Title: Low% Route
Post by: RheaultWnage on April 16, 2014, 07:08:01 AM
I thought it might be fun to try and route the low% run, so I gave it a shot. Here is what I skipped getting: http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/albw/info/skippable-items . It should be noted that low% is impossible on hero mode, because you don't have enough health to take the required amount of damage to skip certain items.

Well you couldn't do Dark Maze Skip (go through the Maze instead, doesn't require any extra item), but I think that's the only different thing? You might want to do Sanctuary before Power Gloves Skip, so you have a Sword to kill the Mini Moldorms and actually have a decent chance at getting out of the cave.

Aside frome that... I can't think of anything?

EDIT: Like Anwonu said in IRC, you can actually do the Dark Maze Skip by getting damaged by a bomb instead of the Snap Dragon.

I'm guessing hero low% problem would be desert skip?

Which, if you did it normally, it would. You either need to do Ice Rod strats, or use the bomb boost from the bridge instead.

I finished a Low% run a few moments ago. Some thoughts on it.

- Road skip is kind of tricky, but once you know how to set it up you'll get it eventually. You can save in front of the castle too so soft resetting isn't too bad. Way better than Early Flippers.
- Accidentaly triggering Irene's cutscene and having to soft reset is annoying.
- Moving around the overworld without boots/bell is slow as hell and quickly becomes a chore. (Almost) Only being able to save at your house is tedious. Having to climb up to Ice Ruins twice almost made me cry. ; . ;
- The Bow is actually a pretty nice item to have.
- Deathwarping away from Ice Ruins is the best strat.
- Desert Palace segment is the absolute worst. 3 hearts DPS after pulling off the first bomb boost to reach the area is scary as hell. Sword beams Zaganaga fight takes forever and is even more scarrierester.
- Yuganon fight is too hard for me.

Overall it wasn't really that fun, but I'm happy to have done it nonetheless. (Mostly happy that it's over. :P)

Also, once you've obtained the Master Sword, the only way to rent new items without triggering Quick Equip is to deathwarp to your house. Thank god that works because I didn't have the Ice and Fire Rods by that point. :x
