You should also note that the length of a pause is different in every area.  It makes it quite a bit more difficult, but after a while you can get a feel for it.  Don't give up, you'll get it eventually.

I can't superslide hover across the Silver Gauntlet ledge to the Mirror Shield ledge, and when I end it with a back-flip, Link either doesn't respond or I go OoB.  Any tips?

You can't backflip there because you're above a slippery slope which prevents backflips/sidehops, so instead use a jumpslash at the end of hover boots to gain that extra bit of distance.

Thanks, I got up to the ledge after 20 something times.

I also hovered up to the Zora Sapphire in the Big Octo room.  You can't pick it up, if anybody's wondering.

I had that idea yesterday actually lol, just to see what would happen. Nice to know.

how can I make the camera stays on the 'side' off link with Z-target? I saw some bomb staircase vids, and people often makes this Z-target trick to see both bombs in a perfect angle

Press Z, quickly move the control stick to a different direction than you are facing, let of of Z and press Z again, all very quickly.  The timing is a bit precise so it might take a few tries.

i need help on three glitches, the pokey escape, the vine clip in deku tree, and the door of time skip. out of those the dot skip is the only one i have not achieved, but i want to increase my success rate on the first 2 (both seem to be at below 10%).

1) deku tree vine clip

i know that your supposed to go 15 rungs above the skullata, but my question lies in how i can tell if links to high or not. if i fall and half clip through the wall, but i end up getting spit out near the chest (and the camera doesnt change), does that mean i am too high, or too low? that would help a lot. also at the point i drop, should links left, or right arm be higher? i always try to gauge that, but it never works

2) pokey escape

this one is fun, but when i do it, i always seem to end up looking like it works when i talk to him (me and him switch places), but then i get spit back out. is there a good c^ angle that will almost always get me through the guard?

3)dot skip

i know its going to take a while, but i cant even get the sidehop to clip through the wall. i angle it up exactly like how it should be, and i follow the instructions on the help page, but i dont seem to sidehop right (although sometimes it "feels" like i tried to squeeze in and got pushed out). where should i be pointing the control stick if i am using a classic controller (out of the 8 corners). does somebody have an image where the stick should be pointed (even if its one of the tas plugin)? also is there a way i can just practice the sidehop elsewhere (to make sure im doing the roll/sidehop correctly) before i even add the element of the angle into it?

thanks a lot for your help.

the pokey escape is very easy. First, train with making ISG in 1 swing. Then, simply cut the singpost, make you perpendicular to the wall, and make a crouch stab. Activate ISG. 2 things can happen: get inside the guard but he pushes you out or get inside the guard and he pushes you inside.
Another easy escape is exit a hole, talk to navi and drop a nut.

if you half clip thru the wall, you are at EXACTLY the right height. the problem is you are either too far to the left/right. If you are in the right place you will go OoB but not too far OoB so you can still get to the basement.

Go into C-Up and align the Kokiri Sword handle's "gem" with the vertical green streak on the wall. Hitting the same spot on the wall every time will help your consistency with the clip.

You aren't doing the angled sidehop correctly. It tells you how to do it on the DoT skip page. Go out in the open to practice it, you can do it anywhere.

To do the sideways roll hold Z and hold your control stick southwest enough that he's moving but you don't get the jump option and press A. Right after pressing A, hold the control stick completely SW and mash A. He will then do an angled sidehop.

Many people have already asked about this so I suggest you read through this thread for more advice.

Could you guys offer some advice on the WESS kokiri escape? I own a PAL N64 OOT and the GC OOT and I can't decide which version to practice on.

On the N64 I can hold the controller in the ESS position and make it to the guard fairly consistently, however the game runs at 50hz and so feels slow compared to all videos and the GC version. It bothers me that I'd have a slower game so that if i were to compete in a race i'd be at a disadvantage.

On the GC the controller is too sensitive and I cannot hold the ESS position while releasing and pushing L to change direction.

Yeah you'll just have to get used to the GCN stick's range or get a NTSC N64. Most of our runners can ESS on GCN no problem. Clipping through the guard once you get to him is a whole other beast. You need to get as parallel with him a possible, let go of Z-Target, and then press forward and A at about the same time. That's how I do it, I can get through about 1/10 tries usually.

Flick down on control stick and press hookshot button both at about the same time.

Watch the video  >:(. The hookshot is in his hand by his side before the turn-around is done. Do just like in the video.

Use c-up to go straight across the seams. Just go really slowly and be very careful when you make a turn.

i need help with early bottom of the well chus (the walking while talking part). i just want to know if my button combo is correct (Early chus page isnt very explicit with instructions and the video on the walking while talking page is a dead link).
so
1)i leave the tunnel
2)i roll to the door before the camera moves
3)i press a at the end of the roll to unlock the door (again before the camera moves)
this is the part i am confused at, after opening the door does it do everything it needs to without me needing to roll away from the door or do i have to roll away? i got to a part where the camera stayed in place like the videos i've seen, but i end up going through the door.

thanks for the help

You don't have to roll away. If you do it fast enough, he will open the door and just stand there and won't go through.

i got to a part where the camera stayed in place like the videos i've seen, but i end up going through the door.

You aren't doing it fast enough. When you climb out of the hole already be holding the control stick like this and as soon as link turns that direction mash a to roll then hold left and mash a to open it.

I'm not sure if this angle of the control stick will work for you but it is very consistent for me. If it doesn't, change it slightly to find the angle that makes you roll right to the door.

One more thing: I'm not sure about this but I think every time you mess up you need to go all the way through the hole to the big room again, then go back through to try again.

Hey, I got a question about Ruto bottle/skipping golden scale. I tried to skip golden scale by doing the backflip into Lakeside Lab to get OoB into the water and then did swam off the water and caught myself into lower water ya know. So after that I tried to swim underneath the bottle and get it but I don't think you can pick it up like that because I'm pretty sure I went right through it while coming up to the surface. Do you have to be diving to pick it up >_>?

Ya, its been tried a lot to get it without a scale but you wont pick it up unless you're in diving animation.

ISG off Navi is very possible. The timing is roughly the same. It's simple enough that even I can do it.

If you're having trouble with the angle change, try pausing and using that time to change your position on the control stick.

I'm assuming you're using a down-left/down right angle.  Sometimes with a down right/left angle the control stick can move left even if its right if its close to directly down.Try moving the control stick more directly right/left and less down for turning.

i have a few theories/ideas im going to try out, and i had a few questions first.

1) while i can do dot skip relatively easily on console, i have not been able to achieve it on tas. would somebody be able to tell me the exact values of the analog sticks position is for the roll and sidehop? (i would look through the any% tas and copy the inputs but i have not been able to watch it without a desync)

2)could somebody explain the differences of how to bomb/chu hover in oot/mm. i can hover in mm but not oot and i think this would help me learn to (sorry i posted this in the wrong thread a few days ago, i was on my phone and i thought i hit the right link but i guess i didnt)

3)if i do a jumplash at nothing in midair, does that store the damage for crouch stab (the page on the site makes it seem so, but i wasnt sure). also does the stored damage last until the next attack no matter when, or does it reset sometimes (would the crouch stab keep the previous attacks damage after a reset, or travel through time for instance?)

thanks if you can answer any of these questions.

It still works if you jumpslash at nothing and it lasts forever.

so basically you can jumpslash one time and keep that same attack power in crouch stab form for an infinite time

1) I have no idea.

2) OoT's explosions start small and expand to their full range each frame. If you use backflipping or sidehopping to hover in open space without Hover Boots, you will move too far and too fast and the explosion won't hit your shield. Also, the shield's hitbox is smaller and doesn't extend behind you, so you can easily get shield poked if the explosion is too close. There is a very strict timing for bomb hovering with Kokiri Boots in open space, but you have to time both the shield drop and the backflip correctly, so it is unpreferred. The easiest way is to hover with Hover Boots, since they kill your momentum and let the explosion hit your shield easily; however, it takes dozens of explosives to attain a significant distance. Hover Boots are generally preferred for obtaining height. An alternative to Hover Boots is projectile hovering, which basically means readying the slingshot, bow or hookshot to fire, then quickly backflipping, firing the weapon to halt your momentum, and shield dropping a chu. There's a small window in which you can fire the weapon, and firing at different times will vary the distance and height you attain with the hover. There is also contortion hovering, which is a little weird. It involves taking out a projectile weapon and aiming it as far up as possible, then backflipping and shield dropping a chu (do NOT fire the weapon). This achieves the maximum distance you can get out of a hover, and the chu explosion barely hits your shield because of how you are bent backwards when you aim the hookshot/bow so high. This doesn't work in a lot of seemingly random places. The currently accepted theory is that when the game is busy with loading and rendering surrounding textures and objects, it may interrupt certain checks that the game makes. In places where there is a lot of stuff for the game's processor to handle, it may be too busy to make a collision check for when the explosion hits your shield, causing you to simply fall out of your backflip. Contortion hovering also does not work as child. Sideflip hovers are generally the most convenient method of distance hovering; face perpendicular to your target, then sideroll in the opposite direction from where you want to go, then do a diagonal backflip. This is useful because it doesn't require any additional items and works as both child and adult, but many people find it difficult to pull off consistently. One final method I've heard about is angled backflips, but I don't know how they work. I think Pokey found those, though.
EDIT: I almost forgot to mention breath timing for hovering against a wall. I think breath timing for a bomb is to shield drop and backflip half a second after the 2nd exhale begins, and with a chu it is to shield drop and backflip a quarter second after the 4th inhale begins. This requires you to be up against a wall (it does work at an angle against the wall so you can still gain some distance from it) and it does not require Hover Boots.

3) Yes, that will store the damage of a jumpslash. You do not need to successfully strike an enemy; as long as you perform the attack, the damage will be stored. Damage is stored until you enter the loading zone for a new area.

so basically you can jumpslash one time and keep that same attack power in crouch stab form for an infinite time

This is incorrect.

I know this isn't strictly OoT, but how do you put pictures in your posts? I've been wanting to do it a few times, but don't know how.

Upload it too an image-hosting site like www.imageshack.us or www.tinypic.com then copy the forum code here. I prefer imageshack because you don't have to type a security code every time you upload an image.
