Title: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: CloudMax on February 22, 2012, 12:14:03 PM
OoT3D NewGame+ [Farore's Wind/Value 13] Ganonless
-15 rupees
-Purchase nuts
-WWT forest escape
-Zelda
-Goron City
-3 deku sticks (2 in Darunia's room, 1 at stairs)
-Saria's Song
-Bracelet
-3 deku sticks (2 in Darunia's room, 1 at stairs)
-Bombs
-Magic
-DMT -> GC warp point
-Defeat Dodongo
-Wrong Warp

Glitches/Tricks used:
-NG+ (http://zeldaspeedruns.com/oot3d/ng+/creating-a-ng-file) [Farore's Wind/Value 13]
-Walking While Talking Forest Escape (http://zeldaspeedruns.com/oot3d/majorsb/forest-escape#method-2-walking-while-talking)
-Enter the Castle Courtyard with just 1 box. To do this, push the first box as close to the edge as possible without making it fall, then jump straight toward the waterfall at the crawlspace, Link'll either barely make it up, or make an additional jump on the waterfall to make it.
-Broken Deku Stick for the lizalfos rooms. To get it, just walk up against the enemy and jumpslash it.
-Get Past Flame Circles without Slingshot (http://zeldaspeedruns.com/oot3d/Dungeon%20Strats/dodongos-cavern)
-Wrong Warp [DMT->GC|DC]
-Bombslide/forward slide.

How do you get from Zelda - Goron City - Saria in good time?

I did WWT Escape - Red Rupee from the Gate - Zelda - Buy Deku Sticks - Saria

Seems as though it's shorter to not go to Goron City an extra time

EDIT: Duh

Passing through Goron City allows you to open up the path to Lost Woods, get saria's song, and return to Goron city directly after that.
Going to Saria before Goron City would mean running all the way to Kokiri Forest, then saria, then back to kokiri forest, and all the way to goron city.
And buying sticks at shop is slower than picking them up, at least with my route.

Tom, you can use a deku stick and the flame from Darunia's room to light the bombs for the Goron City - Lost Woods shortcut

My current record is 34:54 for MQ, and nothing really went wrong, so I suspect using this route the time will max out around 34:00 but I'm not sure. there are probably small time savers I'm missing

good luck. i am thouroughly convinced that slingshot skip is the hardest trick in this version of the game.
Also it is worth noting for people who dont realize, dying during this run means reset, because you lose your FW.

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route

43:11.1

There is no practicing for the slingshot skip, it almost can be called Bomb Luck. I wasted about 3 minutes on the second fire circle set. Otherwise, under 40 is definitely possible. There was also an instance where I was going from Zelda back to Kokiri by accident and realized half way there.

Getting ready to video record in the next few days, after some practice. This route is certainly finalized.

No practicing? Luck? If that's your opinion on slingshot skip, this should help you a lot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMtyo4vBp7g&list=UU3tiqNxITl1l-Nu_FALZX5w&index=1&feature=plcp

Aleckermit requested it so I gave it a go. Hopefully it'll be helpful for the two of you, and others that may want to improve the slingshot skip consistency.

So, if under 40 is possible, shouldn't MQ be like 3 minutes faster at least? Or does the rooms you actually have to do make up for the skip?
This is assuming that you do a perfect run in MQ and Normal, the difficulty should not be a factor in this. So you can't say that MQ saves more time simply because Slingshot skip is easier in it or something.

And yes, this route is pretty much final. What we need now is a way to access explosives faster, or magic without explosives (I don't think this'll happen). Explosives early is pretty much our only chance at improving the time. Some kind of groundjump and such would also be extremely helpful. what we need is to find more glitches, the route itself is good as it is right now.

I personally think that the most annoying part of the run is the damn keese, seriously. Sometimes they turn into life sucking monsters, and sometimes they just avoid you, especially in the circular room where you have to hit the switch in the center...

Post by: Nook on February 23, 2012, 03:00:41 PM
The keese actually put in the death factor, I think we need to put some more deku sticks in the run for them =D

We should all now make a push to find early Chus in BoTW or more glitches.

Did a NG+ run today, the keese were not an issue. You can always get a fairy from the pot after the little maze room before the block push.

How was your time?

The bridge from the switch room to the room with the bomb chest has 2 almost inevitable Fire Keese, but I was kind of joking about them adding the death factor. How was your time?

Terrible, I was learning as I went and accidentally dispelled FW while trying to inch into the warp. Also got caught by guards twice (once in the yard somehow near the vine wall) 56:08. Low 30 is probably doable.

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Nook on February 23, 2012, 08:22:20 PM
High 30 more likely, I still only make the fire circles at about 30 minute mark every time. Master Quest is now estimated low 30 though.

Also, Master Quest has to be harder. Just imagine, Keese taking 1 heart from you each hit. That is when they are life sucking monsters

I'm pretty confused with the MQ NG+ route.
Do we have to Navi dive to zora's domain or to zora's river from lost woods?
Because I'm not sure it is possible without kokiri sword which we obviously won't be getting.

I had two recorded attempts today, one ended at sacred meadow because a scrub killed me (first time it happens to me) and I stoped the other halfway because there were too many mistakes (guards, owl, fire circles, and lack of a deku stick).

I have tried to come up with different MQ routes using the jabu chus, but none of them seem to be that fast to be honest.

This is the latest one I've written:
Kokiri Sword (Don't Equip)
Deku Shield & Deku Nuts
WWT Forest Escape
Zelda
Cucco Bottle
Magic
Lost Woods (Savewarp or go through GC if you have navi up)
Equip Sword & Shield
Navi Dive to River
Fish
TSC past KZ
Jabu Chus
Farore's Wind
Savewarp
Warp Point (Use restricted items)
Savewarp
Set the warp point to whatever place is the fastest to reach that takes you to credits. (Does Lost Woods -> Goron City take you to credits? Should test that)
Deku Tree
Warp to Credits (Use restricted items)

I have a feeling that this route isn't that fast... Mostly because we have to get a damn bottle just to get into jabu jabu.

Yes but this still isn't MQ NG+.

Other small time savers for this route include throwing the first deku stick pot and then picking up the second pot and jumping on the deku stick (this causes link to drop the pot to hold the deku stick above his head, putting both in your inventory simultaneously), and using deku nuts on the wolfos/scrubs in the meadow.

Also, there exists a way to skip the DC boulder as child on other consoles, but it involves hovering. If there were a decent method to do this or some other way to skip the boulder on 3ds, the run would be something like 8-10 minutes shorter. I've been experimenting with megaflipping off of tektites to try to clip through it and it seems like I'm making headway but it's hard to tell if it's possible. Obviously if it were the route would have to change to include shield.

tom nook is the shop keeper from animal crossing.  back on topic,  i was doing a mq ng+ route and got killed in the SFM.  I was wondering, how much faster is mq from reg because i havent gotten a run past the sfm because i keep getting killed by the scrub, but dont want to waste time buying a shield, but if the time differances are enough than im ok with it.

Cloudzack, you have 4 deku nuts, use them!

I think using the DC route in MQ is something like 10 minutes faster than non-MQ, at least comparing my time (34:54) to greenalink's. And as far as MQ without NG+, good luck doing wrong warp with restricted items.

Is there a place where times are being compared? I'd like to know how my time is, and how much I should improve

Thank you, I actually got 41:06 that I posted earlier on the thread

If our runs are as tight as we both say, Master Quest is roughly 5 minutes faster

Dafuq?
Why hovering over DC boulder? If you do it to skip goron bracelet then you won't be able to open DC first wall. If you do have bracelet, then why hovering over the boulder?

MQ NG+ seems impossible with farore's wind.

Wow, I'm a complete idiot Majora MIM. Thanks for bringing me to the light.

Cloud, is that route you posted for MQ NG+? If not how do you get magic before explosives? Are you starting with hammer or something?

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Majora MIM on February 24, 2012, 03:43:42 PM
Hammer can't destroy wall for magic.
Starting MQ ng+ with hammer would let us get to jjb early but slower than with just kokiri sword.

Unless we can navi dive without kokiri sword/triple slash, starting MQ with farore's wind on B is pointless.

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: CloudMax on February 24, 2012, 05:02:11 PM
That route was for megaton hammer NG+, and it got magic early with megaton hammer then after that you equip kokiri sword and use it in the rest of the run. So megaton hammer were just for early magic so that you skip 1 trip to jabu jabu (you'd have to go to jabu jabu, then dmt, then jabu jabu to get FW otherwise)

Quote
- Magic
- Farore's Wind alllll the way in Zora's Fountain (use the early Chus to open the wall)
- Saria
- DMT -> GC warp point
- Bracelet
- Bombs and beat King Dodongo/Wrong Warp

How would that be faster than just doing deku tree directly after getting Farore's wind?
That is what I do in the route I posted earlier.

And why on earth would we want to visit Saria, lol? The reason why we get early chus is to skip saria -_-'

So Master Quest runners, has anybody tried to Megaflip/Damage Boost to the Bomb Bag with the early Chus? It would save the slingshot skip and collecting Deku Sticks a second time

I still think deku tree would be faster with early chus, I honestly do not see how it would be faster to go through Dodongo.
Deku tree should be faster with the megaton hammer route (which should be the fastest route for early chus).

But using restricted items in the bluewarp is what prevents me from doing a MQ test run. I do not even want to bother with it. First you have a 1 frame window to pause, then after that you have a 1 frame window to press Farore's wind.
2 frame perfect inputs in a row, at the end of a run? Hell no.

I would participate but I've only been practicing MQ, maybe I'll figure out the trick.

I got most of the way through a run with cloudmax's MQ route, but I really don't think it's faster than DC route. Also, having to do restricted items wrong warp is pretty crippling to the route. If there was a good set up for jumping into the warp it's possible that you could pause buffer ("home" buffer) a restricted items use on the last frame but outside of that I don't see that trick happening in a good run consistently.

You should record at night when people are sleeping, so you don't have to have any noise pollution and it's not weird for you to be sitting in a dark room by yourself. You could also include information such as value charts and links. It was informative though, and I enjoyed it =)

Got a 42:18, def made a minute or more of mistakes. One of those sloppy days. I don't think I can do sub-40 with my current route/strats, maybe 40:40ish if done perfect.

I'll get a 40-41 and upload it so that we can work off of it.

I plan to do pretty much the same thing, but a more in depth one.
I'll explain the concept of different methods to get Deku Stick on B, why you get deku stick on B, the different methods of turning it into a bottle, then I'll explain BA in depth and ofc explain how to get Farore's Wind on B, then the different methods of starting NG+.
And after that I'll cut in an actual run I've done and explain everything I do along the way.
It'll all be one single video for it all though.
I hope to do all this next weekend, IF I can get my camera to record an entire run.
(last time I tried, it automatically stopped at 25 minutes. and in webcam mode the camera desync with the sound, and I have no way of changing the codec while recording, and almost none of the programs I've tired supports the colorscape it uses.)

I want to do more videos like these, I were going to make one for the different gauntlets and such, but never got around to it. The main reason for this is because it really is completely useless, it is just some visual thing.

I was going to do the same thing cloudmax  :). I'm considering doing MQ, but now that I can consistently do the skipping slingshot rooms I'm not sure. Just a little walkthrough for the run for someone who wants to show off to their friends or something, since none of the glitches are very difficult.

poodle, check out the vid that cloudmax posted about the sling skip.  i tried for 4 hours and didnt get it once, and after watching his vid i got it at about 95% consistency within 30 minutes.  Also, what is the best method for recording 3ds's?  i have tried using my laptop's webcam, and angled camera's but none of these methods have worked for me.

Do you time from reset, file start, or when gaining control of link?
I time it from file start, but I include the intro in my videos.

Wow lots of people making videos haha. The only reason i wouldn't put it all in one part is because i dont have my youtube approved for longer videos, and if I did make a longer video like that i would definately get a better setup and avoid noise pollution more carefully.

Time from file start, I say. That is how OOT console has always been and just makes more sense than control of link especially because there are text boxes that depending how good you are at scrolling through can alter your time.
Seriously, your text scrolling skills have a pretty big effect on your time in this run.
End timing when you hit a on farore's wind, or "last meaningful input"

Can't wait till we have those leaderboards up!

Final hit on ganon is obviouslt not a requirement. I think everybody has agreed that "Last meaningful input" is when timing ends. Timing should start when opening the file,  because there are text boxes that can affect your time, you have control over those.
Please generalight if you dont know that we skip ganon, and adult link completely, then you probably dont know the game and the people who run it can decide.

speaking of wrong warps and stuff, is it possible to deathwarp with a portal in this version? i noticed the deathwarp method uses OI and that doesn't work in 3DS but, since this is OoT, there's usually an alternative to most glitches.

Yupp, I did some testing, the alternative is to have Ocarina on B, since it'll function just like OI.
However, since the deathwarps are so damn precise (from what I've seen. I mean, they need all these buffered setups and shit), I haven't been able to pull one off properly.

MIM provided some great optimizing tips:

- 1st Blue Rupee from the other side of the house
- Immediately press X/Y to equip things on the item screen
- Superslide off the Tektite to GC
- Don't relight stick (a hard thing to do)
- Backwalk up the final straight path to Saria, save a few Deku Nuts
- Jump to the Bomb Bag
- Superslide up to the Great Fairy
- Use saved Deku Nuts on the Keese in the last 2 rooms before KD (REALLY good tip!)

Any others that people can think of? I'm going to try and find more myself for a while

Just posted this in R&D.

You can backflip off the DMT cliff after throwing the bomb flower before the cutscene starts. Shaves off maybe one second.

Great time, Tom! Maybe I'll try an any% after I time 100% Child 1.

It is really easy to not relight the deku stick since in OOT3D the stick stamina refill when you light a torch.

To backwalk to Saria simply start holding L close to the wall with the ladder.

The jump to bombag trick consists just in using the exceeding part of the edge below the chest to jump and grab instead of grabing normaly.

Yeah but its still something. Also two things. Is there a consistent way to jump to that crawl hole using one milk box I miss it almost everytime wasting few secs. Also that backflip at the first baby dodongo room.

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Nook on May 11, 2012, 01:41:24 PM
I was talking about the one next to the Goron, you can't get passed there. Wouldn't save very much regardless

There's a consistent way for the crate. Look directly at the hole and jump, and try not to let go of the Control stick. You should also give yourself some distance on the crate itself for a running start.

For that backflip, it's just memorization. For a few parts in the run, I try memorizing objects (scenery, torches) or patterns on the floor/wall so that when it comes into my view as I backwalk, it can show me when to either turn around or backflip

You can get past that torch... But lets just forget it. Does it save time to use the peahat to hess to the market. (probably not because of the weird egg wait). Do you have any tips about recording. (sorry about all these questions)

I usually get past that torch. You just have to sidehop. It may save 0.1 second.

No that doesnt save time because of the egg, like you said. A good way to record is to cut off the side of a card board box, and cut off a hole on the the top. Play the 3ds in the box and have the camera shoot through the hole. Keep lights around you and sound minimal. Soon there may be a 3DS capture device but it will probably be pricey...

Post by: Nook on May 12, 2012, 01:31:32 AM
It'd be cool if there were more places to superslide, like using the peahat or something! (places useful I mean)

One huge tip about recording is to make sure you're in a comfortable position. I sit cross legged and have a camera over the side of a desk or chair looking down at the 3DS in my lap.

So PedalPower, how have your runs been?

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Pedalpowertoast on May 12, 2012, 09:29:10 AM
Thanks about the answers :)
The runs are going pretty well except i keep fucking up the escape, box jump, dc fire skip and i die almost everytime while climbing the mountain to great fairy. I have been practising hess turning and other stuff.
Now i need something to record that stuff. Im aiming for sub 38:XX. (I make it sound like i suck at this game and i dont know anything about recording but thats not true...maybe)
About hessing i dont know if others do it like this but i found a pretty easy way to do it. Most of the time Link slides to the wrong direction in a weird way but throwing the bomb and going next to it holding hess position helps a lot.   After the magic using that shit that falls down you can hess saving time. Bit hard to explain.
And that torch... Would it help if ill just make a video about it???

E:hey tom are you using ntsc? I noticed one very very small thing at the beginning deku trees line "come hither" is at the same row but in pal its lower... wierd

To one cycle a lizalfos you need to do 2 damage followed by 4 damage. But since deku stick power is nerfed in this version i dont think you can do 4 damage.

Figured out why the graphics were slightly glitching I'm pretty sure (happened again). 3DS was just overheating, sitting in my lap it was hot in my class and in it's shell case, when I pulled out the stylus it was scalding hot. It was hot last time too.

Edit: Good job Norkix

Actually timed one. 39:26. Bleh. Run was much worse than what I've been doing, somehow lost time on the Forest Escape, took 2 tries on the first superslide to Magic, and was hunting for a Deku Stick in Darunia's room that I already had (??). Got 1 thing out of it though; sidehop everywhere.

Going to do 6 hours of WR attempts on video tomorrow, then if I don't get it I'll be fine with my current record (until somebody beats it)

Lol, that's about as long as I used to spend practicing Hammer 100% Child on Saturdays. Good luck, Tom!

Haven't been able to improve since that. I keep missing the bluewarp. Can you explain your little sidehop trick?

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Nook on June 15, 2012, 02:01:22 AM
Its CloudMax's trick. You'll want to stand near the bluewarp, gauge your distance from it, and sidehop away from it. Then move toward the bluewarp from the side the same distance you were away from it before you sidehopped. Then just sidehop again into the bluewarp, mashing b the whole time. You'll start getting it really fast, probably on your 1st try each time after some practice.

Also, I have some questions for how I can optimize this route... I just got a 40:47 and I know I can do better but it was pretty damn good for me. First, where do you do your superslides? Also, how can I avoid navi text in DC? After I step on the button that opens the door on the other side, since I skipped the text before by backwalking to the ladder, it now appears right as I'm about to jump onto moving platforms, making me have to back up and waste like 5 seconds.

Title: Re: OoT3D NewGame+ [FW/13] Ganonless Route
Post by: Pedalpowertoast on June 15, 2012, 06:47:41 PM
First hess:from DMT->Goron city using a tektite. Note: Practise this one well because it can waste a lot of time if fucked.
Second hess (optional) from DC entrance after bombs to the three rocks that have to be bombed.
Third and fourth hess Note 2:these hesses are pretty random and happen pretty late in the run so consider backwalking if you are doing good.
After 3 rocks hess to the climbable wall near great fairy and vice versa. Remember to jump to GC. Note 3: hess 4 can be done with the falling rocks, they deal 1 heart of damage so use at own risk.

As for that navi text not sure but it might be possible to avoid if you go to the very right edge of the rising platform. If that doesnt work jump to the platform and read it. If the text box appears before jump go a bit more right. Text box uses about 1-2 secs.

Perfect run and I thought records were gonna be broken, I was on some yolo strat luck doing the Hellfire skip and both battles with quarter of a heart. As I was jumping from the beamos platform to the entrance, he did a hop rather than jumping, now I'm so sad  :'( . Other than my misfortune I was wondering, how some people become consistant with the jump to castle courtyard(im awful at it) and how people do consistant superslides because I can never get an angle to slide up to the fairy fountain.

Just letting you know, the superslide to the fairy fountain only saves 1 or 2 seconds only if done perfectly. The supervise to Gorin City, however, saves about 10 seconds. The castle courtyard jump is slightly more consistent if you don't roll.

So, just out of curiousity, what are some people's best splits for escape/fairy ocarina? Mine are, 4:19 for escape and 4:51 for the fairy ocarina. (Though it was kind of bad, and could save a few seconds on the trick itself/movement.

I dont have any for sure, but my best escape times are usually around that, and when doing a run i will keep anything below 4:30. I dont split at fairy ocarina because thats really no different than escape

Funny enough I found a video of me speedrunning when my power went out. To see how dedicated I was back then makes me want to pick the game back up. Guess I be posting more now ;).

All of the categories on the leaderboards are for the original game, Master Quest runs are not allowed. If you have Master Quest times you would like to share I encourage you to come tell us about them in #oot3d

Wish I had known that before, when I asked they told me it was just alternate routing. I did a Ganon run that is on there currently which is a Master Quest run.

Edit: Oh, nevermind, they removed that one too now...nice.

How does verification work? Doesn't someone watch it? Shouldn't it have been noticed when I first posted my first video that it was Master Quest, so I could have been informed about this like months ago?
