Title: Noob moments that made you want to cry
Post by: petrie911 on September 30, 2009, 12:03:39 AM
We've all had them.  Moments of such utter stupidity you wonder how these people manage to use a keyboard.  So, without further ado, let's start posting our horrible noob moments.

Can any of you figure out what the guy's problem is?  Apparently no one there could.

http://www.thesacredrealm.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10135

This guy apparently thinks he knows better than me on what to call the hover glitch.  Yeah.

http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=iYx1K1thM88

That's all I have for now, but I'll be back with more.  In the meantime, what are your worst noob moments?

I for one think that there are no glitches in OoT. It's just gameshark codes.

So bad I had to sig it.

Cry as in 'cry with laughter' yes here are a few:

The old, obsolete segment on SM64DS. A german guy fails to read the description.

A guy who doesn't know why I speed up the text during a (ending) cutscene on Phantom Hourglass:

I once was told on youtube that EARTHQUAKES were caused by WINDTURBINES.

My first time through the Water Temple, I was using a guide. I fell to the bottom and saw that block that you have to push; the guide hadn't said to push it yet, but I was like hey, what could it hurt, so I pushed it. Then I realized I had gotten out of order from the guide, and I couldn't find my way back to where I was supposed to be, so I restarted the entire game. Fun times.

Thanks to TSA's method (since I can't do the Shadow Temple early seam walk) I never have to push that block again =).

I once was told on youtube that EARTHQUAKES were caused by WINDTURBINES.

WINDTURBINE used EARTHQUAKE!
It's super-effective!
BUILDING fainted!

Not that anyone uses Windturbine.  It's horribly SR-weak.

WindTurbine was moved down to UU tier because of his 4x SR weakness :|

Whenever someone doesn't read a video description, despite the top of the description saying "***READ BEFORE WATCHING***". Also, when people call TASing cheating. Neither of these should be tolerated at all.

I once saw a comment that said that this person thought that Sony should make the next Zelda game. Hesaid, "Nintendo hasn't made a good Zelda game in over 15 years they should let someone else try it."

I replied calling him a moron and telling him about the CDi. This guy doesn't think that OoT is good apparently. Only LOZ, LOZtAoL, LttP, and LA are good in his mind.

...read the description.  I was referring to the second thing mentioned, which really is quite hard to do in real time.

However, I still have something to contribute to the topic.

Totally, what a bunch of TAS virgins :P

It's not even that, it's more of the fact on how ignorant people can be. When I first found out about tasing, I assumed it was a computer program designed to play the levels perfectly... This didn't anger me, it made me want to learn more. So I did by asking questions and such, and found out about some great things and found out I was quite mistaken. I didn't just flame something I knew little about.

The guy who posted the comment is probably a stubborn 12 year old who thinks that TASing things ruins it for everyone else... Hard to imagine when they aren't even on the same playing field

well, if you added the amount of stupidity of youtuber's comments and converted it into energy, i bet it would be stronger than an atomic bomb.

also, if i were to add up the amount of times i've had rage cross my mind after some random nub dissing my vids there, i would have broken a crowbar with my hands some time ago..

what i do now is block them on sight.

the only noob moments that make me cry is when i can't figure out a really stupid/obvious puzzle.

Back in 7th grade or so a friend of mine owned The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition for the GCN and couldn't even get out of Kokiri Forest in OoT so in frustration he traded me the game for my copy of Turok Evolution.

Value of Zelda Collector's Edition: $40
Value of Turok Evolution: $8

Plus come on... TUROK for ZELDA.

Noob extreme.

[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:12) <@Umbreon> he was kidding
[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:17) <@Umbreon> hell, anyone who's played smash should know that
[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:24) <+ShadowJacky> umby, RR doesn't know how to restrain himself
[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:37) <%Fen> the details aren't what's relevant
[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:44) <%Fen> what's relevant is that I don't suffer pointless douchebags
[19:33] <Umbreon> (22:32:49) <%Fen> if someone else does, go ahead
[19:37] <Umbreon> (22:34:19) <@Umbreon> is there really anyone who doesn't know that though, seriously
[19:37] <Umbreon> (22:34:27) <@Umbreon> i don't think he was trying to actually spoil anything
[19:37] <Umbreon> (22:34:43) <+ShadowJacky> I knew about zelda/sheik already
[19:38] <Umbreon> (22:34:47) <+ShadowJacky> but that's not the point
[19:38] <Umbreon> (22:35:14) <@Umbreon> well what is the point then
[19:38] <Umbreon> (22:35:49) * %Fen taps nose
[19:38] <Umbreon> (22:36:06) <%Fen> the point was he didn't care whether he spoiled anything
[19:38] <Umbreon> (22:36:18) <%Fen> whether he ultimately did or not was an accident of circumstance

Later I got unbanned by parax, only to be rebanned by the main admin of the site. I never realised people lacked so much sense, especially at such a site that usually has a high quality of intelligence.

Several things:

-one guy calls Ridely from Metroid a "flying alligator".
-A guy asks me on one of my videos what GCN means: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3jf_xbDkhA
-Some Mexican "Programmer" argues against this one thing in Twilight Princess being a glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOG1M0ZXTOo
-Someone says that this broken Z-targeting glitch is "barely" a glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfM3P_iE5aQ&feature=channel
-This troll makes such a funny laughable comment (he's the guy flaming CrappyCaptureDevice): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52eh8Q2bFD0
- I tell my chemistry teacher that he pronounced the name of a Danish chemist wrong and while we're taking notes, not only does he pronounce the name wrong but he also says a Dutch chemist and not a Danish.
-A teacher says the Crusades took place in Spain; took place in Israel.
-Some one said that Norway was in England.

zeldagamern01? the dude who discovered the map glitch? the glitch that eventually got EMS to work? He didn't argue that there was no glitch, he was saying that the thing stopping the boar wasn't an invisible barrier but an "event limit", whatever that means (i've never heard of the term).

I can't figure out how that's a glitch. It's just Z-target rolling, and changing direction in the roll, which you can do normally.

Watch closer. Rolls around an area where an enemy used to be. Should be rolling around the body of the plant the thing it's z-targeting.

When Youtubers upload a classic game in Widescreen (NES->GCN)... stretching it out like absolute wank.
Here's a hint if the settings has Widesscreen In-game like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark (N64), set it and upload in widescreen and it looks alright. If it doesn't have a widesreen setting then DON'T or else you get crap like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Imeuzxc-MUE&feature=related

So the only Console Zelda game that looks alright in widescreen mode is... both the Wii version of Twilight Princess and Link's Crossbow Training*.

*If you set it to widescreen by the system settings on the Wii menu.

Fun facts:
* Mario Party 8 is the only original (not ported) Wii game to have no widescreen support.
* Megaman 10 added black borders if set to Widescreen on the Wii version however, if playing on the X360/PS3 version you get some more interesting background boarders instead.

-rant over phew-.

Simply the best, funniest topic I've ever read on gamefaqs.  This idiot thinks stealth rock sucks, and during some stupid arguing he turns the topic to evolution which he says is false, proves he knows absolutely nothing about physics (and later says its not a "real" science) and doesn't think math is involved in pokemon.  He also claims to be a university student when he sounds like he's 12.  Its a very good read.

They tend to copy articles from previous issues on the actual magazine to publish on the website... read Slaking and the forum comments saying that using Legendaries is cheating.

Oh and the recent issue I got yesterday they said about Clair's Gyarados is this:
Quote
It's Dragon/Water type so use Electric type moves to deal with it easily

And for Pryce:
Quote
"It's worth bearing in mind though that Ice types moves affect Water type Pokémon normally (meaning Piloswine's powerful Ice Fang and Mud Bomb can be real ... well swines if you're using a water type Pokémon)".
Then they said that Fire Types can resist Ice types.

They are obviously scrubs.

This kid.... is biggest noob moment I've ever seen. YOU HAVE TO WATCH HIS 2 VIDEOS.

1. He's like 10 years old at the most.
2. He tells me N64 games are weak, then calls Pokey a "nob" for not liking Goldeneye 007... both on the same page.
3. He has a video of himself dancing around like a homo to really bad rock music while holding an orange pistol.
4. His video favorites on youtube are: "how to use a gameshark" and "N64 Gameshark Pro 3 3 Demonstration".
5. A quote from his non-dancing video's description: "I WILL MOD U RECON FREE IF U GIVE ME A GAMESHARK FOR THE N64".

There is no hope for this kid's generation.

Stop being so pedo.

I recently played through OOT for the first time since it came out and was surprised by how easy the Water Temple was.

When I first played, I had one of the versions missing a small key and had to GameShark my way past it. But this time it was the version from the Collector's Disc and the temple posed no problems.

lol god damn

Like 95% of the gamers today only play PS3 or 360 so they assume directly that it is one of those and when you said N64 I'm sure he got very dissapointed. But we all know that Nintendo 64 is 100 times better than PS3 and 360 together.

Just like 10 years ago how we said Sonic would NEVER come out on a Nintendo console, because it is property of Sega.

Title: Re: Noob moments that made you want to cry
Post by: UchihaSasuke on August 25, 2010, 09:38:05 PM
big difference is that Sega was very badly mismanaged and Nintendo's management is one of the best around (they've lost money in like two quarters in 120 years)

it is far more likely to see Sony and Microsoft's games on a Nintendo console than Nintendo's games in another console.

(so i guess the above post was today's noob moment)

Title: Re: Noob moments that made you want to cry
Post by: RingRush on August 25, 2010, 11:10:05 PM
No, I'm not predicting Nintendo's downfall, I just am just saying it can happen. A Zelda game on another console in the next few years? Unlikely. Twenty years from now, it is possible.

Title: Re: Noob moments that made you want to cry
Post by: UchihaSasuke on August 28, 2010, 10:20:35 AM
yeah, it could happen since 20 years is a long time for things to happen.
i'm just saying that the other 2 console manufacturers are far more likely to make games for Nintendo in comparison when someone brings up the Sega argument since it is very common in other forums.

not a zelda moment, but i was running 16 star sm64 to show my friends, and they were so impressed at stupid stuff.

1)in the lil'penguin lost star i jump off the edge directly to the penguin and they are like "wow you just destroyed that level", im not sure why they never did that.

2)in lethal lava land i did damage boosting and it was so funny how much they freaked out over my damage boosting.

3) the real noobish moment, i did the clip on the spiral staircase (saves like 2-3 seconds max) and my friend said, "wait... did you just skip the infinite stairs?" lol

I'm not accusing you of cheating with codes or something like, but the things you do in the run are not legit, i'm talking about "Out of Bounds" and how you got almost all the songs without even talking to Shiek... Even if you proclaim that you do not cheat it is pretty obvious that you do.
And if you look at the video there are items that you did'nt even get in the run but still have in your inventory, that bit confuses me a little.
Though I'm fully aware what you doing in the run like the: Megaflip & Ultimate Sword Glitch but that can only do so much for you. And I know almost everything about an "Bottle Adventure" speedrun
ether way your run is not a legit one.

I'm guessing the PM was from DarkRocky but one of his comments:

Quote
This is called "Bottle Adventure" and is very common among Speedrunners... Though I must say you almost had me fooled for quite a while before I was realizing that you use cheat in certain opportunities even if you say that you don't

then try to submit your run to SDA and see if you can get it published on their website?

You should send him a link saying that Out of Bounds is allowed, ZSR link on Bottle Adventure and a SDA verification page to show that loser this awesome run has got accepted ;)

I had a few dumb comments saying my NSMB run wasn't a WR because I didn't beat Bowser ASAP (they were getting mixed up with Any% and 100%).

Here's his reply:

 Sv: Re: LoZ - OoT
Hmm... (Inhales) Though you never answered my question about the songs or just plained ignored it either way you choose not too answer it now why is that could it be that you did'nt know what to say or did you think I would forget about it?
If someone is so nervous about answering a simple question like that must have something to hide... be careful when writing stuff to me I can see what others can not ^^

Another thing that is stupid but I will say it anyway SDA has it's rules nad such thing though you're just submiting you run to them they just look after regular cheats you know the things they can see like: Infinite Health - Infinite Magic. There is no EQ to actully deep look into run.

Besides you could have played it on a PC with a Emulator (I don't think so, but you could have) or there is a possible that you could have used a ridiculous connection to your computer when recording therefore using a "PC Glitch" you would be surprised of what could happen.

Anyways we can go on forever with this, but I believe what I want to believe.

My brother is pretty much a walking noob moment and it's really frustrating.

Any time he sees me speedrunning a game, or watching a video of a speedrun or a TAS, he just bitches about how it's not legitimate and people should just learn to play the game without doing glitches.

IMO I think he's probably just jealous because he claims he knows everything about OoT, so when he sees something he didn't know about, he gets all pissy.

This was a question I had to answer for an online test

Ms. Silly surveyed the 38 students in her class about their families.  28 students have a brother and a sister, 15 students have a brother, and 8 students have both a brother and a sister.  How many students have only a sister?
A) 21
B) none of these
C) 5
D) 13
E) 20

The "correct" answer was 21.

From gamefaqs:

who said eponas song slows you down...it helps with speed around the whole world to the effect that the ten horse poes dont att epona moves 3x max speed if properly maxed out. Over all you would be wasting time to avoid eponas song. Come on now it only takes 5-10 mins to get epona and on the other hand it takes atleast twice that to avoid the foot poes as an adult. on another note you can just jump the gorge in gerudo valley instead of taking time to whip out your hook/longshot and latch on to the target epona will save you time approx 3 mins each area. Plus while on her you take no damage so you can use her to save a little hp for the ever so annoying Dark Link.

More like Youtube comments done noobishly.

Quote
If that particular file was started in 2008, I don't think this should count as a speed run. It's not one continuous play, but a combination of perfected runs that you started two years ago. Respect for having a completed game save with under 10 minutes of recorded time, but this "speed run" took 2 years, not 9.5 minutes. Do this without save/loading and I'll consider it a speed run.

Although extremely impressive, your record doesn't stand because it uses glitches. Otherwise, I absolutely love your skills throughout the video. :D

Quote
"current world record for Portal completion time."

A) Hardly. you glitched. STILL A FORM OF CHEATING. you broke the engine's rules in order to speed up the process, furthermore, it is not one complete segment, you cut at the beginning of every level. the edge glitch, the bunny hop script, and the save glitch, and the portal bumping are all against the game's original nature and intent, therefore against the rules of the game. Just because it let's you do it doesnt make it right, its exploiting....
None of those matter at all.

B) None of those matter at all.

Bunny hopping isn't a script.

And what the fuck is with "against the rules"? It's a game, not a tournament, dumbass.

It's obvious you've never seen a speed run. Almost every speed run involves glitching.

A) Im sure the stupidity of your statements stand true, however, before you defend someone you obviously don't know, note that he admits to having a bunny hop script in the walkthrough videos.

with those kind of comments, you can replace the game's name with any other game and it would describe 99% of the debates with people who think using glitches is cheating in any game that pop up anywhere. it is very sad that there's people with such narrow-minded thoughts.

the sad part is that I think it was a "friend" of mine, cuz only he knows how to get in my room without the key, if it would be any thieve he would steal everything he knows that can sell, but no, only my gaming stuff was stolen

If they do that, they are really stupid. Also, speaking of stolen things, one of my friends got his bike stolen a few years ago. Later the same day it got stolen they drove past a guy when he was riding it, but I don't know what they did after that.

I did something stupid while playing OoT yesterday. I prepared for a Shadow IL and I got everything I needed for the temple. But what I wanted to do was, save in Shadow, go out and activate Nayru's Love and go back in and then start the IL. But I did Shadow early without Din's Fire so I couldn't get back into Shadow after activating NL. Now I prepared for that IL in vain, unless I do Shadow early for every attempt. But I will just restart and get Din's Fire this time.

This is related to my boomerang trick:

surrealfeline:
Something is fishy with this - how the heck are you getting the boomerang through the walls like that? It does not work on my DS - did you install some kind of cheat patch??

me:
You may notice that when the boomerang returns to Link it goes through anything, including walls.

No cheats at all.

surrealfeline:
Yeah even more fishy is that you said the exact same thing to ItsMelissaTv, same exact words. I have just played this part on my DS and the boomerang thing DOES NOT WORK. There is obviously something not right with this video and you're tricking people.

But the first time I played MM it only took me 1½ years, because I was too afraid to go down the well among all the zombies :p.

On the topic of noobish mario moments, look no further than Siglemic's live streams over the past couple weeks. Whether its the everyday victories of trolls saying Sig is a 300lb swedish girl who makes live TASes with Windows IMovie or the epic wins of preteens asking for a link to how he can make glitches in games, guessing a time of 12.7 when hes on the TTM slide, or asking why he only gets 120 stars when there are obviously 150 in the game. The important thing is that whenever Sig starts, they all are determined that THIS IS THE RUN, but only if he gets extra lives from Yoshi first.

(...looks back Siglemics chat, and raises palm to face.)

In Skyward Sword I suck at the pumpkin shooting game. I know I have to fully load the arrow and hit the pumpkin, when it is in the target point. But with the delay of Fledge throwing the pumpkins and then throwing it in weird angels I cannot concentrate. Also you only get the score multiplier by shooting one arrow to avoid spamming arrows. So when you miss, you miss or have only 10 points each.

My brother walked in on me watching Jiano's MM speedrun and said, "I hate this game. Hell, EVERYBODY hates this game. Even the people who made it hate it! OoT is so much better."

Me: If Nintendo had hated this game, they wouldn't have released and rereleased it. If everyone hated this game, this run would not exist."

Video: "Yeah, OoT sucked. That game was terrible."

When the guy sed OoT sucked, he gaped at the video, complained about three days and left.

This made me laugh to myself, not cry, but he's such a noob that he says "WHAT?!" every 10 seconds in a speedrun. At least he accepts that glitches are valid.

Me: (fucks up superslide) Damn.
Him: Dude, what is that sword?
Me: The Great Fairy Sword. You get it when you find all the fairies in Stone Tower.
Him: No, I know that. I meant the B sword.
Me: (stares for a moment) The Gilded Sword...
Him:  How do you get it, it looks fucking badass.
Me: (staring more) Dude, are you trolling me right now?
Him: No.
SILENCE
Me: You upgrade the Razor Sword with the Gold Dust.
Him: How do you get the Razor Sword?
Me: You're kidding me. You've had the game since it came out. How can you not have gone to the smithy?
Him: I've been to the smithy, but every time I go, he can't do anything cuz the forge is frozen.
SILENCE
Me: Have you ever heard of Fire Arrows?
Him: You can't use weapons inside a house. YOU'RE trolling.
(Silence as I warp and unfreeze forge w/ FA)
Him: ...Oh.

It turns out he really wasn't trolling. He had never gotten the GS. This made me very sad as he showed me many techniques for things like Aquaslide and BiT. Sorry for text wall...

I did the exact same thing using the Official Player's Guide.

Or Hot Spring Water that the smithy mentioned if he paid attention...

I don't know if it's really n00by, but on ZeldaInforme, they were talking about the fake screenshots for the 'new Zelda 3DS' game. Some people might know it, The 'Legend of Zelda: Shrimp Shield' thing. They said that it was stupid to think it was a rumor/it was going to be rubbish just because of the name, and then said "We wouldn't think any Zelda games would be called 'Wind Waker', or 'Spirit Tracks' or 'Phantom Hourglass'". Now, I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't think those games would be rubbish because of the name. + Of course we wouldn't think any Zelda games would be called that because we don't know what they're going to be called.  ::) (I have a gut feeling that I'm over-reacting/being the n00b here)

Title: Re: Noob moments that made you want to cry
Post by: doommaker on September 22, 2012, 01:46:56 PM
that could very easily be fake^

you could honestly just open up photoshop, get a good background picture, and then add "the legend of zelda" (insert random title here)

and then put the picture on your 3ds and then you have the "newest" LoZ game.....that actually seems kinda fun...I'm going to make one xD

Edit:found another picture (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/fakeZelda3DSscreenshot2.jpg) and that "Attack" button seems oddly familiar xD

I knew it was fake -_-, it was just that ZI said indirectly that Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks aren't what we would expect Zelda games to be called. And that of course we wouldn't expect it. We wouldn't expect what a Zelda game would be called, for all we know it could be called 'The Evil Potato'. And also that picture, did you notice that the screenshot actually looks like The Wind Waker, but with the OoT3D attack symbol on it?

They make a video about LJA...on Wii version :/ They fail that forever (then show a comment from a guy that says Nintendo fixed LJA in the Wii version...) and later make another video where they fail even more.

Back in the days when Brawl was about to come out, I saw a video of someone showing that he got the game about 3 or 4 days before release. It was legit since he actually uploaded the video that many days before the release. However, there are always idiots that just have to claim that those things are fake. I remember someone who commented that the uploader just changed the date in the video to that many days before the release... What he didn't realize was that you could only change the date to when something was recorded, not uploaded, obviously. I laughed so hard when I saw it.

I have an example of when I was a noob. In TP, I was saving a BiT file. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing at the file selection screen and accidentally overwrote my 100% completed file with the worthless BiT file. Unfortunately, I repeated this process a total of 3 times, having to completely restart the entire game from start to end each time. Now I always have 3 save files all with the same save data, just in case! :P
