I picked up the Japanese version a few weeks ago and I've noticed quite a few version differences so I thought I'd post my finds here. Might be a bit wordy. If I have something wrong it's because I haven't played through 100% on English and I used a guide for the most part.

1. Japanese text is a lot faster than English

2. The pirate ship password is in Japanese (thankfully they're in hiragana so they were pretty easy to record). I compiled them into a list here along with what rows/position for each character. http://pastebin.com/2Pi2J9WT

3. It is quite well known that the heart piece at the bottom of savage labyrinth is under grandma's house in JP, but there's also 2 more I found that were changed.
a. Planting 14 flowers and talking to the guy on the bench gives you 100 rupees (you spend 140 on them...) and the chest that appears after lighting the lighthouse at windfall also contains rupees instead of a heart piece.
b. Instead, one is on one of the small islands around forest haven. You climb up to where you would normally go to the nintendo gallery but you climb up a bit higher and exit on the opposite side, set the wind SE, then leaf glide to it. Treasure chart 3(?) is here on English
Other one is in the center of horseshoe island where normally treasure chart 28(?) is.

4. The Japanese version has some rupee locations missing. Notably the "101 rupee trick" does not work because...they're not there. There are also not any pots around some of the triforce chart locations (e.g. islet of steel). I've been farming the ghost ship, killing the 2 poes and wizrobe, collecting 311ish rupees and then savewarping to repeat.

5. Triforce chart 5 is not what is pulled up after sinking the golden ship, instead treasure chart 16 is obtained and it goes through a chain of charts to get the triforce chart itself (it goes 16 (shark island) to 28 (needle rock) to 3 (eastern fairy island) to 40 (headstone) where TC5 is gotten).

6. The cutscene for cutting down the barrier happens automatically on Japanese, on English it needs to be manually started by swinging the sword. (I played English for the first time in a while and ran straight into the barrier lol)

Will update more if I find some.

that sounds in line withw hat the devs said long ago when the press asked about TWW just after release. they commented they made several stuff concerning the triforce charts easier.
btw, how much does tingle charge for translating the charts?

It is much easier to get on the Hyrule bridge railing

I feel too lazy to do a whole lot of barrier skip attempts again, on the Japanese version, to see if there are version differences...
It also doesn't help that there hardly are any action replay codes (0 hearts, infinite magic, forest water expires, etc.) that would aid in glitch hunting.

My main concern about the differences is getting TC5. Sounds like quite a hassle, involving superswims and drowning. Still love the faster text. I'm going to start a TAS project on jpn just to see how it compares early on. The one cutscene I look forward to is the bomb shop cutscene which always drags on forever. Is text speed faster, fewer boxes, or less characters? Just asking because I'm out right now and feel like getting a good idea of some route changes based on text speed. Doesn't matter why speed is faster, jw.

Less characters, which results in faster text speed, and fewer boxes in some instances.

<yashichidsf> tompa should default be a mod on everything related to srl
<yashichidsf> while i'm not a big fan of modding bots, i think tompa is really well programmed

Wasted hours of my life timing the Japanese text vs. the US text: http://pastebin.com/Hjzw1PJ4
In short, the Japanese version's text is around 19 minutes faster.

I also found two version differences. In the US version, beating the Earth Temple or the Wind Temple makes Link spawn on the stone platform near the temple's entrance; in the Japanese version, it spawns him on the island's shore, much closer to the boat. However, he spawns facing away from the water, which looks really awkward. Also, in the US version, once the Master Sword cutscene ends, you regain control and can just go. In the Japanese version, the King of Red Lions says something (probably something like "Kill all the enemies!") to you, which wastes time and prevents you from just running away as soon as the cutscene ends.

Nothing major, but incase anyone is wondering, the tingle pot on outset holds 20r on japanese (100r on english). Figured it was worth mentioning since that pot is right by savage labrynth.

On U, 16 is at seven-star on a watchtower for killing all the wizrobes.
28 is at horseshoe by throwing nuts into the holes.
3 Is at forest haven by going to the top using babas and leafing down to a smaller island.
40 is at sfi by destroying all the cannons on the platforms.

All this seems seems to make 100% faster on J.

At seven-star, the chests hold a red rupee, a golden feather, and a deku baba seed.

At horseshoe, the chest has a heart piece.

At haven, the chest has a heart piece.

At sfi, the chest contains at golden feather.

Are there any tricks exclusive to the Japanese version?
