second place minus two Fourth place: Points awarded to third place minus three The pattern continues until we reach one point. The question is, do you like this system? Or do you have another solution? Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Cosmo on April 11, 2010, 07:45:45 AM IMO the current system is pretty good
except I would lower the points given by 1 so in a 4 person race 1st would get 3 points, for placing in front of 3 people 2nd would get 2 points, for placing in front of 2 people etc that way, you can look at your point total as the total # of kids you beat up. LOL 8) Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: ING-X on April 11, 2010, 10:10:21 AM HA I TOLD YOU I FINISHED RACES BEFORE :3
anyway this seems like a nice idea, should encourage more finishes in races. Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Lexkeeta on April 11, 2010, 06:10:14 PM lol i didnt finish a single oot race
good shit Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: mysticremen11 on April 11, 2010, 06:23:37 PM i know i finish an oot race it was me pokey and elm racing
Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: darkeye14 on April 11, 2010, 07:24:39 PM Remen, though I don't doubt that you finished a race, it didn't show up on racehist; I have no way of confirming your placement, so the race doesn't count. In the future, whenever you run a race, make sure the results are saved in the IRC.
To appease people like Jiano and Sig, who want the highest placers rewarded, I recalculated the results using the same system we score IL's with: 20/10/5/3/2/1/etc. The new list is neither better nor worse; though some deserving people, like Mp16, are moved to a higher placement, others, like Runnerguy, get downgraded to a much lower placement. In the end, Cosmo and I concluded that there weren't enough races or impromptus to effectively create a scoring system. So get out there and race, goddammit. Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Zero on April 11, 2010, 08:13:30 PM i know i finish an oot race it was me pokey and elm racing You dork. It was a race. NOT AN IMPROMPTU. Impromptu's are official and races arent.Title: Re: Impromptu Leaderboards Post by: Cosmo on April 12, 2010, 02:23:54 AM OK here's the real shit
