I've already found a huge sequence break! (yes I did cause I'm the son of Chuck Norris)

The tone looks much more colourful than Twilight Princess, I have a feeling it uses a heavily modified engine of TW. The IGN stream was laggy in my half so I might have to watch it again to see the missing parts, including the trailer.

Quote
Deku Babas (must slash them in the lateral direction of their mouth)

Fixed.

It hurt to watch the shitty live demo during the conference this morning. Is very good to hear the positive reviews on the smoothness and precision of the controls since then. And the graphic style looks really nice - almost like a cross between WW & TP.

[20:23] <Razakin> And some silly Zelda with penis name

Okay, Here is what I took from a press interview tonight, there are a few useful things in there:

Miyamoto said that the goal of Skyward Sword is to get back to basics and focus on what makes them really fun. He said that there's often a big lag from when the graphics get done and the game is completed. He said the reason they only showed a piece of teaser art at last year's event was because of this lag. He said that gameplay on Skyward Sword is almost complete, and the graphics are being polished. He said they need to make a few more dungeons but it's mostly complete. However, since he couldn't guarantee it would arrive this year, he'd rather take his time and get it right. In this Zelda, Link is a little boy born into a land above the clouds called Skyloft. One day, he learns there is a land below the clouds ruled by evil forces. However, the revelation prompts a series of events which forces him to go to the land beneath the clouds. The reason he goes down is in the title--it's the Skyward Sword. The sword possesses intelligence, and will assume the semi-human form in the teaser poster shown last year. It's the "master sword." The Skyward Sword will become the Master Sword, apparently. The sky is also very important to the game, apparently. He said when you play the game, the cloud banks are "very impactful" and they wanted to make the art style highlight them. Apparently Miyamoto was such a fan of the art style the approval process took one step. Miyamoto said he's a big fan of Impressionist Art, so the new art style reflects that. He said Cezanne was a big influence. He said the Wii MotionPlus offers such precision that players have to pay close attention to the enemies. For instance, the demonstrator is fighting a scorpion, and must hit its claws at specific angles. Aouma said the new, exaggerated art style helps in this process. "If we had kept the Twilight Princess art style, we'd be done already!" He said they also want to change the typical structure of Zelda games with Skyward Sword. He said they also want to change the typical structure of Zelda games with Skyward Sword. He asks how many people have played Ocarina of Time. ALL the hands go up. He apologizes for the long time it took to change out of iron boots going through the Water Temple. He says the 3DS version will make this process much easier. He said that Skyward Sword will make item management and changing clothes much easier and more streamlined. Miyamoto says the item selection process may be unfamiliar, but once players are used to it, it will feel comfortable. He said the pointing item system from Twilight Princess could be cumbersome because people often couldn't find the cursor on screen. He said the Wii MotionPlus will have a new pointing system that will make the Wii Remote be used like a three-dimensional mouse. They run the trailer from this morning's presentation again. Wait--Link? In a Zelda game? I. am. shocked. Second questioner expresses concern the HUD for Skyward Sword is too crowded and takes up too much real estate. Aonuma said that the demo at E3 will have the HUD up all the time, but they are still working on how to deal with it exactly. Third questioner asks whether or not Skyward Sword will have an original orchestral score or maybe even voice acting. Miyamoto says they have increased the number of music staff at Nintendo to write more songs. Next questioner says he noticed that Link could drink potions while running in Zelda, where as in the past he had to stop. Aonuma said that it was a decision to provide more seamless combat. Miyamoto says one of the goals of the game is to have gameplay be as seamless as possible. Next question talks about how he just beat Spirit Tracks on the plane and wants to know if the whip originated in Spirit Tracks or Skyward Sword. He gushes about the whip item at length. Aonuma said the whip originated in Spirit Tracks, and that the same person is handling the mechanic in Skyward Sword. Much of the staff of Spirit Tracks is working on Skyward Sword. Next question wonders if the developers worry that the sword fighting mechanic will tire out players. Miyamoto says he does get a bit tired playing it at the office. But he plays it a LOT, apparently. Aonuma says that the pace will vary enough, with puzzle solving and exploring and whatnot, that it shouldn't be a problem. But the demo on the show floor made it look like its constant combat.

That is one wall of text worth reading and the Nintendo E3 site is awesome.

What about the save mechanics? Without a start menu or pause HUD, I wonder how they plan to "seamlessly integrate" that..

MEHdit: Nevermind. Just because there are no item select menus doesn't mean no start menu. I doubt the save mechanics will change much.

Completely disagree.  TP had no color anywhere and it tried way too hard to look "realistic" which is stupid when you're fighting blob monsters and purple goblin things.  This game is pretty much Wii TP (now compatible with color TVs).

I absolutely HATED TP's graphics. Very low-res and shimmery, everything bled together. Skyward Sword has a kind of painting look to it which looks OK. The develpoer's themselves said in the interview "the graphics is the current thing we are working on", so I'm assuming the visuals are still in development.

that's weird. so close to USA and you get a massive delay like that. i'm much further down the americas and i get games here day 1 with USA nowadays (it used to be days later before and weeks later before that. month delays were in the N64 days and it was 1 month usually)

If any of you remember the old demos for TP before it came out, the prototype demo version was a lot different from the final version. I don't know about the graphics. I have somewhat of a hope that they will be altered a bit before the game's release. Personaly, I loved TP's graphics, and predict that SS will be like the graphic altering form OoT/MM to WW. Probably the same level of disappointment-- I love WW graphics--. I like the wierd bug item that you shoot out to pickup bombs and stuff too.

I'm sure they made it so you cant drink while falling, and from the physics it looks like you can't dive with it or anything like that.

I know it's not out yet but I thought it would be a good idea to make a new topic about it. This game is sort of like a hybrid between the two Zelda games Wind Waker (and of course the other few games with the same graphics) and Twilight Princess, for those of you guys who didn't know. Honestly i realy don't like the graphics to much. Links hair is freakin shineing. It looks like he's made of plastic! I dont know about you but that's not right.
It looks too cartoonish as well. Spinning your sword around in the air to beat a bad guy thats an eye! This game better not get a T rating. And it also looks like the whole game is in agayforest. I should have seen Hyrule field and Hyrule Castle and Epona too. I also love the bad guys. They look like freakin homo-sexual fox's like you would find in a gay fairy tale. This game better be good to make up with the graphics like with Wind Waker. I'll give this game one chance though.

heres the video; http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-zelda-skyward/101468
There's a trailer for another game. Oh, and I like the "MAY CONTAIN CONTENT INAPPRORIATE FOR CHILDREN" thing in the begining of the trailer. Yeah right!

In this video, you can clearly see the guy grabs a bomb with the whip for a brief moment. So this may mean you can pull/hurl bombs around using the whip. Also, he walks forward while aiming the bow.

New Skyward Sword gameplay video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/nc-10-nintendo-wii/705395

Still demo footage, but you can see the lava boulder you roll on looks like... an eyeball? Also you can get a pretty good view of the ornate center-platform in the Fire Temple.

Here's a two-part, 20 minute playthrough of the SkyWard Sword E3 Demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOlmV1-a4fw&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Ed_X4flM0&feature=related

I've noticed:

1. You can leap up vines repeatedly, definitely faster than climbing normally.
2. You can wall jump! (see 1:15 and 4:51 in part 1).
3. You can slash really quickly, faster than any other 3D Zelda so far for sure (see 6:33 in part 2).

PS: This guy has a very compelling theory about the story of the game as well as the mystery girl on the poster:

New GDC trailer for Skyward Sword: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5HxKASXjeM&feature=feedu

Stuff I've noticed in it:
1. Main logo now has vines growing on it.
2. There's now a Hylian Shield icon at the top left as well as a meter right next to it.
3. Big Skulltula's (Twilight Princess style) have returned.
4. Peahats return (metallic looking with very small propellers).
5. New type of Beamos enemy shown (need to slice it's lower sections to shorten it, to presumably be able to attack it's eye).
6. The "master sword/great fairy girl is equipped to the D-pad (most likely a Navi/Midna-type button).
7. There's a new fat moblin with a large wood shield.
8. There's a Bamboo-chopping minigame.
9. New big rolling enemy (looks electric and metallic)
10. New enemy that's a monkey that breaths fire while hiding under a rock.
11. New 6-armed boss. Notice the strange dude that's sitting on top of it before fight starts (probably a main antogonist).
12. Lamp looking item is equipped in the 3rd scene.

Edit:
13: Harp

Reviving due to the fact that E3 will be this week. Also, this...

Quote
Greetings ZU Staff,

I wanted to let you in on some info on Nintendo’s press conference.  My classmate at a southern California university CSUF will be performing with his choir at E3.  Today is a rehearsal at the university.  Monday night is his dress rehearsal.  He has informed me that the music is for Skyward Sword.  That’s all I have.  Enjoy the choir and E3.

Best wishes,

Alex Jaich

At 4:40-4:45 in the vid he does a standard quick spin but then also does a veritcal quick spin. I noticed also that there is an 8 piece shaped pie magic meter (I'd assume it's a magic meter) that goes down when he does the quick spins, and it auto refills after time.

In one of the demo videos I heard the temple of time song playing in the background... Not sure if this actually means anything, but since the story is about the mastersword, it wouldn't surprise me if the temple of time had some roll in the game.

The temple of time song starts at about 3:56

That's because Link's shield changed as well. It's a rectangular shield with two bird-feet on it.

I find it odd how Ghirahim says he "will not murder you", which is both surprising and illogical. When synonyms for destroy are more often used. Murder is an illogical statement because Ghirahim is basically implying that he's not entitled to kill Link and that killing is wrong. They probably won't do it, but I hope "murder" gets changed to "kill" before the final release.

What may be more important other than the shield icon....

Is the positioning of the hearts right next to the shield icon. As is, they are too close to one another to allow for a second row of hearts to be shown like they would be traditionally shown.

The same could be said about the magic bar in OoT, MM and TWW, but that was obviously not the case.

After watching more videos of this, I'm feeling much more positive about this game than before.  Maybe it wont suck after all.

Some bad news for anyone (everyone) that hated tears of light in TP http://e3.nintendo.com/videos/#/all/roundtable1 .  Look at 2:07, it looks like the exact same thing from TP, right down to the number if tears and how the ones you've collected are displayed on screen.

Also, I read a youtube comment stating that the shield meter stands for the durability of the shield. If you rely on it too much and take too many hits, it breaks.

North America release date

20th November 2011

feels odd that most if not all of the must have games this year were out in Europe first.

Pokey, quiet. We Europeans have had most of the games released almost a month after USA before and we also got them in slow motion. The fact that we get the games a few days earlier than USA now, doesn't compensate all the old shit at all. 8)

...because you start with 6 hearts.

you start with 6 hearts.

http://www.swingingpuss.com/upload/2008/07/Cookie_Monster.jpg

Hopefully that's not a sign that there won't be many dungeons (hence few Heart Containers, so they had to give you 6 to let you get to 20).

if heart pieces are like TP, that would give us 30 heart pieces if there's 8 dungeons with a boss.

I smell some item glitches when I see the trailers.

Also I hope that stamina thing won't kill speedruns, maybe there is a way to overcome it. Best would be negative stamina to get faster.  ;D

As far as stamina goes it looks like a very good thing. Check out TSA's playthrough of the dungeon and he dashes and jumps around really fast all the time because of it. looks pretty fun. I can only hope the controls are good

i'm getting the hang of it. stamina management is going to be critical, especially to not fail a long vine climb after running.

the controls definitely require some time to get used to. they seem confusing at first but they start flowing once you know what each button does and how (to switch to an item, you need to tap B and then use it with A. this is probably the one that will take more to get used to since in all of the past 3D Zeldas you tap or hold the button where the item is assigned to use it)

the one thing i don't like is the pointer. this one uses the motion+ accelerometers instead of the sensor bar and it gets all weird to aim.

i got 5:53 after a few tries in 40 minutes. the damn motion+ ended like half of my attempts and the rest were due to dumb stuff.
one handy thing is that you can prepare stuff like the bug while running so you can save a bit of time that way.
