Kay so I'm starting a test run. I was itching to try running this game, plus I want an idea of how long this game is for a run and I want to get some strats out there for every little part of the game. Anyway since this is just a test run and the game only came out a couple weeks ago, chances are I'm gonna be half-assing this. Final Time: 6:23:20

Known improvements:
-Skyview Temple (Segment 6): The spider in front of the small key can be knocked off its thread with a skyward strike
-Skyview Temple (Segment 7): It should be possible to kill the spider without using a finishing blow
-Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Jump slightly to the side after pushing the box off the ledge so you don't land on it
-Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Sidehop after shooting the crystal switch with slingshot
-Skyview Temple (Segment 7): Use the ropes to get back after the boss key instead of going on the tightrope again
-Skyview Temple (Segment 8): Hit the crest from further back
-Skyview Temple (Segment 8): It's technically better to save at the prompt instead of the statue, but it's such a small difference that it may not be worth it
-Earth Temple (Segment 14): Pick up less bombs. You need 2 bombs to defeat Scaldera optimally and you need 5 until you can get a 10 bomb refill later in Lanayru in segment 18.
-Lanayru Desert (Segment 17): Make the bomb go off faster; either hit it with something or light the fuse earlier
-Lanayru Desert (Segment 17): Activate the Timeshift Stone from the side to skip the text with the robot and Fi.
-Lanayru Mining Facility (Segment 21): The sand room has a shortcut where you can jump over the spikes to get to the switch faster; however, it needs to be done very fast to save time, is difficult to do quickly without getting hit, and saves very little time
-Second Skyloft Visit (Segment 27): You can dive right off the Tower of Light instead of jumping down to the wooden platform.
-Lanayru Caves (Segment 38): It's faster to go through the desert to reach Lanayru Caves instead of going to the sky and dropping back down.
-Bombs (Segment 38): Don't bother refilling bombs. At this point you only need one bomb (in Skipper's Retreat) before a bomb refill is available in Pirate Stronghold.
-Fire Sanctuary (Segment 52): It's possible to hit the frog mouth from the bottom floor instead of going up.
-Bokoblin Base (Segment 66): Sidehop to the lower ledge before the first bokoblin.
-Bombs (Segment 68/Segment 74): Make sure you finish Bokoblin Base with at least one bomb. There's a bomb flower right next to the Adventure Pouch. The bomb speeds up killing the Cursed Bokoblins in Sky Keep by a lot.
-Sky Keep (Segment 74): The Iron Shield Moblins can be pushed off the ledge instead of killing them normally.
-Sky Keep (Segment 75): Take the timeshift orb up the hill with you instead of dropping it then running across the room to the hill.

Potential improvements:
-Rupees (Segment 1/Segment 9/Segment 21): It's probably faster to get the 40 rupees in the cave crawlspace instead of the two red ones I got (one from a bird in a flying sequence, one from a Hydra in LMF)
-Faron (Segment 4): Test whether it's faster to get the Kikwi in the hole first rather than last
-Skyview Temple (Segment 7): May be better to knock the last spider off with the beetle instead of hitting it with a skyward strike
-Scaldera (Segment 14): Should be possible to kill Scaldera much faster by replacing one of the normal swings with a Skyward Strike. First cycle would be the easiest, but might need to be done on the third cycle to prevent Scaldera from going to phase 2 too early. Needs confirmation.
-Lanayru Mining Facility (Segment 22): Possible faster cart sequence break by putting the bomb to the left of the cart instead of the right and then jumping onto the right side, so you can jump off earlier onto the gust bellows platform

Check video descriptions for individual segment and total times. Timing is done from the first visible frame after file load to the last frame before the "save" option is selected at the bird statue.

Segment 1

I think someone did a single segmented run of about 8:30
I would guess that segmented is somewhere around 7:00-7:30.

I'll probably attempt my own segmented (or single segmented, I'm not sure yet), sometime after Christmas.
Good luck!

Also, do you try all different dialog options while doing test runs of each segment? It would be a good time to do so, as you probably end up doing each segment a few times before you get a time you're happy with.

Probably going to redo seg 1, I didn't realize that the game prompts you to save before the race lol <_< Would obviously be better than saving at the statue.

edit: redone, will edit into the first post tomorrow. any suggestions where the 50 rupees for the beetle upgrade are going to come from? I don't remember if there's any rupees that are right in the way.

I think there's a jar next to the bazaar that gives you 40 rupees. There is also 50 rupee chests, but it takes a long time to open chests.
I can look around for good rupee sources later today.

there's a 20 atop one of the posts in the shrine behind skyview. There are also many 20s in the holes on the outer wall of the main room (im sure there are chests elsewhere faster to get though). There is a rupee chest behind a wall in the cave area in eldin that has all those fire breath things in it, just after you get the mitts/same place you get the rupee dowser. Also I wouldn't be surprised if certain dig holes guarantee large rupee drops.

There is some dig spots that gives like 30-40 rupees in total, but such holes are usually a bit out of the way.
It would be better if they are located in places that we run right by.
The fastest rupee chest I can think of:
Red rupee chest inside the skyloft cave. You run right by it.

There is also 2 red rupees in the crawl spot at the end of the cave if I remember correctly. that'd give us 40 rupees and the two combined should make it worth the few seconds it takes, especially since you can roll into the crawl spot.
so these 40 rupees, and then 10 more which you probably can get randomly from enemy drops, or maybe just a jar that you run by.

Or we could just open the chest and take the 2 red rupees in the crawl spot and we have 60 rupees before we even leave skyloft, and we only loose a few seconds. I still think it'd be a better idea to just get the last 10 from random drops though.

I do not think there is any rupees that you can get faster than those 40, but I'll take a look anyway.

Okay, so there is a 100 rupee chest that takes about 20-25 seconds to get. But because of how long it takes, it isn't useful, sadly.
The chest is located in the cave where you get the mitts. The fire maze room.
You blow up a wall next to the mogma that teaches you to dowse for rupees.

This may be useful in 100% though.. And you even walk past the guy that teaches you to dowse for rupees, which may or may not be a part of 100%. That discussion does not belong in this thread though.

Rolling into trees often gives away 5 or 10 rupees, also there's rupees you can collect thanks to the beetle in skyview temple :p for example in crates.

I'd say we get the rupees in the first cave in the game, those are probably the fastest.

Actually I thought of something, there are these two 3-headed kind of dragons in skyview temple, which each drop 20 rupees. You have to kill them in order to open the door to continue, so that's 40 less rupees to get.

edit : Apparently there's only one of these hydras when you first do skyview temple (there are two when you come back but you don't have to fight them cause you opened that door between main room and boss door room). Well that's still 20 easy and fast rupees. If you don't beat em with full life they apparently leave a heart though.

That hydra is probably faster than the crawlspace one in the skyloft cave.

Also now you mention it there are 2 of those hydras at the start of LMF. IIRC you don't need to return to the sky between getting the hook beetle and entering LMF, so these 3 hydras should be the fastest possible red rupees before speed beetle.

I also thought of these two, they're fast to kill if you aim well, and die fast iirc, so yeah. Also you can't upgrade beetle before completing LMF I think, so anyway I think that's prolly the fastest way.

Thought Lizafos dropped 20 rupees as well?

Only thing the Lizalfos always drop is the tail iirc. Could be wrong though.

Very glad you're doing this Parax, I have a lot of little timesavers in my head so I'll let you know if you miss anything.
