Title: Treacherous Tower Speedruns
Post by: Tryst on November 22, 2014, 01:06:30 AM
I'm coming after you, Yoshistar95!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESgUm0cVBqo

2F is annoying. 10F is a pain in the ass. 11F is an even bigger pain in the ass if 10F was perfect. Other than that I've done a bit of timing with different strats for each room and can happily say that it's possible to shave at least 3 seconds off my run. Which means 0:42 is theoretically possible.

That said, all you (Yoshistar95) have as proof for your 0:44 is a picture and my route is something I've come up with by myself, so with our strategies combined even faster may be possible still!

I was also playing around with the Beginner level earlier and on several occasions got 0:07 after messing up. I get the feeling 0:06 is possible with absolutely perfect movement. After all, it's possible to get 0:08 without using the Pegasus Boots at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNrnbnW2lCY.

Update: I've now equalled Yoshistar95's 0:44 WR on the Intermediate stage. This route is different to my 0:45 in that I used a bottle on 10F and then used fruit to stun the mobs in 15F, allowing me to finish them off with a spin attack. My 0:45 route is definitely the faster one as mentioned above. My 0:44 is probably maxed at 0:44. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz0R7E3ZiSg

I've made a multi-YouTube thing to show both my 0:44 and 0:45 runs together. My 0:45 appears to be about a second ahead by 9F, so it may be possible to shave time off the 0:44 after all: http://www.SwigView.com/y2FLjJ6.

Nice going! But I honestly think 44 is max (because I hit 44 only twice, second looked nearly perfect).... a TAS would be nice to prove my theory wrong (oh and 6 seconds theory too at Beginner)

I've actually hit 44 4 times now using a bottle on 10F and fruit at the end. It's a bit of a lame way of avoiding using a spin on 10F, but it works. I don't think it's faster to do it though. If you compare it with my 0:45 (http://www.swigview.com/y2FLjJ6), which uses a spin on 10F and bottle at the end, you'll see that I'm about a second ahead on my 0:45 before I even get to 4F. I completely messed up the start of my uploaded 0:44.

I've also just done a 4:19 on the Advanced tower with quite a few mistakes. It wouldn't surprise me if this level can be taken down to 3:40 - if not further.

Also check this out: I got knocked off the edge of the map in 50F before recording my 4:19 run but managed to finish the boss off by using a bottle whilst falling. :D  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I3VeBWwz3Q

I'm not sure if it's faster to not use the Net on 5F, but I've just done another 0:44 with a spin attack in that room instead. That gives me full health and the ability to shoot that beam from my sword throughout the entire tower stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2VzTPtx8M.

This is now the 9th 0:44 I've done. Almost all of which have incredibly minor mistakes, but mistakes nonetheless. The fact that I'm using Purple Potion on 10F makes the 0:44 really consistent. The only real nuisance now is managing to hit both of the green guys on 14F with one sword swing - as missing that almost guarantees 0:45.

43 seconds! Lucky Spin paid off again! :D

I've added Dash in 6F (added it after second 44), 11F with your method (make a comparison with both our methods) and just sword at 14F. 42 is possible, I slashed 3 times while 2 is enough at 14F. Also, I had 44 without Lucky Spin, insane :o (missed one mummie, well.... it survived, lol (so 2 hits killed him, instead of 5)

Also, I think dashing is bad if you're about 2 Links from the door, not sure when you lose time compared to running, but I now don't dash in a few floors anymore.

Yes, a nice email this afternoon told me that you'd got 0:43. :-(
The proof wouldn't load for me though. I'm looking forward to seeing it though!

Out of curiosity are you using my 15F strat? I think it may save time to use the bottle you save from 10F on 12F, as on 15F you don't have to worry about exiting the room.

I use purple on 15F, it can be done quicker than I first thought, a second delay is enough. 12F is Big Spin + Fire Rod, it's RNG based strat, but it works for me.

Again 44 without Lucky Spin, 42 is 100% for sure possible :) (41 true max?)

Edit:

Again 43! I made an ending result video, so yay!
11F was bad due to missing the one upper right, if I hit him with my sword, then 42 MIGHT have happened :o

Edit 2:

42 seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awq5lheWa2s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awq5lheWa2s)
Still same strat, ending is done much quicker than it used to be :) (you just need to get the timing, too soon is bad, too late doesn't matter much)

I've gotten 0:42 and 3:55 respectively. Both were pretty trivial and if someone wanted to grind seriously you could get 0:41 and at least 3:45, if not 3:40.

Great to see more activity on this. Good job on the 0:42 both of you!

Unfortunately I've been away from my PC so haven't been able to record anything - my laptop isn't powerful enough, sadly.
